Apparently the "Ugandan Knuckles" meme is now being deemed racist by Polygon.
It's an older meme, but it checks out.
The frustrating thing in the US is that the Dems *can* win, but they're bought out and paid for by the same monied interest groups and lobbyists that many on the right are in the pocket of. So, in essence, they're basically mirrors of each other.
Even in terms of just stating what they (should) be for, such as single-payer healthcare and such. While I don't agree with him on everything, there is a reason Bernie is the most popular politician in the US right now.
Like, I wish the Dems would go back into Trump's twitter history and point out the... I think it was *five* times Trump praised single-payer healthcare? They could actually corner him into a position to actually maybe get it done, or make him out to be a liar about that, but in order to do that they themselves would want to have single-payer healthcare, as well.
I don't think Obamacare even is single-payer, at least not in the same way that it single-payer exists in every other modern western nation.
Or even any kind of socialized healthcare, for that matter.
Yeah, we have medicare, but that only applies to certain people, if I remember.
I don't make enough money to afford healthcare in the US, myself, but at least now I'm no longer in danger of being fined for not being able to afford it. lol
"Can't afford healthcare? We'll just fine you and make you pay us money that you don't have."
Here's to hoping I don't get seriously ill or have a serious accident, or else I'll get slapped with a medical bill I'll never be able to pay off. lol
Sorry, didn't mean for that to turn into the mini rant that it did.
Yet, will probably still be brought up with the mindset that he is being oppressed.
I'm still figuring out what I like to use and not, but have overall cut out pretty much anything google related except for YouTube and Hangouts.
Now, if only we could solve the homeless issue...
Well, on top of that, those jobs are also becoming more and more automated.
And the US was actually putting more of an effort into it more than other countries were.
Like, making sure some of the money didn't just... disappear?
Wind is alright, though people keep going on about 'da birbs doe.'
I guess birds kept running into the turbines or something?
"It's fine bruh, just build like a giant battery bank or something." <:hmkGrin:284219474440355840>
Just tell the government we found the possibility of there being oil on the moon.
Sorry, that was a bad joke on my part. I wasn't even trying. lol
Well, he certainly got his gorilla channel up quick, didn't he? <:Kappa:327142715592540171>
Well, walls are not entirely ineffective, or else they wouldn't have been used so much in history.
This is why I'm not discussing it all that much.
I don't really have the authority to speak on anything.
It's kind of funny.
The same people that got mad at the bakery for not making the cake...
Then turn around when this kind of stuff happens, and then says "but Google/Twitter/Facebook is a private company!!"
Yeah, I get that, which is why I primarily use stuff that isn't related to Google, for the most part.
I mostly stick to independent creators like Tim, yeah.
How does every other western nation manage to pull it off, then?
So, you're saying ethnostates work? <:hmkGrin:284219474440355840>
I'm not quite sure with what homogeneity has to do with anything...?
That's how health insurance works. The healthy subsidize the sick.
Paying for someone else's mistakes when it comes to a fire starting is fine?
You're not having to also then give insurance companies money, though, since your health coverage comes through taxes. It's not like you're paying it through taxes and then also giving medical companies and hospitals boatloads of money.
There's no such thing as being slapped with a medical bill that you have to spend the rest of your life paying off, because you have the audacity to actually get sick or hurt.
And you don't get cases of someone's insurance turning down their cancer treatment because she had acne as a teenager.
What? I was talking about private insurance companies.
Yeah, I'm not denying that lol. I just think healthcare would be one of those things people wouldn't mind paying a bit extra in taxes for.
I don't like it, but frankly, I do think it would be slightly better than our healthcare system as it is right now.
So, you're in a country that does have it then?
If you need emergency care, you are going to get it.
One thing that contributes to the 'wait time' thing is the fact that so many illegal aliens go to the hospital and take up space in the ER, I think.
To be honest, I am not certain in terms of efficiency, but the fact is no one really brings it up in the US except for a select few. They would rather just let people go bankrupt trying to pay for medical expenses themselves.
Up to 45,000 people a year in the US die from a lack of healthcare, according to a 2009 study.
Do you know what that number is in Canada? 0.
The number in France? 0.
The number in the UK? 0.
And that is in 2009. I don't know what the number is today. Could be higher, could be lower.
As it is right now the government doesn't manage any of it, to my knowledge. Our healthcare is privatized.
