Well, I am here now. Today, I had to reorganize my news links. I had so many Tim Pool sites that he has the honor of being the only subfolder in a subfolder. He is in the TimCast subfolder in my news subfolder in my channels subfolder. ๐

There is a problem democracy has not learned to weight into its governmental systems adequately. Specialization in the age of Merchant Guilds was limited in contrast to today. A doctorate of philosophy covered every accrued field of knowledge. Today, that is not possible. It is not possible to have professional specialists weighted according to their value in a polity which is 99% ignorant of their specialty.
@Timcast Now that the ACLU has decided to censor free speech, to choose what to defend on the basis of intersectionality and Leftist agendas what can we know? The ACRU is the conservative version of the ACLU, but are they reliable or too biased to do the job?

I got a legal question about statutory laws. I looked up the legal definition of voter in my state, and it said a voter is a legal voter. How in the world does that define anything? A dog is a legal dog?
There are no conflicting views to mine. Mine are right ๐
I have the problem of having grown up in a family of librarians, teachers, and ministers. And not having taken a single American lit course until I got to college. I speak the same words as everyone else, it just isn't the same language.
This is almost like 110-115 years ago. It was remarked how Americans would get off work, go home and change out of their work clothes into a suit, and hit the pub to debate politics.

That your personal position slips every now and again helps too. Makes you genuine and demonstrates your effort to be fair.
Steel Manning is the opposite of straw manning. The taking of the othersides position to argue it accurately as good as possible - perhaps even better than they do.
I learned the term from Eric Weinstein.
I have a position that all forms of Marxism are anathema to Lockean Principle. I make value judgments on the political and economic from there.

RSMo 1.035. Voter defined. โ Whenever the word "voter" is used in the laws of this state it shall mean registered voter, or legal voter.

Yeah, not real hip on the no felony convictions to vote. I think that protects judges way too much.

I read a lot of the RSMo when I was an alderman here in my little pretentious village/4th class city. Some of what was written in it then couldn't be diagrammed as a sentence if one had Churchill and Einstein working together to figure it out.
Well, just remember that someone has to decide who is and isn't mentally deficient. Which would mean social scientists, who are all on the Left, deciding all conservatives are mentally deficient and cannot vote.
We have had incredibly few occurrences of the EC differing from popular opinion.

@osok In Missouri, any thing that is not legislated on we fall back on the Common Law of England. So, in Missouri, your only legal name is your Christened name, and all others are customary.
I have wondered if it would not be appropriate to put all "prisons" under the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. Render all conditions of incarceration as a medical consideration.
I also wonder if law enforcement for state profit cannot be changed. As far as I can tell it only corrupts the state.
Cops have always been the largest street gang, but with legitimacy and with the purpose of making sure the mayor is not interrupted before their third cup of coffee each morning.
That isn't necessarily a bad thing though. In Kansas City the line between govt. and the mob didn't really exist during the Great Depression through WW II.

The worst cops, IMO, are the Obies and Barneys. It is much harder to fix dedicated and friendly ineptitude than deliberate misbehavior.
@Maw Decades ago, when I was in M.I. the Russians claimed to be monitoring every single telephone conversation in the US. Of course they didn't. There wasn't enough man hours in the entire USSR to manage that. It is the same in Policing. We don't have enough man hours in the nation to monitor 55,000,000 interactions a year.
Another problem we have is the police feeling marginalized, targeted, and lacking sufficient manpower to do the job.
Last I looked at the numbers, in comparison to other countries: France has 340 officers per 100k pop, at roughly 1 officer per 1โ square mile. Germany has 381 officers per 100k pop, at 2โ officers per square mile covered. The US has 238 officers per 100k pop, at 1 officer per 5.5 square miles. We have higher rates of crime because we lack a deterring police presence. We only keep enough police to make arrests, and obviously not enough to avoid the police being overwhelmed by any real social upheaval - as has been recently demonstrated. To have the deterring coverage of France to Germany by population, we would need 336,600 to 471,900 more officers. To have that coverage by square mile, we would need between 2,589,482 to 8,073,665 more officers.

We consider college training, which I don't. And frankly, I am not sure one can be trained sufficiently to pull a dead child out of a trash can or refrigerator that was improperly secured.

Cops here have to get 60 days training in a year in addition to other qualifications.
As it is, most officers don't get more than about 3 hours worth of policing in per day.
When I was an OTR truck driver, my knowledge of police work schedules and protocols was handy. I always knew when they would not be on the road because they were doing the 2 to 3 hours of shift paperwork to go home, or the hour of set up to leave the shop after they started their shift.
