For practical, durable and quality made products that are made to last.

2017-12-14 06:31:18 UTC

does it have to be durable for life or just really super durable and good quality?

2017-12-14 06:32:15 UTC

Both can fit, depending on the item

2017-12-14 06:32:35 UTC

Some items can't really last *for life*, but like you said super durable and good quality is good

2017-12-14 06:35:03 UTC

Sometimes you are looking for tools that *need* to be reliable. Sometimes you are looking for quality things because, hey, they're often better and last longer, and you can wind up saving money in the long run by getting a good quality item rather than purchasing multiple poor quality items.

2017-12-14 06:38:19 UTC

well then i'll make the first post: get ahold of a plash palatka. extremely durable, has many uses (tarp, tent, sack, hoodie, ect), is waterproof, best thing you can bring along for lightweight camping. just make sure it was waxed first.

2017-12-14 06:39:42 UTC

~$35 and you can find it on ebay

2017-12-14 10:59:24 UTC

I recommend Nutnfancy on youtube for all reviews

2017-12-14 14:41:28 UTC

Lolol

2017-12-14 18:18:57 UTC

yall got any modern brand tool suggestions?
most stuff today is plastic and not reliable like an old black and decker

2017-12-14 19:14:05 UTC

For outdoor power tools you won't beat Stihl.

2017-12-14 19:14:20 UTC

Milwaukee is really good for other stuff if you can afford it

2017-12-14 19:54:32 UTC

DeWalt is cheaper and almost as good quality. Good for hobbyists and home owners

2017-12-14 19:55:34 UTC

Craftsman is always good, but apparently they won't be honoring their warranty soon.

2017-12-14 19:55:42 UTC

Don't take my word on that

2017-12-14 19:56:20 UTC

I use Klein screwdrivers

2017-12-14 21:42:16 UTC

ive never worked with any Stihl tools but ive heard good things

2017-12-14 21:42:41 UTC

craftsman has gone down in quality.... lots of plastic now

2017-12-14 21:42:56 UTC

old craftsman tools are the tits

2017-12-14 21:43:38 UTC

ive only had good experiences with dewalt, but am open to trying a new brand

2017-12-14 22:09:26 UTC

Milwaukee tools all day everyday! I stand by Milwaukee, my only choice. Hand tools and power

2017-12-14 22:10:45 UTC

Milwaukee lineman pliers stomp the shit out of Kline tools. Buy them for life and they are cheaper in price by about 20 bucks

2017-12-14 22:13:08 UTC

Hammers Eastwing straight claw. Tack hammers Eastwing as well.

2017-12-14 22:23:31 UTC

fuck its nice talkin about tools when youre surrounded by liberal cucks and fags

2017-12-14 22:25:15 UTC

Never had a problem with Ridgid. But pros in HVAC have always sworn by DeWalt

2017-12-14 22:25:16 UTC

both of my grandpas' tools still hold up better than anything new

2017-12-14 22:25:53 UTC

@Goose Jewish tool cucking

2017-12-14 22:26:06 UTC

lol wut?

2017-12-14 22:26:29 UTC

@Goose same here I work for a 67 year old who has 40+ year old tools of his own, and he also has tools we use that his dad used.

2017-12-14 22:26:50 UTC

@RevStench dude thats awesome!

2017-12-14 22:27:11 UTC

old drill sets fetch a pretty penny at auctions nowadays

2017-12-14 22:28:14 UTC

We do historic preservation so it makes sense we still use old tools.
I worked around an electrician who used an old wooden tool box, it was sweet.

2017-12-14 22:30:15 UTC

Old hand planes are 100 times better than the "best" one made these days. New ones are cheesy and cheap feeling.

2017-12-14 22:34:51 UTC

Eastwing makes the best hammers

2017-12-14 22:35:15 UTC

@Goose All my Craftsman wrenches are 100% steel

2017-12-14 22:35:44 UTC

@RevStench nice thats what i grew up doing in NOLA

2017-12-14 22:39:25 UTC

Bro, I bought them only a few years ago

2017-12-14 22:49:32 UTC

@John O - do you work in utilities?

2017-12-14 22:50:22 UTC

No

2017-12-14 22:50:33 UTC

Commercial electrical

2017-12-14 22:51:33 UTC

Oh ok. I noticed some of the stuff you're around and was curious.

2017-12-14 22:52:56 UTC

Actually I watched some guys lay underground power lines and I was like I wonder if that's the kind of work Johno does.

2017-12-14 22:53:07 UTC

Nope

2017-12-14 23:00:29 UTC

I would like to suggest a tape measure, if you don't already have a preference.
Milwaukee so sweet. I dropped this one 3 stories on to pavement and it didn't screw it up, I had the tape locked about 48in out. One of the magnets broke out but no big deal.

2017-12-14 23:01:55 UTC

Very nice tape.

2017-12-14 23:02:08 UTC

We need a rating system

2017-12-14 23:13:03 UTC

While I'm at it๐Ÿ˜‚ , anyone use impact guns everyday? I broke my Milwaukee a few months ago so I've been using my hammer/clutch drill for everything. It's to much work haha.
The cheapest tool only Milwaukee I can buy is like $125 on ebay. A brand new DeWalt is $99 everyday at Lowe's with I believe 2 batteries. Anyone use the shit out of one of the 20volt DeWalts? Impact.

2017-12-14 23:16:11 UTC

I do

2017-12-14 23:16:22 UTC

Had it for 5 years, never a problem

2017-12-14 23:16:48 UTC

Actually, I dropped it from 4 stories last year. I encountered a small problem

2017-12-14 23:22:57 UTC

Right on. I dropped a Makita from just above 3 stories it survived, but it didn't have the power my Milwaukee had.

