2018-08-16 14:58:09 UTC

We got anyone in here who knows anything about blacksmithing or horses?

2018-08-16 15:17:22 UTC

I think @hedlikahol might

2018-08-16 15:17:26 UTC

I know a bit about horses

2018-08-16 15:18:30 UTC

I think @Felden - CO and @nils might know a bit about smithing as well

2018-08-16 15:25:05 UTC

Iโ€™m a machinist. Never done smith type work.

2018-08-16 15:45:31 UTC

I'm learning blacksmithing and I'm getting pretty good, but I'd like someone to bounce ideas and troubleshoot with

2018-08-16 19:04:37 UTC

Specifically, I'm learning Farriery

2018-08-16 21:46:26 UTC

Same as Felden - Machining, not a smith.

2018-08-16 21:53:21 UTC

Once I get a better, perhaps I could take up as the Practical Skills server's resident blacksmith?

2018-08-16 21:55:26 UTC

How much experience does one need in order to do that?

2018-08-16 21:55:26 UTC

Get good first๐Ÿ˜‚

2018-08-16 21:55:35 UTC

๐Ÿค” trust me I'm trying

2018-08-16 21:55:58 UTC

Haha just learn the trade, we'll accept you as a pro bro

2018-08-16 21:56:25 UTC

๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป am I a pro yet?

2018-08-16 21:57:23 UTC

Give it a few months๐Ÿ˜‚

2018-08-16 21:58:31 UTC

@RevStench what about now?

2018-08-16 21:58:33 UTC

Lol

2018-08-16 21:59:41 UTC

Maybe by Saturday haha

2018-08-16 22:00:07 UTC

LOL

2018-08-17 00:52:05 UTC

So we're going to see you on Forged in Fire when? @Daniel Turch

2018-08-17 02:15:04 UTC

I give it 3 weeks

2018-08-17 02:25:57 UTC

@Daniel Turch Our good friend @Helbrecht - WA may be able to assist with blacksmith questions.

2018-08-23 01:10:53 UTC

What are some good ideas for a small business that some of you may have?

2018-08-24 06:55:13 UTC

Hereโ€™s a small business I just made and have already made a small profit on https://havamalheathens.com

2018-08-24 06:57:13 UTC

Itโ€™s pretty hands off, but the same model could be done for other products and probably make even more money than what Iโ€™ve been making with the one above. All my sales have come from free Instagram traffic too so I havenโ€™t invested much of anything.

2018-08-24 07:02:20 UTC

So do you make any of the products or by from others and sell it?

2018-08-24 07:05:39 UTC

Most the accessories I get from suppliers and sell, and most of the clothing are my own designs and then they are printed, quality tested, and shipped at the point of purchase, so there is no upfront cost on my end. It just depends which product it is. Some accessory items are using the same print method as the shirts.

2018-08-24 18:10:01 UTC

That's my problem,i love to create but am bad about getting it set up on the business scale.

2018-08-24 18:10:23 UTC

@Envianinteresting ok thanks.

2018-08-25 01:20:12 UTC

Small business idea: go to a franchise expo and watch a wide variety of franchisors pitch their small businesses. Consider market demand (they present their research on this), investment level, and cultural fit. Hereโ€™s one coming up: https://www.franchiseexpomidwest.com/

2018-08-25 21:15:52 UTC

Going to pick up some chisels some time. Anyone have a preferred brand of tools?

2018-08-25 23:57:25 UTC

Dewalt, but Iโ€™m not sure about chisels

2018-08-29 22:16:02 UTC

Does anyone besides me use a oldtimey straight razor to shave I can give some pointers on how to use it and all around how maintain it and plus keep it razor sharp plus you can use the methodology for your knife hoby's

2018-08-29 22:17:23 UTC

True Traditional Shave

2018-08-29 22:17:27 UTC

Iโ€™ve always wanted to get one and use it. Normal shaving razors always give me bad irritation

2018-08-29 22:18:12 UTC

A good old fashion Razor is the best shave you will ever get

2018-08-29 22:18:28 UTC

How difficult is it to use? Is there a real danger of accidentally slashing your jugular?

2018-08-29 22:19:54 UTC

Its easy but you need a steady hand and it has to be sharp like a minimal .10 micron edge

2018-08-29 22:21:11 UTC

but with a Sub .10 and finer edge it will glide over your face like your not even shaving

2018-08-29 22:22:49 UTC

It also gives you the knowledge of how to make any steel edge sharp like a razor ๐Ÿ˜Ž

2018-08-29 22:23:09 UTC

Whereโ€™d you get yours?

2018-08-29 22:24:41 UTC

Art of the Shave but their prices are the most expensive but their razors are the best .........I think west coast shaving has better deals but shop around

2018-08-29 22:28:21 UTC

any Razor you buy must be made out of High carbon Steel or S30v stainless steel or any metal above that but those blades are rare and expensive

2018-08-29 22:32:06 UTC

If you maintain your Striaght Razor it will last a Lifetime

2018-08-29 22:32:25 UTC

What do you do and use to maintain it?

