God, I'm such a miserly ass

2017-12-16 03:18:22 UTC

@Deleted User that's nice.

2017-12-16 15:14:23 UTC

@John O -#7072 you know what they say only people cheaper than joos are WN.

2017-12-16 15:15:07 UTC

I wanted a nice watch for a decade or so and finally busted my ass enough to justify it.

2017-12-16 18:57:02 UTC

Another built for life: Alden Indy boots

Those look great. Have you ever had them resoled?

2017-12-16 19:10:41 UTC

Not yet but you can. Had these resolved about 6 times

Omega makes some pretty fine watches. More modern Rolex watches have some pretty crappy movements for the cost, I've heard of Chinese knockoffs having more reliable movements in them.

2017-12-17 04:27:45 UTC

@John O - Seiko 5 sport is a very good quality watch for the price, and it's more durable then a good amount of high end watches if you're trying to save money while still getting a good watch

2017-12-17 05:05:11 UTC

Nice

2017-12-17 11:11:55 UTC

Black dudes love rolexes. Itโ€™s like when they all started buying cadillacs in the 70s and whites switched to Benz. Then blacks started buying Benz and whites switched to Audi.

2017-12-17 14:00:48 UTC

@nils#8190 Seiko 5s are awesome. You can find some really great ones. Another good watch co is MWC, militarily watch company out of the UK. They make good stuff, not so expensive

2017-12-17 14:47:27 UTC

@Deleted User It's like the rap stars that drive Rolls Royces. You don't drive a Rolls, you get driven in a Rolls

2017-12-17 14:47:34 UTC

Money can't buy class

2017-12-17 14:47:43 UTC

haha well said

2017-12-17 14:47:44 UTC

They just buy the most expensive shit they can

2017-12-17 14:48:06 UTC

They're obsessed with it

2017-12-17 14:48:14 UTC

It rules their entire culture

2017-12-17 14:51:29 UTC

They don't buy the most expensive, they buy things that are recognizably expensive to show they have money, which they usually don't. I've worked with minimum wage thugs who can't afford bridge toll wearing those big "designer" belt buckles to hold up fake $300 True Religion jeans. Everything they buy has obnoxious branding

2017-12-17 14:59:14 UTC

Someone broke into my car, stole my backpack and a jacket I had in the back seat. He left my Iron Rangers sitting there because it didn't have a Nike swoosh and therefore has no value.

2017-12-17 14:59:40 UTC

Those boots cost more than the jacket and contents of the backpack

2017-12-17 14:59:42 UTC

haha those belts can be goofy as hell, too. like someone with a bedazzler got ahold of them

2017-12-17 15:01:19 UTC

Yea they wear those huge ones that are just the brands logo with fake diamonds glued on.

2017-12-17 15:02:16 UTC

๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿป

2017-12-17 15:21:03 UTC

2017-12-17 15:22:02 UTC

can't go back to wearing any other brand, theyre just not the same

They are handy tools. And easy enough to use, you can teach kids basic carpentry skills.

2017-12-20 03:56:30 UTC

@RevStench haha yes. Only the best carpenter autists use these!

I was given a swiss army knife when I was around 5, used it ever since. I use the plastic toothpick more than anything. Browse here to pick the one with the tool assortment you want, then buy on Amazon.

2017-12-25 19:11:37 UTC

Bench made is badass too. They have a policy where u can send them ur knife and then will clean and sharpen it, just have to pay s/h. I have an Adamas auto by them and it is built like a tank. Carried it on me all the time when I was overseas.

2017-12-25 19:13:16 UTC

As for multi-tools Iโ€™ve had multiple expensive leatherman models break on me. Only one that is still working great for me is one of their cheaper base models. That is with daily hard use.

2017-12-26 19:10:05 UTC

My favorite edc knife if a bench made

2017-12-27 00:31:33 UTC

I used to carry a Benchmade but the damn blades are hard, which is good for holding an edge, but you can't pry with them, they snap in half. But I do EDC a Benchmade.
I carry SOG for work. I can hit the spine of the blade with a hammer on a regular basis, it has no damage done to it and it holds an edge really well too.
Kershaw makes good knives too. Morakniv's are really good for smashing with a hammer. Plus they have some chisel ground knives.
Unless you're buying a cheap knife, all knives are pretty good. You don't have to sharpen your knife a lot, stropping is all you need to do, unless you need to reshape the blade.

2017-12-27 00:32:58 UTC

These have become my favorite sharpener. I carry one everyday too, no dull cutting utensils for this guy.

2017-12-27 02:56:13 UTC

@RevStench Damn that SOG is thin as hell

2017-12-27 02:57:01 UTC

I also like to carry a benchmade for EDC, a Griptillian with a modified sheepsfoot blade

2017-12-27 03:19:09 UTC

It's sweet, I think it's called the Boot knife.
I can't remember what my Benchmade is, it's just a 3 1/2 inch folder with that sweet assist Benchmade has. Neither of those are liner locks.

