From what I understand, most songs these days are written by computers using a certain type of algorithm, that's designed to appeal to these largest group of people and the lowest common denominator.

They have software that can make your voice sound good.

Yeah, it's called autotune but that's on its way out the door, most of the rap songs I've heard over the past few months don't really use it anymore.