2018-08-29 22:35:13 UTC

Lapping compound, a good metal treatment oil and a 3" by 10" piece of glass with construction paper backing

2018-08-29 22:37:33 UTC

Iโ€™m going to look into this more and do some research, thanks @V.Balboa - PA!

2018-08-29 22:38:40 UTC

no problem once you go Old school you will never use a Mach3/shick Virgin shaver again

2018-08-29 22:40:16 UTC

If you have any more questions just shoot me a DM

2018-08-29 22:49:40 UTC

I keep my beard at a 3 or 4 with a trimmer. I never do a proper clean shave, but I can get away with it as a tradesmen.

2018-08-29 22:54:26 UTC

I used to use a electric trimmer but now im a Ultra-clean shave kind of guy

2018-08-30 03:49:45 UTC

There's an art of shaving close to me, how much are the strait razors?

2018-08-30 03:50:07 UTC

Always wanted to learn how do the trad shave

2018-08-30 03:50:35 UTC

TBH get a safety razor, a Merkur, and buy blades, I recommend Feather, or if you want to go cheap, Sword I think

2018-08-30 03:51:19 UTC

Straight are nice for cutting cool designs in your face and going to work covered in toilet paper balls, but not ideal.

2018-08-30 03:51:24 UTC

haha

2018-08-30 03:51:44 UTC

Yeah I have a safety razor now, is there that much of a difference?

2018-08-30 03:52:27 UTC

You can get a closer shave with a straight, but when it comes to time and maintenance...no thanks

2018-08-30 03:53:57 UTC

I think I have this one

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/322711183503130635/484571455183388692/blade.jpg

2018-08-30 03:54:46 UTC

You can't fly with it, because fat non-whites at TSA don't read their own Director's message about blades shorter than 2 inches and they claim they have "discretion"

2018-08-30 03:55:12 UTC

I dumped a box in the garbage because they're idiots.

2018-08-30 03:55:22 UTC

same with my Tom's of Maine

2018-08-30 03:56:00 UTC

You can fly with it and just not have a blade on it right? Or has the tsa ascended autism at this point?

2018-08-30 03:56:14 UTC

correct

2018-08-30 03:56:21 UTC

but good luck finding blades when you land...

2018-08-30 04:02:12 UTC

You can check it, but I NEVER check bags at airports...I don't trust the throwers.

2018-08-30 04:03:58 UTC

I have a friend who works as a "ramp rat" at an airport, he and his wife both do it for the flights, and the pay is good. They educate their kids with the trips. He told me...."Never check bags ever" most of his coworkers are black, and union.

2018-08-30 14:51:20 UTC

I was giving people straight razor shaves for over a year, then thought why not use one myself? It is a lot harder to shave yourself then someone else. Just have to start slow, one stroke at a time. I cut myself up good lol. Prol because I thought I could just do it. But there is a learning curve.

2018-08-30 14:55:27 UTC

@V.Balboa - PA Is there some kind of starter kit? I picked up a few old straight razors. Then ran into what grains to use before using the leather strap to maintain the edge. Or maybe id I buy a brand new one, I wont need those different grain stones?

2018-08-31 00:19:36 UTC

Leather strap ? .....Thats amateurs I fell for that crap when I first started but that is just for show not the professional way of doing things

2018-08-31 00:19:49 UTC
2018-08-31 00:23:58 UTC

@Attrition in the desert 160$ from The Art of the Shave New but shop around

2018-09-07 14:51:53 UTC

@here are there any leather workers here? I have an idea for a project

2018-09-08 00:13:33 UTC

Anyone^^^ @everyone

2018-09-08 00:27:35 UTC

Along the lines of traditional wet shaving... I highly recommend getting an open-comb safety razor if u have very thick, wiry stubble like I do... the mode I use is the muhle r41 I believe

2018-09-10 02:44:45 UTC

Back in high school I REALLY wanted to learn how to shave with a straight razor, very classy and very manly I thought. Too bad I barely had any facial hair back then lol. I used disposable razors for a couple years, then bought a couple really expensive electric razors that I still use. I kind of still want to get a straight razor and learn how to use it though, if I remember correctly there were some cheaper places to get them if you shop around. I did actually buy a mug, brush, and soap, I think I only used it once or twice though lol.

2018-09-10 02:45:26 UTC

I can't find an appropriate channel so I guess I'll ask here.
Does anybody know the proper way of filing a complaint with an auto manufacturer? I had an accident over the weekend and none of the airbags deployed.

2018-09-10 03:03:57 UTC

Lawyer up I'd say. What do you drive?