2017-12-27 03:28:42 UTC

@RevStench Nice, yeh the Adamas that i used overseas is a little heavy but it was an auto... after i got back to the states I had removed the safety lock from it (was a pain in the ass to do btw)

2017-12-27 04:20:31 UTC

I've worn that SOG out, the lock is really loose and it's on the spin, but I don't hit often like I thought I would. I guess you push on the jimping more than the handle. So I feel safe giving it hell. Haha
Why did you remove the safty?

2017-12-27 14:18:30 UTC

@RevStench I removed it because it seemed pretty unnecessary because of the stiffness of the deploy mechanism AND because the safety was a part of a piece in the spine of the knife that (when dropped, which I did multiple times) caused the blade edge to be marred (which needed to be sharpened out mutiple times)

2017-12-27 17:08:59 UTC

Oh ok, I thought damn bro you trying to cut off a finger haha.
Do you use a stone to reshape and sharpen? @lonewolf19d

2017-12-27 23:04:51 UTC

@RevStench I actually used a cheap portable knife file, kind that has a rough and smooth side. It got the job done, but there was a guy in our platoon who had a nice sharpening system that would get knives SUPER sharp

2017-12-27 23:22:06 UTC
2017-12-27 23:27:40 UTC

@RevStench Looked very similar

2017-12-27 23:41:28 UTC

Oh word. Pretty much the same thing without the stand. I almost bought something like that, then I saw that Sharpens Best sharpener, dude turned a butter knife into a razor in less that 10 minutes. But it's a field sharpener and shaper. So if you were lost and lost your knife, you can turn any piece of thin metal into a knife. And I carry it on my key chain, so I always have a sharpener on me. Might have to look into a system like that for home.

2017-12-27 23:58:35 UTC

@RevStench So u own one of those Sharpens Best? I was watching that guys videos on Youtube seems pretty legit

2017-12-31 06:19:37 UTC

@lonewolf19d hey sorry, I didn't see this. But yeah I bought the 4 pack of sharpeners. They are great. Everything I own that cuts is super sharp. I highly recommend them.

2017-12-31 06:21:51 UTC

Once you figure out the right pressure to use it's just like using a stone. I never use the V, only for reshaping. Most of the time it only takes a few light brushes and I have a soild cutting edge.

2017-12-31 06:23:56 UTC

I use that one a lot

I use Klein just because it's an industry standard. It's what I've been using since day 1, so it's what I use now

I feel you bro. I used to use Klein but times are changing haha. They feel really good in your hand too

Any suggestions for a laptop to run Linux on? I donโ€™t need that much power since I donโ€™t do gaming or video editing. My 8 old Toshiba is dead because I canโ€™t find a decent charger.

2018-01-18 05:44:42 UTC

I don't know but I'd be very interested to know the answer

2018-01-18 17:16:16 UTC

@Deleted User Dell Latitude or Dell Inspiron. Lenovo is also good, but they're Chinese. Avoid the brands with lower market share like Toshiba, Acer, etc. Dell, HP, and Lenovo are the 3 dominant laptop manufacturers and I'm aware of Dell and Lenovo being common for Linux.

2018-01-19 14:47:15 UTC

@Deleted User A lot of people get a ThinkPad for linux. Personally, I'd get a Dell XPS these days, but they're more expensive for sure

2018-01-19 14:52:09 UTC

Dell will sell their laptops with linux baked in already (which is a great service I think). Guaranteeing that the hardware is compatible is awesome.

See these results for Ubuntu between 500 and 800 http://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/dell-laptops-and-notebooks/sc/laptops/inspiron-laptops-netbooks?appliedRefinements=7692,6119

2018-01-19 17:14:53 UTC

Dell is in Texas, Lenovo is in China. Buy Dell.

2018-01-19 17:19:11 UTC

Dell makes such awful products tho

2018-01-19 17:19:19 UTC

Otherwise I would love to

2018-01-19 17:19:59 UTC

Their computers feel so cheap

2018-01-19 17:35:11 UTC

Doesnโ€™t Dell echo? Either way I will look into it

2018-01-19 21:21:42 UTC

I didn't know Dell was a jew

2018-01-19 21:22:10 UTC

At least they hire Americans. Lenovo is closer to 100% chinese.

2018-01-19 21:22:49 UTC

HP is American too, but they're not as Linux friendly, to my understanding.

Any advice on home buying? Looking at foreclosured homes in my area.

2018-03-19 21:16:29 UTC

Thats the start

2018-03-19 21:16:38 UTC

Always buy with equity in it

2018-03-19 21:16:44 UTC

Ie under market value.

2018-03-19 21:17:27 UTC

Then check the comparisons in the neighbor hood so you kno how much $$ you can put in it w/out losing

2018-03-19 21:19:42 UTC

There's an auction listing for 11k. It's been on the market for about 700 days with houses in the area listed for 157k.

2018-03-19 21:28:50 UTC

Hey if post pics of the house I can eye ball it for you, and if I see problems visually, I can explain what I'm looking at and why.

2018-03-19 21:30:37 UTC

Thanks so much! There's a couple listings I'm considering. Would you mind if I DM you the links in a bit?
