@ me if you have questions internal medicine doc could answer

2017-07-24 22:05:56 UTC

Anyone have good treatment for burn blisters?

2017-07-24 22:06:31 UTC

Cool water for about 7 minutes.

2017-07-24 22:06:49 UTC

Put really loose wrapping around it.

2017-07-24 22:07:26 UTC

There is some medication you can take for them, but you can just put some aloe vera on it.

2017-07-24 22:08:15 UTC
2017-07-24 22:08:49 UTC

Don't pop it for starters. Blister treatment 101

2017-07-24 22:10:05 UTC

Yeah, popping it will open you to infection.

2017-07-24 22:10:08 UTC
2017-07-24 22:10:14 UTC

and yes don't pop it

2017-07-24 22:10:50 UTC

prevent any more friction moleskin is the best way to do that if its on your foot

2017-07-24 22:10:57 UTC

Also I thought mole skin was for preventative measures.

2017-07-24 22:11:04 UTC

Ohhh, that is what you had in mind.

2017-07-24 22:11:14 UTC

its more for after the fact but can be used for both

2017-07-24 22:11:51 UTC

you cut a hole the size of the blister in the moleskin and place it on preventing any more friction while allowing the blister to breath and heal

2017-07-24 22:45:11 UTC

@Louis Loire - NY that's something I never even considered for my bag. Mole skin.

2017-07-24 22:46:45 UTC

"Don't pop it"

2017-07-24 22:46:50 UTC

Immediately pops

2017-07-24 22:46:57 UTC

MAMA MIA

2017-07-24 22:58:47 UTC

Don't freak out about it, I have had em popped and have had other horrifying things open to infection. Just clean it about twice a day, especially when you come home. @StrawberryArmada

2017-07-24 23:08:06 UTC

Just soap and water?

2017-07-24 23:08:45 UTC

Yeah it's what I most of the time use.

2017-07-24 23:08:52 UTC

Neosporin too if you got it.

2017-07-24 23:09:12 UTC

just be a man and use alcohol or witch hazel

2017-07-24 23:09:41 UTC

don't worry about it but blisters on the back of your heel can get infected easily

2017-07-24 23:13:53 UTC

Or that.

2017-07-25 01:07:46 UTC

Once blister open the pocket is a site for infection. Usually want to debride extra skin, keep wound dry and clean

2017-07-25 01:08:46 UTC

No reason to use alcohol over less painful peroxide

2017-07-25 01:09:09 UTC

I'd just use that once, then soap and water after

2017-07-30 18:25:27 UTC

Any good remedy for cauliflower ear? Just ice?

2017-07-30 19:38:27 UTC

@Deleted User if I remember correctly you can drain it before it solidifies or whatever tf happens but Google how to before you take my word for it. Mileage may vary.

2017-07-30 20:30:22 UTC

Dean lister has a great video in how to drain it on YouTube bro... @Deleted User

Anyone here know anything about improvised antibiotics? Wanting some for my bug out/medical kit. I guess I could throw In some used ones the next time I get a script but I've heard fish tank antibotixs are similar to cypro and safe for human consumption

2017-08-11 01:46:35 UTC

@Deleted User yes actually fish antibiotics are the same as the ones they give to mammals. Just make sure you take a high enough dose for long enough. An infection coming back is bad news bears.

I was a corpsman, does that count lol

2017-08-14 21:58:42 UTC

@Deleted User only the moderators can post in the lessons threads

2017-08-14 22:00:26 UTC

Can we get some CPR stuff posted in there? One of the better places to start. @Brandon Ironside- ND

@Deleted User and @Louis Loire - NY โ˜๐Ÿป

2017-08-14 22:07:05 UTC

CPR is very basic just YouTube red cross CPR if you dont break a rib your doing it wrong

2017-08-14 22:07:44 UTC

I will post how to do the head tilt chin lift for rescure breathing and BVM operation

2017-08-14 22:09:14 UTC

Idk if I'd post the rib breaking stuff lol. That's how you get people pushing to the spine. 2 inches, you might crack a rib or 2, just be weary of that. Depth is 1/3 for kiddos.

