it's not as disgusting as it sounds

2019-02-21 21:20:56 UTC

it's really hard to explain but it intuitively makes sense if you speak the language, trust me

2019-02-21 21:21:04 UTC

How does that even work

2019-02-21 21:21:14 UTC

Like

2019-02-21 21:21:17 UTC

What’s an example

2019-02-21 21:21:21 UTC

this is an example

2019-02-21 21:22:07 UTC

it's used to express visibility, so, like, there's literally no context where it would be useful to say "I am being visible"

2019-02-21 21:22:31 UTC

that would just sound cringy and weird

2019-02-21 21:23:22 UTC

@ophiuchus I can try to explain it better if you want

2019-02-21 21:24:19 UTC

actually let's take this to the language channel on Identity Vdmvrtia

2019-02-21 21:25:17 UTC

Haha!

2019-02-21 21:27:23 UTC

verbs are dumb

2019-02-21 21:27:30 UTC

nouns and prepositions only

2019-02-21 21:27:52 UTC

well and the identity verb I guess is/are

2019-02-21 21:28:28 UTC

novns

2019-02-21 21:30:07 UTC

It's fitting that English is the language of America really because it's a hybrid of so many European languages just as Americans are mostly Euromutts

2019-02-21 21:30:28 UTC

hmm

2019-02-21 21:30:36 UTC

I think that applies to any language in a sense

2019-02-21 21:30:51 UTC

but maybe English in particular?

2019-02-21 21:36:09 UTC

Yes English has a lot of influence from Latin to Viking languages to Saxon to French all mixed in with the base language.

2019-02-21 21:36:22 UTC

The English Isles have traded hands many times.

2019-02-21 21:36:41 UTC

next arabic

2019-02-21 21:36:42 UTC

Looks like it's trading hands again soon... <:sad:366743316475281408>

This won't even be an invasive force like the past, they are handing over their country to outsiders this time.

2019-02-21 21:38:15 UTC

You know, I actually read a bit about Chinese grammar recently, and it seems like Weihan Zhang has a pretty good understanding of it. He uses english words with chinese syntax

2019-02-21 21:38:35 UTC

I’m still like 95% sure he’s actually a white guy though

2019-02-21 21:38:54 UTC

English always struck me as a germanic language desperately wanting to be a Romance one.

2019-02-21 21:40:29 UTC

okay guys I just wrote an effort post about verbs only having an infinitive

2019-02-21 21:40:38 UTC

DM me to join Slav server and read it

2019-02-21 21:43:45 UTC

>effort posting about slavic verb conjugations
I wonder what black twitter is up to?

2019-02-21 21:44:57 UTC

Rioting for Smollett

2019-02-21 21:45:12 UTC

Something something racism

2019-02-21 21:46:17 UTC

English has a huge amount of romance influence- mostly from Normal French but also some directly from Latin

2019-02-21 21:46:20 UTC

@Perihelion - CA Probably the same thing. They're wondering what we're up to. They probably think we're talking about hating minorities or not seasoning chicken or something, but really we're debating grammar.

2019-02-21 21:46:46 UTC

I guess they'd be partially correct, I am indeed not seasoning chicken at the moment.

2019-02-21 21:47:45 UTC

That Allsup video made me laugh today. Imagine a latinx getting offended by the confederate flag.

2019-02-21 21:48:31 UTC

And then calling whites fragile.

2019-02-21 21:51:38 UTC

Who's mans is this?
