@Sheamus haha! Well, in a modern context that defines left-right based on the amount of power government has, monarchy would be considered left wing. Although I think most people may still associate monarchy, even in a modern context, with the right because of the values that are often associated with monarchy, such as hierarchy, tradition, respect for authority that many right wingers also hold. If we applied modern political terms, for example, to the American Revolution, it was the conservative patriots fighting the liberal king. That sounds funny because I think we all know that, regardless of what one thinks of George III, he certainly was not a "liberal!" I think everyone who was involved in the American Revolution, would today be considered rightwing, to some degree. The king who represents discipline and tradition, and the patriots representing freedom and individual rights.
@MaximusXVI yeah I'm not American, so I'm not going to pretend i know every detail of your history, but i do follow along with what you are getting at. I think the modern context is rather organic and naturally accepted, would make more sense to keep with that definition to avoid unnecessary confusion.
