Bio-engineering is not gonna be that easy to master with the extreme diversity and other bullshit. I'd say it will take at least 500 years if we don't find something like CRISPR but a lot faster and DNA is still pretty fucking complicated. The amount of work that you'd have to go with to produce an animal that would be more viable than a car is would be astronomical.