2017-08-14 22:12:01 UTC

@Deleted User ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

2017-08-14 22:28:10 UTC

Reminder that everyone who is a medic and has something to share should. Just because youre not a mod at this stage does not mean we don't want to hear from you. That goes for every subject.

2017-08-14 22:39:27 UTC

Ive done CPR many time on real patients you will almost always break a rib

2017-08-14 22:40:11 UTC

Breaking a rib is minor compared to dying of an infarction

2017-08-14 22:41:46 UTC

So have I, work on an ambulance full time, hospital part. I've seen plenty of newbys to CPR try purposely to break ribs because someone told them they have to.

2017-08-14 22:42:13 UTC

Then they need to retake anatomy

2017-08-14 22:42:32 UTC

Amd should be fired

2017-08-14 22:51:43 UTC

Or, we could teach them the depth without saying "if you don't break ribs, you're not doing it right". It leads to pigeon religion like when people put a spoon in a seizing persons mouth.

2017-08-14 22:54:06 UTC

Literally everytime I see a code, someone is doing CPR atrociously wrong. That's the reason I brought it up. It is the most basic thing, and it's usually done wrong.

2017-08-14 23:08:29 UTC

@Deleted User do they still teach ABC?

2017-08-14 23:13:38 UTC

ABC for a regular code, CAB for trauma.

2017-08-14 23:20:14 UTC

Honestly though, if you are a bystander doing CPR, just open the airway with a head tilt (if no signs of spinal trauma), make sure someone calls 911, and do the chest compressions. If you get an assistant, you can worry about the rescue breaths, but building up blood pressure, and keeping it circulating is more important.

2017-08-14 23:36:39 UTC

@everyone Did anyone talk to the guys we used home remedies for pepper spray on? Did anything seem to work more than just water and air?

2017-08-14 23:37:37 UTC

@Deleted User milk, Maalox, and baby shampoo.

2017-08-14 23:37:55 UTC

MILK

2017-08-14 23:38:25 UTC

Data shows most important things to surviving arrest is quality compressions and how quickly someone can be cardioverted

2017-08-14 23:38:59 UTC

If someone goes down, start compressions and get AED asap.

2017-08-14 23:40:30 UTC

My only concern with the milk is if we are out in the heat, not sure someone would like stinky hot milk on their face.

2017-08-14 23:44:43 UTC

1:3 baby soap to water in a spray bottle. Scrub scrub scrub. Then 1:1 maalox to water in a spray bottle. Make sure to get both the soap mixture and maalox in the patient's eyes. Rise with water good. Repeat the process. Don't use milk. That's gross

2017-08-14 23:45:13 UTC

^ this is a Richard Spencer approved method, btw. Got to test it on him a couple times

2017-08-14 23:48:19 UTC

@ErikaI saw you using it, i was using just normal saline for an eye flush which didn't seem to help much.

2017-08-14 23:49:39 UTC

OC spray is oil based. Milk. Water. Saline. Etc. won't do anything to strip away the oil. Stripping away the oil is something that needs to happen before you can neutralize the capsaicin.

2017-08-14 23:57:01 UTC

Baked A. Freaked when I gave him my baby shampoo and water solution.

2017-08-14 23:59:04 UTC

Richard. McLaren. Freiberg. Ajax. And several others all said my method for neutralizing OC spray worked wonders. Richard also shouted out my efforts on the latest Shoah. I'm now known as the "guardian angel" lol

2017-08-14 23:59:30 UTC

@Havamal baked got a totally different level of pepper spray than what I treated.

2017-08-15 00:06:09 UTC

Was it even pepper spray or some type of acid?

2017-08-15 00:17:06 UTC

He received something at ultra high pressure. It's possible it was bear mace, or it could have been draino

2017-08-15 00:26:46 UTC

I talked to Baked. It was apparently something called class 4 bear mace. Nasty stuff.

2017-08-15 00:31:55 UTC

I though bear mace was weaker?

2017-08-15 00:32:22 UTC

Which sounds odd but I swear I've read it in multiple places

2017-08-15 02:57:21 UTC

It is weaker.

2017-08-15 02:58:15 UTC

But if you get anything shot into your eyes at high pressure at close range, eye damage is a distinct possibility.

