Again registered idiot but I appreciate all of the help tonight guys
Reorganized the safe... took a group photo while I let them breathe
Not bad, looks like a good little family.
This is really fucking cool
https://youtu.be/hNIkca8k1UQ
Anyone have a list of current manufacturers making low shelf receivers?
PSA used to make one that was marked M4. No idea if they're still in production.
Typical Bear Creek Arsenal mistakes
๐ค I posted that yesterday nerd
I mean. At least it's just the laser engravings... How they managed to run it through twice is baffling though.
Hey guys https://tacticalmachining.com has 80% lowers still in stock. ๐
@Soulraiser i more concerned that they ran it through twice and the markings are like a centimeter offset
@Crye_Salesman Good point
However, it's the engraving that's done after the milling. Everything should be to the same specs still. If the holes were cut like that as well then the concern would be there.
In theory with how billet lowers are made, shouldn't they be difficult to screw up? I mean they use CNC for billet right?
Exactly my point. Therefore, if the lower parts all fit and function properly, and if the upper attaches properly, then there's nothing wrong with it except cosmetic.
And in reality, it was probably sold as a blemished lower in the first place, as they do regularly for parts that had weird shit like that happen.
@Soulraiser you have to put in for a role
Picked up this today to put on the PC
With a few hose clamps you got yourself a "high quality" bayonet...
I forget what movie it is, but the SGT said to take it off because you canโt shoot straight with it on ๐
Band of Brothers; Actually in the midst of watching it with my wife.
Believe it was Bull that told one of the replacements that just before the battle of the bulge.
Is a bayonet affecting your accuracy more fudd-lore or legit?
@Soulraiser damn you sniped that. What a damn good series that is.
I can't imagine the round even coming close to the blade unless something is seriously wrong with your gun.
I have no idea about the legitimacy of that though. Never shot with one and I doubt with rifles these days it would have any effect
It has to do with the added weight at the front of the rifle that you aren't used to being there.
That makes a lot more sense. If you train bayonet fixed it shouldn't be an issue though.
But then it's an issue when you don't have it fixed. It's a lose-lose imo. But useful back when they had bolt action or semi autos that jammed every other shot in a mostly trench warfare style of fighting.
Yea if it came down to a knife situation I think Iโd rather have it in my hand
Anyone have any thoughts on sig m18? Thinking about picking one up this week.
Just a P320, isn't it?
Same advice I give everyone on every Sig USA product: stay away from it until the initial product runs with QC that would make PSA blush are done. Get one in 6 months to a year.
Yea the M18 is a 320
Should be good to pick up
What yall think for a minimalistic cleaning kit on the field,
Gonna go with this I think, keep it small and basic
Boresnake, rifle lube (or grease if youโre a G), a brush (not brass or metal, it will cause unnecessary damage) q-tips (for getting to the area where the gas rings are)
Awesome thanks!
Attached with molle.
A small Allen key set wouldnโt hurt.
For those of you who have never heard of it, CherryBalmz gun grease is amazing for your rifle.
Itโs entirely formulated for your rifle. Iโve talked to the guy who invented it.
Itโs amazing how heโs so good at what he does, he understands the science behind everything as well.
And every single person I know who has used it has told me they donโt ever want to switch back to traditional gun lube.
I personally use alg go juice. Won't say it's any better than other stuff but it's safe for your skin, doesn't gunk up or rot, and rifles don't seem to quit when it has this stuff in it.
I use SLIP EWL, but the other recommendations are good as well
All good options
I hear good things about both SLIP and Go Juice
With the bolt gun I'm saving up for, I'm still kinda torn. Starting to lean a little towards 308 given 7.62x51 is available anywhere in the world and it may be better for learning ballistic calculations on.
Between 7.62 x 51 and?
6.5 creedmoor. I understand it's a superior cartridge ballistically, but 308 and 762 seem like they'd be more available to me in a crisis
Practically speaking, 7.62 x 51 is a good choice.
The availability of optics that have built in BDCs is pretty good as well for 7.62 x 51.
The optic I'll likely be getting is a nightforce shv 4-14x50 f1 in mil dots
Took me longer than i expected to find a mildot scope with milradian adjustments that was also under 2k
My dad already has nice reloading equipment with 308 dies so I'll be able to make my own when i visit
> Took me longer than i expected to find a mildot scope with milradian adjustments that was also under 2k
@Artemis
Exactly. I donโt see the usefulness of mildots if youโre not adjusting in miliradians.
Algebra practice if you're into that sort of thing lol.
After reading about mil and moa, I think mil would be more useful to me
Given that I'm a broke student, I've also been considering the vortex diamondback tactical 4-16x44 ffp in milrad. I know it won't be as good as the nightforce, but is it good enough?