The population as a whole shouldn't matter, since a bigger population would -in theory- give a proportionate amount in taxes. The issue here is people on welfare/jobless, and illegals who avoid paying taxes.
Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if the number was higher in the US than in other countries, but that's a failure in enforcing tax codes and from deductions/subsidies.
Well, there's also the fact that the US can most definitely be spending it's tax dollars better, no argument here.
We have over 800 military bases around the world, for example.
Taxes are taken out on income, and every time you buy/sell an item.
I'm really not too familiar with our tax system, myself. Sometimes you overpay and get more money back, sometimes you get a phone call from the IRS telling you that you owe them 5000 dollars.
Like, food items altogether are not taxed in California, whereas in Georgia only *fresh* food items are not taxes, if I remember correctly. Even if I am not, it's along those lines.
I'm not too familiar with th enew tax plan, either. lol
Well, it doesn't seem like a lot at face value, but if you actually add it all up some people can get taxed as high as about... I think 45%?
And giving tax reductions to the wealthy.
Which sounds good on paper, but it requires us to just "trust" that the companies/corporations will use that money to actually provide jobs instead of just pocketing it.
And if you trust the wealthy to not just pocket the money, you have far more faith in them than I do lol.
I didn't mean to come off as "the rich are the sources of all of our problems!" kind of person. I am just saying that I don't trust companies any more than I trust the government.
Many of the wealthy were already getting plenty in subsidies and deductions.
If everyone else is as well, I don't see why not.
A lot of people don't realize that the wealthy pay over half of the taxes the US government gets from the population every year.
I'm not sure that's anarchy so much as libertarianism: believing in small government, not a lack of it.
Actually, you can be a libertarian left or right. It's the opposite of authoritarianism, which can also be left or right.
Did you take the political compass? I think that's the most popular one that most people use.
I was bottom/left, mostly toward the middle.
I'm actually with the right on a lot of fiscal policies and ideas.
Well, Tim himself is center left, if I recall.
I think the important thing is being towards the center. lol
I didn't like a lot of the questions of the "ISideWith" website, since a lot of the options to choose from I didn't agree with, or the questions were worded in such a way where I could not answer them the way I wanted to.
Plus, a lot of them were specific to exact policies and ideas that I am not quite educated on and know little about.
Let's just say I've been called both a racist and an SJW.
I guess I'm doing something right then?
Like, I wouldn't necessarily join with or side with the alt right, but I do think they bring up some fine points -- it's often their solutions to the problems I disagree with.
I dunno, at least the alt right will talk to you, at least *try* to strike up a conversation.
They won't beat you with clubs and bike locks for having a conservative thought.
Plus, they're not the ones with the social power right now.
The alt right? I would say their sudden resurgence has largely been a response to the hard left, yes.
The "leaders" of the alt right have even said that they are fine with how the left is conducting itself. They wouldn't have the left do anything different, since it's bringing people right into their arms.
At the very least the alt right respects free speech, for the most part, whereas antifa and groups like that will just beat you once one of their number labels you as a fascist.
Doesn't matter if they're right or not. If one points at you and yells 'fascist!' the rest will just dogpile onto you.
Yeah, they've kind of taken that term for themselves when they're not really liberal.
Nah, I think he'd be fine. The important thing is we're all center.
I kind of watch youtubers from across the entire spectrum to get a good view of things. I watch both Kyle Kulinski and Braving Ruin, for example.
Did anyone else catch the Warski stream where Sargon and Styx debated with Richard Spencer?
I got to admit that I wasn't expecting Sargon to lose his cool the way he did.
I guess debate just isn't quite his thing, though.
Debate is a skill, and you can be right about the subject matter, but still 'lose' if you're not really good at conveying what you're trying to say.
I had a best friend since 7'th grade of school, since we were children, that I lost because of this nonsense.
Well, still kind of 'have', we still talk, but it's just not the same.
Now we're at it again, this time about The Last Jedi. lol
He thinks it was good, I think it was a trainwreck.
Even just from a basic storytelling perspective it is a mess.
As cool as that scene was, it wasn't possible according to Star Wars technical lore. Hyperspace is a separate dimension, so her ship would have just gone right through the fleet, not tore into it.
Yeah, I'm glad I got out of California while I could.
No, as someone who grew up and lived in California, it really is that bad. lol
Kind of in-between. A town out in the middle of nowhere.
What is so important about diversity?