2017-08-15 03:17:16 UTC

Makes sense.

2017-08-15 03:17:51 UTC

Especially considering bear mace often times has a shot distance of 30 feet

2017-08-15 14:26:45 UTC

@Deleted User, whatever @Erika used on me seemed pretty effective.

2017-08-15 14:29:02 UTC

Good deal, i had heard online that everything was kind of just placebo effect. I didn't really believe that because i would think removing the agent would help.

2017-08-15 14:37:18 UTC

@Louis Loire - NY @Erika did you guys have anything other than pepper spray? Had a cut with urine in it, that looked like it needed a couple stitches, and blunt trauma to the forearm proximal to the elbow.

2017-08-15 15:59:08 UTC

@Deleted User I had two hypoglycemia cases to work with. The majority of what I dealt with was pepper spray.

2017-08-15 15:59:55 UTC

@Deleted User was happy to be of service. I felt bad for the entire VIP crowd and you PSDs. Y'all got it rough and the corrupt police didn't do a damn thing.

2017-08-15 18:10:08 UTC

I had multiple facial lacerations acid attacks oven cleaner attacks and cracked skulls

2017-08-15 18:10:19 UTC

I treated about 15 people

2017-08-15 18:10:36 UTC
2017-08-15 18:11:04 UTC

I was also in the park till the very end i treated a few wounded at mc intryw as well

2017-08-15 18:15:32 UTC

Lessons learned? @Erika @Louis Loire - NY i honestly didn't expect as much pepper spray as was there. We also need to plan an actual triage point next time, I think. What helped with the oven cleaner? Were there any Neuro symptoms with the skull fracture?

2017-08-15 18:16:33 UTC

No just bleeding and stiches needed and rhe oven cleaner was highly toxic i had nothing and we were under fire from both cops and antifa it was a mad house

2017-08-15 18:17:03 UTC

And yes i need to mix that stuff that Erika made my pepper spray wipes did jack shit

2017-08-15 18:17:28 UTC

Told Nathan to not buy then again either he had the same ones

2017-08-15 18:22:58 UTC

Is the person that got sprayed with the oven cleaner good? Seems like the best thing would be just flush with water, or vinegar (since oven cleaner is basic).

2017-08-15 18:25:07 UTC

@Erika did you have a glucometer to check sugars, or were they just showing signs?

2017-08-15 18:52:08 UTC

He was pretty messed up tried flushing it out he was making it worse by panicking he was the guy in the blue shirt with the black sun American flag

2017-08-15 18:52:23 UTC

We got him out though

2017-08-15 18:52:59 UTC

Any in eyes or airway?

2017-08-15 18:54:22 UTC

@Erika did you treat a guy in white pants

2017-08-18 00:56:10 UTC

@everyone if you are going to be part of a medic team at an event and need supplies, have someone (in leadership) who can confirm you will be there PM me, you also PM me, and I will get you most everything you need.

@Erika Your team was johnny-on-the-spot Saturday. I've wanted to commend you all for how effective and QRF you guys were. Just haven't really had the chance until now

2017-08-18 01:05:42 UTC

ITS BEAUTIFUL

2017-08-18 01:06:12 UTC

@Phillip Wiglesworth - FL thank you. It was tough, but I think we were all happy to be there to help everyone who were in need

2017-08-18 01:06:16 UTC

You guys were so busy and didn't want to bother you.

2017-08-18 19:18:44 UTC

Yeah thanks again

2017-08-19 23:48:26 UTC

I'm pretty certain I've got a minor case of plantar fasciitis. Anything I can do to quickly get back to running?

2017-08-19 23:53:06 UTC
2017-08-20 00:41:52 UTC

Quickly? Depends how bad

2017-08-20 00:42:18 UTC

Freeze water bottle and roll on bottom of foot

2017-08-20 00:42:36 UTC

Get.some nsaids to take with food

2017-08-20 00:43:17 UTC

Get brace over the counter to sleep in to keep foot dorsiflexed

2017-08-20 00:43:45 UTC

And stretch w a towel looped around bottom of feet

2017-08-20 00:43:59 UTC

Of the affected.foot rather

2017-08-20 00:44:17 UTC

Heel inserts help a bunch as well

2017-08-20 01:46:45 UTC

What are nsiads?