I'm trying to be economical with my money.
I was going to say, broke college student and night force donโt go together
> Given that I'm a broke student, I've also been considering the vortex diamondback tactical 4-16x44 ffp in milrad. I know it won't be as good as the nightforce, but is it good enough?
> I'm trying to be economical with my money.
@Artemis
Does it adjust in miliradians?
Yeah
I mean the nf is relatively cheap for nf, at 1.2k
If the Vortex adjusts in miliradians as well as uses mil-dots, that to me is a good deal, if itโs cheaper than the NF.
Retails at 500, can get it on optics planet for 350. They're supposed to be tough as hell for the price
If it adjusts in miliradians (it does) THATS a hell of a deal.
At least it's marketed as being really tough, and there's reviews of people using it as a hammer lol
well damn
Only thing I don't like is that it doesn't have a zero stop
Itโs a ~$700 difference at least.
Though it only costs one weeks work instead of 4 weeks, yeah
The rest of the money will be spent training. There's a guy in my state who's a retired sniper and owns a mile long range.
A precision rifle class with them costs $300
Super jealous
Thatโs cheap as hell
Also donโt forget to torque your scope rings down properly.
~17 inch pounds should hold it.
@Crye_Salesman curious on your opinion. I know it's a budget option but is it a poor choice? For context, I only bring in around 400 a week.
Iโve got a failure to fire every 3-4 rounds.
Switched out BCGs and still an issue. Could it be a light hammer strike?
What kind of failure?
Is it not cycling or not firing at all?
Make sure your hammer spring isn't installed backward if it's not firing at all.
Anyone hace recommendations on ammo for our type of self defense?
556, in a 16" barrel, run fmj? Hollow? Green tip?
75gr boat tail hollow point if your twist rate supports it
Or 77, anywhere around there
Also open tip match.
The main reason being that 75-77 grain 5.56 bullets fragment incredibly well even at low velocity. They're devastating
Hmm, ill have to see if I can find any
Heaviest I got is 62, but most places have very limited stock lol
You'll want to read this
http://www.ar15.com/ammo/project/self_defense_ammo_FAQ/
Most of it is from a dude with a doctorate
If I can't find any, you think hollow or fmj 55grain would work better?
Cause I knwere I can get those for sure, anything heavier I haven't seen on the shelf
Most stores only carry cheap 55gr plinking ammo and green tip. I'd probably suggest buying either online or at a local business if you can. A lot of online ammo stores have free shipping on the first purchase.
Commiefornia can't buy online ๐ฅบ
Oooh that complicates things
Very lol
And let alone the shortage out here lol
In that case I'd say save up for a large amount of ammo, drive to the nearest free state, and stock up there
I dont think I will, thats illegal and I wouldn't want to get in trouble ๐ so hard no, as an unjust law abiding citizen
I think there's a few shops near the border in Nevada. I'd build one there if I were a store owner lol.
Heard Arizona and Nevada are nice this time around tho!
You might be able to pick up a few totally legal 10 round 458 socom pmags
I bought a few 30pmags that are converted to 10 round (makes them California legal) 1 rivet is all it takes to make it legal
A uhaul might also be good if possible
Happens every 2-3 rounds.
Ah light strikes
Iโm guessing trigger
I tested 3 BCGs
Yeah make sure your hammer spring isn't backward, that's the number one cause, and surprisingly easy to mess up.
I bought the rifle off armslist. It was a safe queen and the dude installed an aftermarket trigger.
Iโll take a look at it.
If it's not a backward hammer spring, then it may be a weaker hammer spring to make the trigger pull lighter.
Shit was annoying cause I was going to put 1200 rounds through yesterday.
Thanks fam.
Itโs not backwards
Saving that image of the correct and wrong way lol im building one atm
@[CA] SoyBoi 62 gr soft points preferably barrier blind
Do you know what brand the trigger is?
Also green tip is trash, doesn't fragment due to the steel tip. The article will list barrier blind and non barrier blind loads that are tested and good to go.
Green tip is actually awful
Idk why people like it so much
They like it because the military used it. Unfortunately that's like saying you clean your floor with a toothbrush because someone did it in boot camp.
M855 equals good 249 ammo and thatโs pretty much it
Also missed your link but that link is dead on
Isn't green tip better id you wanna go through soft materials and prevent fragmentation
Fragmentation is where 5.56 gets its stopping power
m193 from a 18 or 20 in bbl ๐
Slightly better than green tip
Yes in those barrels itโs good
Iโve seen people suggest running it in their 10.5 and itโs effective up to like 80 yards or something
Typically it's best to run heavier stuff because it has more mass to fragment and they're longer, leading to a better ballistic coefficient and longer effective range. Though for home defense the latter part isn't really an issue
Honestly for home defense, you may want a non barrier blind load as it'll be less likely to put holes in your neighbor's house
Any of yall have tips for carrying an extra rifle on ya but have a large backpaxk on?