Pretty good battery life? And do the batteries charge pretty quick, like a half hour or so? I appreciate it.

2017-12-14 23:25:05 UTC

Yeah, the 3ah battery lasts for 2 days for me. Our work load is probably different, though. I'd say it would last 3/4 of a day doing carpentry. Batteries charge in an hour

2017-12-14 23:25:18 UTC

Sorry, 4 ah

2017-12-14 23:29:50 UTC

That's still good. I drive a lot of screws but only for a few hours, probably 3ish. I use a lot of nail guns. I got around a day out of mine, depending on how much it was used.
Cool, thanks bro. I think I'm going to diversify my tools haha.

2017-12-14 23:49:22 UTC

Having to deal with 2 different sets of batteries is a pain in the ass

2017-12-14 23:58:50 UTC

@RevStench I use impacts daily. Ingersoll Rand is also a good brand.

2017-12-15 00:00:04 UTC

I don't use that hammer drill often if I don't have to. I still use 2 12volt batteries and 2 18 volt. So the DeWalt is still going to save me money.
@DCViking for driving screws?

2017-12-15 00:01:57 UTC

@RevStench No I use them on nuts & bolts.

2017-12-15 00:04:46 UTC

Word, but I'll keep that in mind when I have to buy a new one of those impacts, but I'm looking for one of the battery operated screw impacts. They should have a different name.haha

2017-12-15 04:18:08 UTC

I use dewalt but my dad uses makita and has been for a couple decades now and they're still going strong.

2017-12-15 16:33:39 UTC

DeWalt
Milwaukee
Porter Cable
Bosch

Are some decent power hand tools. Whether they last kinda depends on what tool it is. Iโ€™ve had 6 or 7 dewalt drills/screw guns that have burnt up on me but I like their design so I keep buying em.

Stanley and Johnson make decent levels, tapes, speed squares whatever

2017-12-15 16:35:02 UTC

Ironically enough Skill Saw makes great circular saws. Theyโ€™re cheap weekend warrior brand but theyโ€™ve been doing it so long they make a decent saw. They also make high production commercial saws too

2017-12-15 16:37:26 UTC

@RevStench What kinda Nd of nail guns you use for finish nailing? I really like my Senco pin nailer for trimming stuff. Super lightweight. I used to use porter cable but moved on

2017-12-15 17:05:57 UTC

Bosch is top tier

2017-12-15 17:17:53 UTC

@Deleted User I use semco brad finish gun and a senco and porter cable gun for 16 penny.
Love them both.

2017-12-15 17:19:09 UTC

@John O - I have one of those heated Bosch jackets, it's amazing. The battery lasts about 6 hours of continual use.

2017-12-15 17:19:58 UTC

@Deleted User I use Sawnson speed squares and framing squares.

2017-12-15 17:22:36 UTC

Battery powered circular saws are dangerous in my opinion. They don't have enough power and they kick back a lot. Good way to cut off fingers.

2017-12-15 17:23:31 UTC

I use a DeWalt battery operated nail gun for brads, it's awesome for finish work.

2017-12-15 17:25:51 UTC

@RevStench That reminds me of an old comic from the New Yorker with a guy who wrapped himself up in an electric fence for the winter

2017-12-15 17:26:16 UTC

Yeah Swanson is great. Battery powered circ saws suck

2017-12-15 17:26:35 UTC

I like worm drives but donโ€™t have one.

2017-12-15 18:03:50 UTC

My ryobi hammer drill caught on fire while trying to mix concrete with it

2017-12-15 20:41:18 UTC

Snow and Neally make a great wood axe

2017-12-15 22:17:50 UTC

@John O - haha that's awesome. But that coat is so nice.
@Deleted User I use a left handed worm drive saw, it's heavy ๐Ÿ˜‚ my only complaint.

2017-12-15 22:19:05 UTC

@Deleted User I don't use an ax a whole lot, but what makes those axes so good? Like why those over the competition?

2017-12-15 22:55:51 UTC

Sturdy, sharpens easily, light for its strength, USA made, pretty affordable

2017-12-15 22:56:01 UTC
2017-12-15 22:58:49 UTC

Oh cool. Thanks for the info man. I've never thought about what makes an ax one worth having.

2017-12-16 02:19:51 UTC

Ok not trying to show off here but I got myself a really nice watch Iโ€™ll hopefully have for life then leave it to my son

2017-12-16 02:27:53 UTC

@Deleted User How much was it? What materials is it made from?

2017-12-16 02:28:18 UTC

Steel not platinum ๐Ÿ˜€

2017-12-16 02:28:37 UTC

Letโ€™s just say I could have bought a used car

2017-12-16 02:29:26 UTC

So $300?

2017-12-16 02:29:33 UTC

Haha

2017-12-16 02:29:59 UTC

Nice looking watch

2017-12-16 02:30:05 UTC

Iโ€™m probably about 20 years older than most people on this server

2017-12-16 02:30:12 UTC
2017-12-16 02:31:32 UTC

Omegas are incredible watches that last forever and not as finicky as a Rolex or some of the other luxury brands

2017-12-16 02:31:55 UTC

Just not sure how much of that money went to schlomo

2017-12-16 02:33:05 UTC

I was thinking of getting a good watch

2017-12-16 02:33:14 UTC

I want to get some nice jewelry

2017-12-16 02:33:45 UTC

Better to save my money, though, I have big plans and need every penny for it