2017-08-20 01:47:59 UTC

Is there anything I can do to strengthen my foot and keep running without making it worse?

2017-08-20 01:48:21 UTC

non steroid anti inflamatory drugs. Tylenol.

2017-08-20 01:49:40 UTC

I had Plant Fasciatis. One method is to find a cool stream or lake with a smushy gravel bottom, and wade around in it.

2017-08-20 01:51:18 UTC

Do a full butt-stretch. Then a hamstring stretch. Then calf stetch---In that order. Jumping ahead to the calf stretch is not advisable, because the tendons in your toes connect all the way up the back of your body, and you need to stretch the big muscles first.

2017-08-20 01:54:45 UTC

Another method to deal with plantar fasciatis is to get some heavy wool socks. Coat them with duct tape, to make an improvised moccasin. Then walk around on pea gravel. Like with the stream-bed technique, what your are doing is breaking up the scar tissue on your foot tendons. You should also ice the feet, elevate them, and take ibuprofen. Before doing more of the pea-gravel walking.

2017-08-20 01:57:55 UTC

With my case, I saw a foot doctor (podiatrist). He taught me how to tape my feet, and ordered VERY expensive shoe inserts. The 500 dollar inserts are just barely better (for my case) than are Spenco Total Support insoles. https://www.amazon.com/Spenco-Total-Support-Insoles-Womens/dp/B008CJNTI6?th=1

2017-08-20 02:12:56 UTC

Should I lessen my running. It doesn't seem that bad. I think I just moved away from heel striking too quickly.

2017-08-20 02:17:03 UTC

Tylenol is not an nsaid

2017-08-20 02:17:12 UTC

Per wiki, aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen, are all NSAIDs. But Acetaminophen is generally not considered an NSAID because it has only little anti-inflammatory activity. So that's why I was wrong to reflexivly say Tylenol. But I have found you do not want or any other form of tendonitis to set in, because once it does it becomes a chronic condition that is three times as hard to be rid of. After sometimes keeping me awake at night, mine took years to finally clear up. Early medical intervention is the best approach.

2017-08-20 02:17:30 UTC

Ibuprofen, naproxen, aleve

2017-08-20 02:17:40 UTC

Doc: your are correct.

2017-08-20 02:17:53 UTC

Stawberry you do need.to back.off the running

2017-08-20 02:18:25 UTC

If you keep running on it, it will get worse

2017-08-20 02:18:52 UTC

You can get severe chronic pain from this if you keep pushing through

2017-08-20 02:19:21 UTC

Unless you're training for something career critical take a break, do some swimming or something

2017-08-20 02:20:07 UTC

If you're not doing significantly better after a week or so can consider some oral steroids for stronger anti inflammatory effect

2017-08-20 02:22:55 UTC

Ice, nsaid, rest most important

2017-08-20 02:36:55 UTC

I haven't been running at all is the thing

2017-08-20 02:37:03 UTC

I was just about to get really into it

2017-08-20 02:37:32 UTC

I just learned how to run correctly recently

2017-08-20 02:39:17 UTC

Last big thing I did were the marches in Cville

2017-08-20 02:39:44 UTC

I figured I just did too much too quickly

2017-08-20 02:41:17 UTC

Yes, I pointed that out on myself already. But the stretching and walking in pea gravel are remedies I know can work.

2017-08-20 02:43:05 UTC

I also recommended early genuine medical intervention. The pain from it can wake you up at night. It took years for all my tendonitis-type symptoms to diminsh. If you ever get what feels like a sore muscle that never goes away, get to a doctor. Use Ibuprofen, stretching, massage, and Ice. And steriods.

2017-08-20 02:47:27 UTC

I took some ibuprofen and iced my foot. It only started to hurt after standing up at work all day and when I first woke up on the back of my heels for a minute

2017-08-20 03:00:52 UTC

Ah, if that mild should be easy fix. Try frozen water bottle trick to massage and ice at same time

2017-08-20 03:01:42 UTC

If it goes away in a week or two could I do some light running?

