Getting involved in community organizations like Kiwanis, Rotary, Lions, Elks, Moose, Eagles, Knights of Columbus, Volunteer Firefighters, Trail Conservation clubs, local historical societies etc. beyond gaining influence, building cohesive, anti-fragile community, and being fun, also are usually first stops for people running for State House. I have met several over the years at events my family is involved in.

And you never know where even US Senate critters will appear. Living in Iowa, a few years back, still a leftist, Koch bros shill Joni Ernst interrupted my pizza buffet experience.
