Catholicism didn't add to Christianity, christianity added to Catholicism 😂
I don't know who did the rules, I just know official canonizations began in the 10th century
I meant add things in the religion
What did they add
> It doesn't
> Not much is said about saints in the bible, and the rules for establishing saints were developed over time
@MKSmash
Oh now I see what you mean
Idk
I guess to honor holy people that have helped the church
What's the problem with adding a system to honor then
What's the problem with adding a system to honor then
Nothing wrong to respecting saints. But yall tend to glorify these people
After all they are just humans
Sure
But humans are pretty important things
Eh no, only God is important
Well
We're created in the image and likeness of God
We are his most important creation, made for glorifying him
And earlier you talked about praying to saints. Just a heads they cant do anything to help your cause.
Read about Rich man and Lazarus
They can do just as much as my best friend or brother can
We can just appeal to God
Only people that living atm
Nope, they still can even though they are physically dead
Proof from the bible?
Tradition? Your statement is powerful. Saying tradition is not a good source. If its not in the bible then dont include it.
Bible is important than tradition
Sure, but we need tradition to interpret the Bible. This is the most stark difference between Protestant and Catholic: we give more credence to tradition.
It also doesn't say abortion is wrong in the Bible, but we know that to still be wrong
What the difference between Catholic and Jews during Jesus time then?
Both hold major importance to tradition
Jesus came to destroy Jewish tradition and insteas told to focus on the relationship with God.
So Bible is more important than tradition
> What the difference between Catholic and Jews during Jesus time then?
@DeButcher Not much
The Apostles still considered themselves Jews, and just followed Jesus' teaching
Wait so
You're saying Bible is more important because Jesus came to destroy Jewish culture, and because Jewish culture emphasized tradition, tradition is less important?
Just trying to understand where you're coming from
Yes they focus on tradition and laws and the pharisee made the life of Jews bad.
They adding things to the Torah and complicated it
I wouldn't say that Catholicism and Judaism are similar to compare, even though Christianity is certainly rooted in Judaism
Focus on what's important. Relationship with Christ
> I wouldn't say that Catholicism and Judaism are similar to compare, even though Christianity is certainly rooted in Judaism
@MKSmash
Im just talking bout the tradition aspect
I know, but you're connecting them with one thin strand (tradition); I don't find your claim very strong that tradition isn't as important because it is one of the things we have in common with Judaism
Tradition cant do you any good. Following it wont take you heaven. Following the word of God for sure will. So i urge you to read the bible. Bible is sufficient. It has all the things we need.
You're right, it does; however, it requires tradition to adequately interpret and "use" the Bible
Could you give an example where tradition is need to explain the bible.