2017-08-20 03:03:40 UTC

Tendons take twice as long to heal as muscles. You'd be wise to wait 4 weeks to go running. That's why you have a bicycle and a place to swim, right?

2017-08-20 03:04:44 UTC

Another trick is ro roll a ball on the floor under your foot when sitting down. A tennis ball works well.

2017-08-20 03:15:06 UTC

This type of thing can turn chronic if not careful. Baby it a bit for a month, do lower impact things like Chuck saying, then start back gently.

2017-08-20 03:30:26 UTC

I feel like all I've done are low impact things. I'm lucky enough my grandparents have a pool but I find it disappointing that the moment start making plans to run this happens

2017-08-20 03:32:00 UTC

Work on your upper body with weights. Maybe lower body 10 days. If this turns permanent (like almost happened to me) it will cause you years of misery and sleepless nights.

2017-08-20 03:33:44 UTC

I've got RLS so sleepless nights are the norm. How long should I take to work my way down to using minimalist shoes so this doesn't happen again?

2017-08-20 03:36:39 UTC

some would say that shoes are the problem, and that barefooting is best. Some claim FiveFingers shoes are bad, some say they are good. For now, I'd recommend getting those Spenco Inserts inside normal shoes, and getting lots of massage, stretching, IBU, ice, and rest. Then try the duct-tape sock mocassins on pea gravel. This can take months or years to heal. Buy a better bicycle.

2017-08-20 03:38:46 UTC

What is pea gravel? I'm not really looking at months to fix this am I? Like one day of walking around Cville couldn't have ruined my tendon?

2017-08-20 03:40:02 UTC

Pea gravel is rounded small gravel. It is found in some driveways. It is not the crushed gravel you usually see, and it moves around and never really forms a solid surface.

2017-08-20 03:41:25 UTC

I injured my shoulder once in a rodeo. I did not listen to my doctor, and took off the brace and started catching baseballs before I should have. By not following my doctor's orders, the injury went on a long time. Go see a doctor, and I think he'd agree that a month off is what you need.

2017-08-20 03:41:41 UTC

I've heard since it was an unusual amount of stress that I don't normally have it may heal quickly

2017-08-20 03:41:50 UTC

I'm fine with taking a month easy

2017-08-20 03:42:05 UTC

But if this last years I may as well just give up entirely

2017-08-20 03:43:41 UTC

A month of swimming or bicyclling, and upper-body lift is not giving up. I bet you're a long-distance fag, and like most of those you need the upper body workout anyway.

2017-08-20 03:44:41 UTC

I used to be a runner, too. Sorry if I my specualtions were wrong or insulting, it was meant to be funny.

2017-08-20 03:45:34 UTC

My best Two-Mile run was 11:02. I'm still pretty pround of it.

2017-08-20 03:45:53 UTC

Proud, I meant.

2017-08-20 03:46:19 UTC

I'm trying to get into long distance and free running

2017-08-20 03:47:10 UTC

And I never even got to run in my transitional shoes and my foot is already messed up

Some blame shoes for mankind's physical problems. I can't stand barefooting, personally. After 14 days of rest, you might try hiking. And you should look into the arcane theory of "grounding." -Which involves hiking in mocassins. SEE wwwDot.moccasinscanada.com/mens/moccasin-boots/earthing-cork-moosehide

2017-08-20 03:52:36 UTC

Is hiking really the best option since that's pretty much the cause of this?

2017-08-20 03:53:13 UTC

I've always felt unnatural in big shoes but my mother always forced me to wear them.

2017-08-20 03:53:57 UTC

Good question. I like hiking, and never had the same problems from that as running. "Earthing" with moccasins gets your foot bones and muscles a little work-out.

2017-08-20 03:55:38 UTC

I'd be up for something like that once it doesn't hurt to walk anymore. Unfortunately I can't get out of my long work shifts

2017-08-20 03:56:50 UTC

My podiatrist taught me how to tape my feet, and ordered 500 dollar inserts. I'd suggett Spenco Total Support insoles, which are less than 30 bucks: https://www.amazon.com/Spenco-Total-Support-Insoles-Womens/dp/B008CJNTI6?th=1

2017-08-26 17:26:44 UTC

@StrawberryArmada Night splints worked wonders for my plantar fasciitis. I only had to wear them a few nights and it was gone, after weeks of pain.

