@Kaladin I overreacted, my apologies. I misunderstood what you said for an attack on the Catholic Church. The church has certainly had a bad light put upon it, and I'm sad that there were so many priests doing these things. I take solace in the fact that most are not this way, but I pray that those who do can change.
@DannyNC1 a few things. You say "as pedophilia is reason enough not to vote for biden". Let's not forget that the same argument has been applied to trump, and that he has had sexual abuse cases as well.
Now, it can logicly follow that if priests must be celibate that, as human beings, they still desire sex and seek that in repulsive ways. As to the wikipedia article, 1) let's not forget it's wikipedia, and 2) it is no reason to deny the Catholic Church. This is the same reasoning liberals apply to all policer officers being bad and racist. Additionally, as a Catholic, we don't rely on just the Bible, we rely on tradition and current papal teaching as well. The Bible also doesn't say "don't support trans rights" or " be pro-life".
Also, what is your historical source that the papacy began in 606, and how does it follow that celibacy leads to sexual perversion? Otherwise, anyone not in a sexual relationship would be tempted toward sodomy.
@DannyNC1 what I meant with Wikipedia is that I wouldn't cite it as a main or first source, simply because it can be changed. It's good for getting information about something to start out with, but not to use as definitive fact. The church would "harbor" pedophiles in the sense that there are pedophilic clergymen unbeknownst to higher powers. I am not permissive in any way. As to tradition, it almost has equal footing with the bible. The church wrote the bible, the bible didn't write the church. The Bible is all that we need, but that requires interpretation. That's where Papal teaching comes in. Protecting climate change, which I don't believe to be a big problem. Is still not "leftist". He's simply saying we should defend God's creation.
I was defending transgenderism or saying that trans rights is a thing, it is garbage. I wouldn't say that the passage you quoted means the Bible is pro-life, I would say it means that forced premature birth is wrong.
Ah, so in 606 the Emperor established the Pope. However, the church rejects the secular appointment and invest of power in the church. Before that, the first Pope was Peter and we can trace back all the popes since him.
Priests should be withholding themselves from desires and concentrate on the Lord, no matter how difficult it is. It doesn't matter how rare it is, it's the right thing to do. We can't blame the just laws of the system for the wrongdoings of the people who chose to do them.
> Lol, did someone say catholics aren't christians? What does that make us. We got the bible from the catholics, it was them getting thrown to the lions for defending the faith so we can bitch about it in 2020. They brought us what we have today. We showed up fifteen hundred years later.
Thank you!
You say they were required to become celibate. Can you cite where you got this information from?
I'm done with this. Clearly your opinion will not change, nor will mine. Your beliefs seem to come from the 19th century book Catholicism, which is frankly ridiculous with no historical basis.
Good day
I also have other things to do @DannyNC1 😄
^
Lmao
wtf is wrong with them
> anyone else in the server Roman Catholic or is it just me?
@Innocentsmith S.C.A ayyy homie
> @MKSmash what do you guys believe also why is jesus's mother Mary so important when she was just a human god decided to do a miracle through?
@Conminer47 we respect mary because she was born cleansed of original sin
And as simple as it, she's the mother of God. I think that deserves a lot of respect
We don't praise her like Jesus though, which is an important difference. We honor Mary because of her position as sinless mother of God. We worship Jesus
What is your religion? @Conminer47
Mary was concieved sinless, and without Original Sin, because she was chosen by God to be the physical mother to his son
Because of how important she is, we hold her as the highest of the Saints
In confession, God acts through the priest to forgive sins
Ah, I see. The priest does a lot more than just preach in Roman Catholicism
@Conminer47 what do you believe about Mary?
Mary may have made mistakes, but not sins. She was perfect in that she was sinless. Only Jesus was enough to satisfy humanity, because He was sent by His Father for that purpose.
@DeButcher you are partially correct. All saints besides Mary sinned at some point or another.
Corny, I find that last paragraph so ridiculous I have no idea what to say
If you could tell me what these "norse winter traditions" are, that would be helpful
Once again, WE DO NOT WORSHIP MARY. We respect her for what she is and has done, she is no "mother goddess figure".
This is where we have to be careful with wording. We pray to her for intercession on her behalf to God
🙄 of course omnipotence doesn't have its limits, and He sure doesn't struggle with prayers. In fact, asking Mary to intercess isn't necessary at all for praying to God. If you mean praying to Mary in reference to the Hail Mary prayer, that is just to honor her.
Look at Catholic answers, they can help a lot with understanding the Faith.
We honor her because SHE IS THE FCKING MOTHER OF GOD
If that's not good enough, idk what is
> Fuck saints, all my homies realize God is the One and capable of all Miracles and Graces directly and absolutely
@corny🌽🌽 this is ridiculous, the apostles performed miracles
Yes
We honor scripture and tradition
Mmm how so?
....
Yes
People screw up
Accept it
This is like saying defund the police because of a few bad cops
Nope
Inaccurate
Just not the doctrine
I don't see how this applies. We only worship God(/Jesus/Holy Spirit)
> >says the people who pray to saints, popes, confession stands, and other intercessant fakes
We do this for their help
Prayer does not equal worship
All we are doing is asking them to pray for us
Say you're going through difficult times and you ask your relative to pray for you. You're doing the same with praying to saints, in asking them to pray to God for you.
Have you never asked for someone to pray for you?
Anyway, nice conversation
^
I'm assuming here. Maybe there's saints that didn't sin but I doubt it.
However, most saints came after the bible.
All we are doing is asking saints to pray for us.
I don't know how the Bible says that's wrong
Saints are just people who are in heaven
By living holy lives
What would you like me to explain more? How do they become officially recognized as saints by the church?
I don't remember the specific criteria, but I believe they have to have miracles attributed to them and some other things
Let me see what I can find
"The person must show Christian virtues, at least to an ordinary extent, before and after offering their life. They must have a 'reputation for holiness'at least after their death. They must have performed a miracle. This is a major difference from the 'martyrdom'category, which does not require a miracle."
Found that online
Eh, I still like him
He makes good music
> Well in the bible, Saints is anyone who has a living relationship with God through his mercy and grace expressed in the death of the Lord Jesus Christ. @MKSmash
@DeButcher a saint has to be dead. Where did you find/learn this?
It doesn't
Not much is said about saints in the bible, and the rules for establishing saints were developed over time
What do you mean?
Who established the rules for sainthood?
Catholicism didn't add to Christianity, christianity added to Catholicism 😂
I don't know who did the rules, I just know official canonizations began in the 10th century
What did they add
Oh now I see what you mean
Idk
I guess to honor holy people that have helped the church
What's the problem with adding a system to honor then
What's the problem with adding a system to honor then
Sure
But humans are pretty important things
Well
We're created in the image and likeness of God
We are his most important creation, made for glorifying him
They can do just as much as my best friend or brother can
We can just appeal to God
Nope, they still can even though they are physically dead
Like I said, very little about Saints in the Bible
This is something Tradition has to handle
Sure, but we need tradition to interpret the Bible. This is the most stark difference between Protestant and Catholic: we give more credence to tradition.
It also doesn't say abortion is wrong in the Bible, but we know that to still be wrong