2018-09-10 03:30:47 UTC

@Anti Weeb Aktion what kind of vehicle was it

2018-09-10 03:34:07 UTC

It was a Nissan Skyline. I'd prefer to avoid relying on full legal action due to my employment and the issue of currently being out of the states.

2018-09-14 15:47:35 UTC

Tfw canโ€™t grow facial hair

2018-09-14 15:52:14 UTC

@Sherlock Don't worry. Neckbeards, numales and soyboys have mostly ruined beards. I actually look better with a beard but I shave now just to continue my way out of soyness.

2018-09-14 15:53:55 UTC

Can you get hair transplants for your face

2018-09-14 15:54:14 UTC

But yeah at least im not a neckbeard

2018-09-14 15:54:29 UTC

Wish i could have stubble though

2018-09-14 15:55:05 UTC

lol get some minoxidil, or peppermint oil

2018-09-14 15:55:07 UTC

Hair transplants usually come from the butt. You don't want that.

2018-09-14 15:55:21 UTC

Dude are you serious lmfao

2018-09-14 15:55:24 UTC

No way

2018-09-14 15:55:50 UTC

Gonna try peppermint oil

2018-09-14 15:56:22 UTC

Raising testosterone levels also increases hair growth

2018-09-14 16:36:45 UTC

Not a soyboy.

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/322711183503130635/490199236508385290/2018-09-14T160036Z_1_LYNXNPEE8D1IN_RTROPTP_0_FOOTBALL-NFL_1.jpg

2018-09-14 16:37:53 UTC

True beast.

2018-09-14 17:20:01 UTC

The alcohol content in minoxidil will torch your skin eventually

2018-09-14 17:20:15 UTC

Turns it to leather

2018-09-14 17:20:57 UTC

@missliterallywho Minoxidil is the active ingredient in Rogaine

2018-09-14 17:21:51 UTC

And I've heard it's irritating but not that bad, it's not like you need to use it forever either @Aeyannic_Order

2018-09-14 17:22:44 UTC

Well I had a bad experience using it

2018-09-14 17:22:54 UTC

oh really, dang

2018-09-14 17:23:05 UTC

Have you tried peppermint oil?

2018-09-14 17:23:18 UTC

Seems like the best natural option

2018-09-14 17:23:33 UTC

Yea it works to some extent but dries it out

2018-09-14 17:23:45 UTC

To the point of irritation

2018-09-14 17:24:12 UTC

I gave up, too much work and experimenting

2018-09-14 17:30:32 UTC

I thought the point was irritation honestly

2018-09-14 17:30:44 UTC

to increase bloodflow

2018-09-14 17:30:47 UTC

for better growth

2018-09-14 17:31:44 UTC
2018-09-14 18:08:22 UTC

I have pretty much every indicator of normal/high testosterone except body and facial hair so im pretty sure that isnt my issue. Iโ€™m just not hairy lol

2018-09-14 18:08:30 UTC

Has its pros and cons I guess

2018-09-14 18:23:17 UTC

I'm much the same way, but I have something to work with on my face

2018-09-15 03:16:40 UTC

Does any know how to make a PDF ?

2018-09-15 03:17:04 UTC

from a document?

2018-09-15 03:17:13 UTC

mac or pc?

2018-09-15 03:17:16 UTC

I have a bunch of old books I would like to make into a PDF

2018-09-15 03:17:36 UTC

is it text or pictures?

2018-09-15 03:18:21 UTC

Both they are old fashion Pattern Maker Trade text books

2018-09-15 03:18:42 UTC

text you can usually File>Save As>PDF

2018-09-15 03:18:43 UTC

or

2018-09-15 03:18:49 UTC

File>Print

2018-09-15 03:19:03 UTC

Select Printer>PDF

2018-09-15 03:19:12 UTC

HMMM

2018-09-15 03:19:26 UTC

usually

2018-09-15 03:19:37 UTC

if not you may need to install acrobat

2018-09-15 03:20:23 UTC

i'm going to have to buy a scanner as well?

2018-09-15 03:20:36 UTC

File>Export

2018-09-15 03:20:57 UTC

Hay whats up Thomas ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

2018-09-15 03:21:23 UTC

true

2018-09-15 07:18:05 UTC

@V.Balboa - PA you mean you have physical books and want to make them into PDFs? You need a special book scanner for that, they run a few hundred dollars, or you could find a print shop to do it but they might be hesitant if the book is copyrighted (or they might not idk).

2018-09-15 07:50:58 UTC

@ThisIsChris @V.Balboa - PA Iโ€™ve used these guys before for scanning books to PDFs.

@everyone If anybody is a CDL driver near South Jersey who likes long trips, DM me.

2018-09-17 02:48:45 UTC

@Deleted User I just watched that entire video thinking it was you doing it. Nonetheless, it was quite entertaining.