2017-08-26 17:47:54 UTC

Do you know where I can get one?

2017-08-27 00:23:59 UTC

Walgreens or cvs

2017-08-27 00:24:02 UTC

Walmart

2017-08-27 00:27:41 UTC

This is one I like the best. Got at Walgreens

2017-08-27 01:33:14 UTC

Anyone online?

2017-08-27 01:33:41 UTC

What's up brother?

2017-08-27 01:34:56 UTC

I got a swollen bee sting. Should I just wait it out, or do something about it?

2017-08-27 01:36:12 UTC

Not particularly painful, but annoying to walk with because it's on my foot

2017-08-27 01:38:45 UTC

How bad is the swelling? I assume you're not allergic

2017-08-27 01:44:09 UTC

@Helbrecht - WA The side of my foot has noticeably grown, though I can still put shoes on.

2017-08-27 01:44:32 UTC

Not allergic

2017-08-27 01:46:25 UTC

Benadryl would be best. It'll slow down and stop anything that could be going on. And if you know where exactly the bee sting is a baking soda and water paste on it will draw out the bees venom which will help a lot too

2017-08-27 01:47:14 UTC

As long as your whole foot isn't swelling up and you're not having other symptoms it's nothing to be too worried about ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

2017-08-27 01:48:56 UTC

@Helbrecht - WA Thank you

2017-08-27 01:49:24 UTC

No problem!

2017-08-27 02:09:03 UTC

Aye and ice and elevation can't hurt either

2017-08-27 02:18:09 UTC

@Deleted User Thank you too

2017-08-27 02:46:00 UTC

All of the above is great

2017-08-28 02:13:11 UTC

@everyone who will be going to an event any time soon? I'm going to be making small kits for the medics in the crowd, and an ambulance bag for the triage point/medic truck. For the higher ups, I think this would be the best way to coordinate the medic teams. C-ville was kind of a cluster-f for us, and I think we should focus on getting structured. This includes comms, universal kit setups, a point that all elements (security, etc.) Know where to take someone for medical care.

2017-08-28 02:37:05 UTC

Great idea, Joe. I know we'd be interested in those kits.

2017-08-28 02:39:40 UTC

We're working on some better concoctions to deal with injuries from bear mace, acid, and bleach.

2017-08-28 02:40:57 UTC

Our own ambulance service would be a good idea too, with a truck/van waiting to medevac someone to the nearest hospital.

2017-08-28 09:31:07 UTC

Would save our guys a good bit of cash too

2017-08-28 18:35:50 UTC

From a logistics perspective if doing a big event like cville I agree Wiley.

2017-08-28 19:45:25 UTC

@Erika can you have someone post your mace remedy in the medic lessons thread?

2017-08-28 19:54:08 UTC

@Deleted User I'll write it up tonight and send it to whoever has the ability to post in that channel.

2017-08-28 20:03:06 UTC

I need that dmed to me also if you can thanks! @Erika

2017-08-28 20:03:26 UTC

@Louis Loire - NY absolutely!

2017-08-28 21:20:00 UTC

I'm trying to find a cheap small bag guys can buy without sweating it. Any ideas on what we need in them? So far:
2x large gauze
1x tourniquet
1x bottle of saline
1x bottle of pepper spray remedy
5x 4x4 gauze
1x coban
1x tape
1x medical sheers
2x Cold packs
Bandaids
Sanitizer wipes
Alcohol preps
Anything else you guys can think of for first responders in the crowd?

2017-08-28 21:26:15 UTC

I can tell you one thing, with the amount of pepper spray I had to treat at Cville, a lot of gauze is needed. I was using so much and I didn't even treat any bloody wounds.

2017-08-28 21:29:39 UTC

ab pads or 5x9s work well for wiping off the solution and having a soaked pad to leave the patient

2017-08-28 21:41:49 UTC

^ absolutely
4x4s and cut strips of 4" gauze rolls also worked well for me

2017-08-29 17:43:57 UTC

Any doctors, PA's, RN's, or radiology professionals who would know enough about my calcaneus x-ray to tell me what it looks like to them?

