The availability of optics that have built in BDCs is pretty good as well for 7.62 x 51.

2020-05-10 12:53:53 UTC

The optic I'll likely be getting is a nightforce shv 4-14x50 f1 in mil dots

2020-05-10 12:54:30 UTC

Took me longer than i expected to find a mildot scope with milradian adjustments that was also under 2k

2020-05-10 13:04:47 UTC

My dad already has nice reloading equipment with 308 dies so I'll be able to make my own when i visit

@Artemis

Exactly. I don’t see the usefulness of mildots if you’re not adjusting in miliradians.

2020-05-10 14:23:20 UTC

Algebra practice if you're into that sort of thing lol.
After reading about mil and moa, I think mil would be more useful to me

2020-05-10 14:33:21 UTC

Given that I'm a broke student, I've also been considering the vortex diamondback tactical 4-16x44 ffp in milrad. I know it won't be as good as the nightforce, but is it good enough?
I'm trying to be economical with my money.

2020-05-10 14:42:55 UTC

I was going to say, broke college student and night force don’t go together

2020-05-10 14:45:27 UTC

@Artemis

Does it adjust in miliradians?

2020-05-10 14:48:16 UTC

Yeah

2020-05-10 14:48:36 UTC

I mean the nf is relatively cheap for nf, at 1.2k

2020-05-10 14:49:22 UTC

If the Vortex adjusts in miliradians as well as uses mil-dots, that to me is a good deal, if it’s cheaper than the NF.

2020-05-10 14:58:01 UTC

Retails at 500, can get it on optics planet for 350. They're supposed to be tough as hell for the price

2020-05-10 14:58:48 UTC

If it adjusts in miliradians (it does) THATS a hell of a deal.

2020-05-10 14:58:53 UTC

At least it's marketed as being really tough, and there's reviews of people using it as a hammer lol

2020-05-10 15:04:53 UTC

well damn

2020-05-10 15:11:07 UTC

Only thing I don't like is that it doesn't have a zero stop

2020-05-10 15:12:13 UTC

It’s a ~$700 difference at least.

2020-05-10 15:12:28 UTC

Though it only costs one weeks work instead of 4 weeks, yeah

2020-05-10 15:13:56 UTC

The rest of the money will be spent training. There's a guy in my state who's a retired sniper and owns a mile long range.
A precision rifle class with them costs $300

2020-05-10 15:15:11 UTC

Super jealous

2020-05-10 15:21:44 UTC

That’s cheap as hell

2020-05-10 15:22:02 UTC

Also don’t forget to torque your scope rings down properly.

2020-05-10 15:22:02 UTC

~17 inch pounds should hold it.

2020-05-10 15:55:01 UTC

@Crye_Salesman curious on your opinion. I know it's a budget option but is it a poor choice? For context, I only bring in around 400 a week.

2020-05-10 16:38:53 UTC

I’ve got a failure to fire every 3-4 rounds.

2020-05-10 16:39:25 UTC

Switched out BCGs and still an issue. Could it be a light hammer strike?

2020-05-10 16:56:43 UTC

What kind of failure?

2020-05-10 16:56:55 UTC

Is it not cycling or not firing at all?

2020-05-10 16:57:31 UTC

Make sure your hammer spring isn't installed backward if it's not firing at all.

2020-05-10 16:57:37 UTC

Anyone hace recommendations on ammo for our type of self defense?
556, in a 16" barrel, run fmj? Hollow? Green tip?

2020-05-10 16:58:02 UTC

75gr boat tail hollow point if your twist rate supports it

2020-05-10 16:58:16 UTC

Or 77, anywhere around there

2020-05-10 16:59:17 UTC

Also open tip match.
The main reason being that 75-77 grain 5.56 bullets fragment incredibly well even at low velocity. They're devastating

2020-05-10 17:00:12 UTC

Hmm, ill have to see if I can find any
Heaviest I got is 62, but most places have very limited stock lol

2020-05-10 17:00:54 UTC
2020-05-10 17:01:14 UTC

Most of it is from a dude with a doctorate

2020-05-10 17:03:42 UTC

If I can't find any, you think hollow or fmj 55grain would work better?

2020-05-10 17:04:12 UTC

Cause I knwere I can get those for sure, anything heavier I haven't seen on the shelf

2020-05-10 17:07:09 UTC

Most stores only carry cheap 55gr plinking ammo and green tip. I'd probably suggest buying either online or at a local business if you can. A lot of online ammo stores have free shipping on the first purchase.

2020-05-10 17:08:15 UTC

Commiefornia can't buy online 🥺