Like concealed or just normal carry?
Normal
My issue is having a rifle in hand, and a large backpack, so trying to carry the extra rifle
Also assume wearing plates and pouches
I guess a two point sling with a quick adjuster like the blueforce gear sling. Keep it at the tight setting while slung at your chest, then grab the handle and yank it out when you need to shoulder it
I won't need quick access to it, ill look into it, I have a sling coming in that might work for it
Some backpacks are made to carry a rifle straight up and down on the side of it, but I don't really do anything where I would have my rifle stowed somewhere I can't quickly access
Could it be the buffer?
Huh that's a good budget trigger, shouldn't give you problems. Sometimes it can be a light buffer but it's almost always something else
That doesn't look like an ALG hammer spring though
ALG hammer springs are either dark gray steel or purple for the reduced power ones
It might not be. It was a BCM I bought about 2 months ago for 850.
The description said it has an ALG trigger.
Areo precision, decent equipment? I have an opportunity to be a dealer for them
Aero is good
Iโve got the Aero 10 and a Yeet canon stripper lower.
Good quality? In spec so to speak? No blemishes etc
No blemishes. I havenโt done any measurements or anything. Iโm gonna take it to my FFL down the street whoโs a gunsmith. Have him look at it before i do anything with it.
Aero apparently is the best budget option available on the market. The Aero 10 is amazing.
I got a PSA upper months ago to stick on my binary lower. That shit some blemishes. One of them was marked off by a sharpie. ๐๐๐
Aero is kinda like if psa was serviceable. The best bang for your buck, and respected by the community. Apparently thunder ranch even has a class where you build an aero ar and take the class with it.
Their M5 series is what people use almost exclusively for ar10 builds these days. You'll see people in competition running aero precision 308 receivers with stupid expensive barrels like compass lake engineering
Good to know, I'm gonna work on developing that relationship with Aero
Thanks guys
They're also about to come out with an affordable ar9 with last round bolt hold open
Good!
PDWs are very popular
aero is a good balance of cheap and actually to spec, so it will sell easily and you wonโt be fucking people buy selling them bad stuff
@Artemis I donโt know anything about that optic in particular, but at least cortex is a reputable company
@Crye_Salesman my main concern, I wanted entry level.with reliability
Aero is a great place to start. Actually I think I have an idea for you. Have a package deal with aero parts and a short class on how to build an ar
Personally, if I was going to sell parts like that, Iโd do my own QC too
We are too small to offer classes now, however was my goal to start something like that in the next 36 months
Yeah i was considering BCM part kits for building
You *might* get a better deal from colt or Sionics as a distributor, but I donโt know
I'm linked into 15+ Distributors, just trying to get it all online.
Haven't gotten around to watching yet but TFB did a collaboration with thunder ranch and aero precision.
https://youtu.be/dv59ftIw3lY
Friday and Saturday, i was emailing and applying With all of them
Very highly regarded firearms school
๐ ๐
Colt's reputation has kinda gone down the drain
Over priced bare bones
Just buy a BCM at that point
Their LPKโs are still correct, thatโs what we were talking about
@Artemis >TFB. ๐
It's on my computer at home so i don't have it with me but i had a meme that said something along the lines of
Psa is just as good as colt, so buy a solgw instead
Tfb is okay. They can be a bit clickbaity but usually on dual articles or videos like "why the ak is better than the ar / why the ar is better than the ak"
Not my first source but they're well produced
Been playing around with the eclips on my PVS14 itโs bad ass
Yeah those are awesome
Kinda weird how it seems the best articles are written by random dudes on forums. No big website, just some scientist's post about ballistics and whatnot
You talking about DocGKR?
Well they're one but not them specifically
Whomstdve
Just curious
Just provided some kid a year of clean drinking water by purchasing a 3 pack of life straws.. been reading up on these for the past few hours. Decided they are a good thing to have. Anyone have any experience with them?
I remember when they were designed and featured in popular science. Haven't heard anything bad about them
Does anyone have experience in the AR platform while being cross eye dominant? Iโm right handed all the way but left eye dominant. Iโve grown up shooting right handed weapons with my left hand no problem. I got my first AR about 8 years ago but Iโve only ever done the basic target shooting but I would like to take some carbine courses and get my skills up. Iโm looking for suggestions on ambi controls and techniques on running right handed ARs as a lefty in a tactical sense. I need to get better all around but particularly in speeding up my manipulation of the weapon and transitioning between targets.
