they've probably never heard of a reasonable counter argument
Im not saying dont debate them or dont let them speak
to their beliefs
What i am saying is dont let them into the party
Yeah
Shed brought up a good point too, history's lessons are often lost in translation
What do you guys think about Nancy Pelosi?
The point of history is to provide a perspective, to show how things react and how outside forces keep working. The lesson from history classes should be that there is a grand game being played and everyone is an essential part of it, regardless of whether they realize it or not.
Yes
Agree with her one some things and disagree with her on others
For example I am strongly in favor of allowing confederate monuments to stand because of how well the US held itself together post civil war
same, but I completely despise her because of how much money she's gotten off big corporations
Those monuments are a part of culture/history of the south and they are as a american as it gets
policy wise, some things I agree but some things I disagree on
For better or worse those people fought and died for what they thought would be a better future. The soldiers and leaders deserve to be honored and remembered.
^
Though I think that such a truth should not make people forget one of the main causes for the civil war
People who say that the war was about slavery are correct. People who say that the war was about states rights are correct too.
The war was a question: Should the federal government in the US should have enough power to completely ruin the economy of a large portion of the country?
Yeah, I agree, maybe war was necessary; but they commited some atrocities in the name of the federal government that left
the south in ruin
Indeed, which is why the reconstruction was so vital that the North not occupy the south, but help them rebuild and go hands off as much as possible.
There are many people who think that the Union should have occupied the south and forced them to change their ways.
There should have been an operation to revitalise the southern economy
The south being left in ruin leads to a lot of people becoming far right, it was foolish of the north to have banned slavery, ruin the south and then not try fix the southern economy
It leads to political divide
There was no option for most of the south to be revitalized
They were based entirely around slave agricultural cash crops with very little industry or natural resources to go with it
Yeah, but many countries have been reformed drasticaly
I think if the federal government had spent money on building industry there
it would not have been as bad
Whatever they would have built wouldve been overshadowed by the northern version as they had been operating longer doing the same tasks
Not if they spent a long time constantly investing in southern industry
but that would be quite a complex thing to do
Indeed and its never as simple as it sounds.
I mean it's possible, it's just that it'd be very difficult and I mean very
The issue is that theres nothing to improve and no missing industry
Bro, have you ever heard of Ireland or Singapore?
Came from nothing, almsot no natural resources (Ireland only has some fish)
>Singapore
>no natural resources
It does have almost none though
They import most of their stuff
It's just that they are good with what little they have, same as Ireland
Besides the circumstances are different
Ye I just meant in general
there's got to be a way
Singapore was being industrialized at a point where foreigners were willing to invest heavily in industry
That feeling didnt exist until after world war two. Prior to that all nations wanted as much domestic industry as possible.
Yeah that is a good point I probably should have thought of
Ill have to study Ireland a bit more before i understand how they achieved their current status
Most of my studies has been on the post world war two history of Asian countires
I know a lot about Ireland, It gained its riches from good trade relations, low corporate tax making tons of beef then spent the money gained on educating people and thus also leading in the pharmaceutical industry. Summed up very simplisticly and shortly
Not saying it couldn't be done, but I don't think that what worked for Ireland would be entirely relevant to what could work for the American south. Just Texas alone is 10 times the size of Ireland and a thousand times bigger than Singapore
Yeah I get what you mean, when it comes to industralisation obv the larger the harder
it is to do
Did you know that the legend of Saint Patrick was about the man who drove the original black inhabitants out of Ireland
Ireland was originally an afro-centric colony thats why they are so good at making music
OK?

I'm fairly certain that's wrong, you got a source on that? From what I know it's about him driving the druids from Ireland and converting the people to Catholicism since he believed that the druids were "snakes" as in symbols of evil/charlatans
Source: I'm irish
Have fun ๐

Those kind of theories quite fascinating me, where you look at author you cannot be sure how much of it its trolling and how much is actually beliving that shit.
Really? That's strange, I've never heard of the Twa people before and my granddad is very into his Irish history, so it's just a little surprising to me.
Yeah, AskHistorians is saying the Twa people being from Ireland was a myth invented around the 1800s-1900s
Website you linked is batshit insane, tho, omg
"Black people celebrating because of genetic memory" Nah, it's an excuse for all people everywhere to get drunk because the bars are full and party-hard, there's also parades and public drunkenness is pretty much ignored
Clearly the Irish just throw the best parties ๐
But yeah all jokes aside the afroperspectives thing is hokey
Leprechauns known for being dwarf-like in size - article names a height that is barely smaller than the average of the time
So what if the leprechauns are just immortal irish men hmm <:TimThink:482277772497125378>
Shit, we've been caught
you know how old people seem to get a bit shorter as time goes on?
what happens if you never die.
you just inverse grow
I've been thinking recently about the pros of a constituional monarchy. I think there is untapped potential that is overlooked in a constitutional monarchy. I'm not saying that one should be put in power, just that it has some benefits.
The main reason I was thinking about this is, if someone spent 20 years being taught to lead a nation it would be a great benefit. Especially, if the person elected into monarchy was a highly qualified individual
who could teach their offspring
/heir
Itโs not a merit based system though. Some heirs just arenโt fit to lead.
I mean tbh, if the king had multiple heirs
he dedicated over two decades teaching
it might be good
teaching how to manipulate the people into blinding following you for your own selfish gains? oh yeah, brilliant.
you know what might also be a good idea? Autocrats school 101, hosted by hillary clinton.
No I mean, if the constituion made it illegal for the king/queen to porfit from it
and the king/queen also had to teach morals and ethics
to their heirs
They profit from it by default, they have most of the power.
Or the are just a figure head.
@Timcast M hey i watched your video about abortion where you compared a baby to a vampire and I was thinking does this mean youโd be ok with me removing money given to people on welfare since they are sapping my life in a slightly different but comparable way only i never did anything that would lead them to suck out my life
Figured this was a better place
Then you also need to get rid of the benefits a king would get. Some are in it for the power and nothing else.
removing a baby from your body is different from shooting someone in the head
providing welfare to a person is different from forcing a person to provide their being to another
the blood of a woman is not the same as handing someone a sandwich
i dont like abortion and I dont think it should be used as contraception
but Im more worried about a government that can mandate you provide your body to another
Hi there Tim! Been watching here and there for a while, and I have a thesis I would like torn to the ground if at all possible.
It's presented under the name CanadianDaves on your Trump of Brazil assassination attempt vid.