2018-09-17 03:14:47 UTC

Whoops nah haha, it's a tutorial I'll be following roughly. I could watch those kind of videos forever though

2018-09-17 03:24:48 UTC

Yeah, same here. I wondered how he was going to get the grip rounded after he glued the pieces together. It was a great video.

2018-09-17 20:56:03 UTC

After some searching, I can't seem to identify what model this knife is

2018-09-17 20:56:17 UTC

Some are very similar, but none fit the bill

2018-09-17 21:30:02 UTC

Do we have a music channel in here?

2018-09-17 22:25:57 UTC

There's a whole music server, if it's still up. I could be wrong but I don't believe it's exclusively IE.

2018-09-17 22:26:01 UTC
2018-09-19 18:43:09 UTC

Anyone into SCUBA here?

2018-09-19 19:22:48 UTC

Iโ€™m certified but havenโ€™t dove in a few years.

2018-09-19 19:32:22 UTC

Too claustrophobic

2018-09-19 19:42:04 UTC

I did it a looong time ago, but basically no.

2018-09-19 21:53:40 UTC

Dam I love diving Haven't gone in a long time

2018-09-19 21:53:52 UTC

Dove some wrecks in GA and a ton in the FL keys

2018-09-19 22:34:23 UTC

Go to a tropical area. Visibility is unreal compared to lakes or rivers in south. Or even the coast. Iโ€™m sure the Keys are pretty awesome. Iโ€™ve dove in Australia and Belize. I want to do some ancient sunken sites. Megalithic in nature.

2018-09-19 23:05:24 UTC

I Dove Belize too @The Huwhyte Ulf - VA it was unbelievable

2018-09-19 23:05:31 UTC

Best dives of my life hands down

2018-09-19 23:06:06 UTC

Did a night dive there that blew my mind flaming scallops everywhere

2018-09-19 23:06:45 UTC

Saw some bioluminescent squid too

2018-09-20 00:32:53 UTC

I didnt get to go at night. I really would like to see some bioluminescent organisms. I really want to get back into it but my wife doesnt enjoy it as much as I do.

2018-09-20 06:17:47 UTC

@Deleted User looks like an old Buck or Schrade

2018-09-20 06:22:49 UTC

If the pommel is aluminum there is an off chance it could be an ancient Ruana from Montana.

2018-09-20 06:46:53 UTC

I mean, it says kabar on it

2018-09-20 06:47:01 UTC

But I can't find the model.

2018-09-20 06:47:10 UTC

Oh

2018-09-20 06:47:15 UTC

Ok

2018-09-20 06:48:00 UTC

Finn

2018-09-20 06:50:57 UTC

Actually, too big to be Finn

2018-09-20 06:52:07 UTC

May be marine hunter

2018-09-20 06:54:09 UTC

yeah marine hunter looks very similar, but there are differences

2018-09-20 06:54:18 UTC

2018-10-03 00:36:40 UTC

i have some books that i would like to be turned into PFD's

2018-10-03 03:43:01 UTC

@ThisIsChris We should create a role for people who are good at writing

2018-10-03 03:43:16 UTC

That way if we want to practice our rhetoric, we can tag someone who knows their stuff

2018-10-03 03:46:13 UTC

How about <@&387091385075105804>?

2018-10-03 03:47:00 UTC

2018-10-03 23:12:36 UTC

Anyone here know anything about repairing roof leaks? It's raining hard where I live and rain is leaking through roof by the chimney.

2018-10-03 23:41:52 UTC

Do you have access to your attic? Hard to do anything while things are wet. Is your roof metal or asphalt shingles?

2018-10-04 01:39:54 UTC

Asphalt

2018-10-04 01:52:10 UTC

Lay tarps over roof, stagger from bottom to top

My university actually has an okay one. I can't promise it works very well, but you might could find one at a uni near you. Mine doesn't charge me anything and I just have to carry a flash drive with me. It makes searchable PDGs.

2018-10-07 23:14:18 UTC

hmmm ill check out my local uni than

2018-10-07 23:14:35 UTC

Tf

2018-10-12 16:24:44 UTC

How odd. He posted his youtube video and I just commented on how his Polish and Gadsden flag needed ironing. And someone else said he was yelling and now he's melting down?

2018-10-12 16:58:33 UTC

At least he left easy and quick, instead of really causing trouble

2018-10-12 17:16:11 UTC

Just saw the video. He seems like he's on the spectrum, in all seriousness. He was borderline shouting like an angry robot. Its okay to have passion and all, but you have to be able to direct and present it. Geez he even uploaded an 'IE version' of the video he showed in chat earlier that wasnt any more redeeming either.

2018-10-12 17:20:01 UTC

link me?

2018-10-12 17:23:17 UTC

Am I allowed to post it in the public chat here? Sorry Im still getting accustomed to the OpSec. type boundaries between various channels/servers.

Anyways.