2017-08-29 17:45:26 UTC

@here โ˜๐Ÿป

2017-08-29 17:45:36 UTC

I'm horrified at what my surgeon told me today >.<

2017-08-29 18:14:13 UTC

The surgeon will know more than me and most here so id recommend listening to your team

2017-08-29 18:38:28 UTC

Oh I am for sure, he just made it sound like I'm doomed if I don't do this or this or this, etc

2017-08-29 18:39:15 UTC

@Phillip Wiglesworth - FL what did he say? If you're comfortable sharing.

2017-08-29 18:40:41 UTC

He might be saying avoiding surgery will lead to futher complications and permanent injury

2017-08-29 18:41:01 UTC

I'd do the surgery avoid future pain

2017-08-29 18:41:47 UTC

basically that.

2017-08-29 18:43:01 UTC

Yeah I'd do the surgery its not worth trying to avoid it esp if the bone damage is bad

2017-08-29 18:43:15 UTC

my calcaneus is broken all the way through, that much is really obvious from the x-rays. and since my ER visit, it's spreading further apart due to achilles tendon pulling on it. so now there's a sharp edge from the fracture poking up into the ankle joint, which will cause traumatic arthritis if I don't get surgery, he said

2017-08-29 18:43:44 UTC

I cracked my hip when I was 18 and didn't get the recommended surgery wish I did thing still hurts sometimes

2017-08-29 18:44:23 UTC

Yeah get the surgery that injury sounds like it will only get worse

2017-08-29 18:44:32 UTC

Not something to fuck with

2017-08-29 18:44:34 UTC

my foot is super swollen right now, with some pitting edema...so he can't do the surgery for a few weeks until that goes away

2017-08-29 18:44:57 UTC

Untill then obey all directions given

2017-08-29 18:45:22 UTC

so ya basically, I'm confined to my bed with my foot elevated above my heart. and bored watching movies lol

2017-08-29 18:52:49 UTC

If you're gonna be in the rwds, you have to be able to use your feet๐Ÿ˜‚

2017-08-29 18:53:55 UTC

I guess my concern outright is that since it's worker's comp, I've been told sometimes doctors dealing with worker's comp cases basically just do what the worker's comp ins people tell them to do b/c it's such a pain in the ass for them to fight for what SHOULD be done

2017-08-29 20:19:14 UTC

Have any of you looked into using x-rays for wound treatment

2017-08-29 20:19:40 UTC

It would be very valuable in a situation where antibiotics were difficult to obtain

2017-08-29 20:20:53 UTC

I would think that if antibiotics were difficult to obtain, x-rays would be even moreso.

2017-08-29 20:21:40 UTC

No all u need is a battery

2017-08-29 20:22:12 UTC

A small solar panel could obtain charge for a dozen or more treatments a day and a battery could hold hundreds

2017-08-29 20:22:38 UTC

Small x Ray generators exist about the size of a large smartphone

2017-08-29 20:23:09 UTC

You only need 50kV or less for surface treatments

2017-08-30 07:14:20 UTC

@Deleted User , Spencer & co will be at the University of Florida on September 12.

2017-08-30 07:18:17 UTC

@Deleted User looking forward to seeing y'all again! I'll be there, and I'm assembling a Florida EMS squad. Hopefully less pepper spray and more cops doing their job this time

2017-09-01 01:07:13 UTC

Really looking forward to medical lessons. I'm sure IE has at least a couple nurses, or perhaps a doctor to teach us

2017-09-01 01:10:24 UTC

I'm typing up the how to deal with defensive sprays guide right now. Hopefully I'll have it done tonight. The most common medical issue we seemingly have to deal with at events right now is getting pepper sprayed, so really, everyone should be prepared to know how to deal with it

2017-09-01 02:51:15 UTC

Here's a lesson, if you're ever feeling soft on the euthanasia question, do a ride along on an ambulance. It's been a rough night.

2017-09-01 21:13:35 UTC

Ugh. Sorry brother

2017-09-01 21:20:02 UTC

@everyone
Here's my "how to" guide of how to manage a patient who has been pepper sprayed, tear gassed, or sprayed with household cleaning products.