I'm right handed and left eye dominant. I just run a red dot or a scope and put the dot/ crosshair on the target with both eyes open and it works fine
It really doesn't affect anything, just train through it and make sure your bullets go where you want
Right on, Iโve always felt strange/slightly uncomfortable with both eyes open through a scope. I have switched to a red dot recently and Iโm getting comfortable with both eyes open left handed. I guess I may need to just work it right handed and get used to it that way
Iโd rather not run lefty if I can avoid it, although it should help me when going off handed
@Artemis how tf do you do that
I'm cross dominate too, but I can't do that, I have to have one eye squinted to get it to focus on my right eye
I'm gonna practice both handed, but wish I could switch eyes lol
Dots are good for people with eye dominance issues. With both eyes open, even if you see 4 dots, just put them on the target. They'll always be on target even if your eyes are lying to you.
If it's irons, I just focus on the front sight post and it turns into one. If it's my holosight, they're both on the same plane so it doesn't matter, and scopes I just focus on the reticle and it turns into one
You just have to focus on the sight hard, then stick it on the fuzzy blob that is your target, and your rounds will go there every time. With red dots you're able to focus on the target which is kinda nice, though it has its drawbacks as its easier for the brain to process putting a sight in the center of a fuzzy blob. We're actually incredibly good at finding the center of things.
An exercise that will help you is called the Brock String
doesn't really matter what order the colors are, as long as they're different colors
you should be able to snap between beads almost instantly
Spare parts bastard.
Ammo for ma berfday.
Weighing a few options, I've found out about Howa. Supposedly built more solidly than Tikka but both are good. What caught my eye is that you can buy Howa barreled actions, and as I'm planning on dropping the action into an LSS gen 2 stock, it seems like it may be the better choice as I'd be saving around $400 by not having a spare Tikka stock
Seems smart, I had looked at doing that at one point
seems the only minor issue is that with howa, since it's a flat bottom action, only MDT polymer magazines will work with the chassis, unlike all the others which use AICS magazines
>.> why is it that after wwii, Japan started making all the stuff that Americans like, but better than most? Whisky, blue jeans, bolt actions?
They didn't want to see the sun up close a third time.
land of the rising sun
but the sun is a mushroom cloud
even fucking steak lol, among the best in the world
I visited japan once, it was interesting. The public technology was a bit more advanced in some places, though practically iron age in more rural areas. Their culture is similar to ours, 70 years ago. Very nationalist, a bit racist and sexist, strong family values, heavy focus on tradition, except more collective minded than individualistic.
Japanese quality owes itself to national pride
Imo
I'd agree there. There's probably a few other factors, but pride is the biggest one
though this also puts tremendous pressure on people and may be the reason why they have one of the highest suicide rates
actually I haven't researched this before. Just looked it up and the statistics are kinda shocking
japan is under the US by a small margin
Russia has double what the US does, and sits at the top of the chart
Ok so my needs are many but id like some advice. Top 3 pistols. I know, revolvers are dependable as fuck. Dont care. Also, just to keep it fun, under 400 and prefer 9mm or 45acp
And Top 3 rifles. Again, gotta challenge you so under 800. I have my ideas but am looking to see if there is any overlap with "professional" advice
Glock
Aero precision
I donโt think revolvers are anything but range toys.
Cant beat the $300 police trade in glocks.
And for $800 you can build a great rifle, buying? I doubt you can get one new for that price.
BCM blemished uppers, I know they'll be scuffed or scratched but anyone had any issues with them? I'm going to rattle can it anyway so I don't care how it looks.
It's going to be the upper on a 556 dmr
That's exactly what I do.
Phew... well, this'll be hard but.
1. Pre-owned Glock 19 or 17
2. Canik TP9
3. Used Beretta 92FS or M9
1. Aero Precision Midlength Rifle (Their nice ones are above 800)
2. PSA AK-47 or Hungarian AK63
3. Del-ton Echo 316
An aero ar15 (built instead of bought to avoid the excise tax) or psa ak (but not their ar15) sound like your best bet. Both are cheap but serviceable.
I only put forth full firearms. Because I just wanted to fight the whole "I dOuBt YoU cAn GeT oNe NeW" comment to the grave.
With that being said... I'm probably just gonna get a BCM 16" for my next rifle.
That's a fair point
But I suggest buying the best upper you can, a quality stripped lower, and a lpk. It's the cheapest way to get quality rigs
Find a rifle you like on armslist, create 20 fake email accounts, and lowball them on different ones until you get the price you want ๐คช
Hahahaha
And end up getting a guy that doesn't even respond.
I only respond to the ones who have their numbers to text. Because no one ever responds to the emails