You may have been joking, but you're probably correct. lol
How is "oh, you might offend this group of people", any different from, "oh, you might offend the government?"
Well, there's also trying to change stuff without fully understanding what you're even trying to change. A perfect example of this is "the wage gap", wherein women make less money than men. It's easy to look at this and go "oh well that isn't right, we need to fix this."
The problem comes into play when no one bothers asking or looking into *why* this is the case.
I think it's just a general conversation about ideas, I'm not sure what the precise topic of discussion is. lol
Yeah, like being on the right or left is supposed to be an inherently bad thing? It makes no sense. lol
In practice, they're both bought out by busniesses and monied interests, so it's moot.
I thought the horseshoe theory was that the extremes of the right and left, in terms of ideology, is that they end up in the same place?
I was talking purely about money in politics.
It's not quite as good as the "it's OK to be white" signs.
Yeah, it was to protect the person accused until the trial happened.
It's easy to advocate open borders and taking in refugees from behind your secure and mostly-white gated community with paid security.
I couldn't find the Switch version of the trailer, but it's coming out on the Nintendo Switch, too.
It's also a matter of coverage. Third parties weren't allowed into the primary debates, if I remember?
Well, a third party is *technically* possible, but it would take so much coordination and the entire country voting them in via the "write-in" option.
Are people dogpiling on Trump for saying a naughty word?
There's plenty of legitimate criticisms of Trump without having to make stuff up for tone-police him.
> Calls Trump bigot.
> Kicks off pundit for having a different opinion.
Well, they are liberal, in the actual/traditional sense. The "SJW liberals" is a misnomer. They're not really all that liberal.
There were 'Social Justice Democrats' jokes about it, but they seemed to be alright and gaining some momentum. I was actually hoping they would succeed and was rooting for them for awhile.
And then the thing with Cenk happened.
And the 'Social Justice Democrats' jokes suddenly manifested into truth. lol
See, I'm not actually a furry, so I don't get any kind of furry in-jokes.
It's just for keks.
And I'm not actually a brony, that's another joke.
I mean, I watch the show, it's cool, but I don't like... cosplay, or get toys, or go to conventions or anything like that...
I mean, by that logic, watching cartoons with Bugs Bunny and stuff makes you a furry.
Well, there's a difference between finding that cute and liking the artstyle...
...and saying "I want to be inside of that."
My stance on furries/bronies/pokies is pretty simple: as long as you keep it away from me, you do you. lol
I'm afraid I can't let you do that, ping.
Just the reaction this meme is getting makes me want to perpetuate it.
I don't even find the meme all that funny.
Yeah, it came off a bit strong. People killed it. lol
Maybe I should quit changing pfp's so much.
Well, there is one I get, but I don't think it sways my opinion either way too much.
Google alone uses 21x more bandwidth than it actually pays for.
So NN keeps Google from having to pay for what it uses.
So I can only imagine how much they use today.
So, I'm a bit behind.
What did Trump do now?
Because Africa is such a thriving utopia right now?
How's the middle east doing these days?
There's a very small YouTuber called "The Hated One" I'm subbed to, and he made a pretty good NN video. To be honest, some of it flew over my head a little bit.
He mentions local loop unbundling and such.
I'm not for or against NN, but I used to be for it.
Now I understand that I need to know more about it before I say one way or another.
Ben Shapiro did a good video against NN too. He even presented the argument for NN to contrast his view of it.
Most of the gaming sphere of YouTube seems to be for it.
Something else people don't seem to realize is we already have these kinds of 'packages' they're so afraid of.
Like in Europe with all of the Christmas commercials which features interracial couples, to the point where even regular people were noticing it.
I just pictured a headline going, "Trump decries diet root beer as fake news."
And he's just the most entertaining thing to happen, for better or for worse.
I just don't picture Hillary going on rants and engaging in twitter brawls.
Throttling does take place, I don't think anyone disputes that.
I think the argument is that the rebels and the ~~empire~~ first order are not exactly equals in terms of military strength. Losing a few fighters may be nothing to the first order, but it may mean a lot to the rebels, because they have far fewer resources and are fewer in number.
Yeah, it was still a bad scene, just not for those reasons is all I'm saying. lol
Which is one of the bigger issues I have with the movie, yeah.
I was looking forward to seeing the republics retaliation against the first order and have an actual, you know... *war* take place, but nope, apparently all of the republic fleet was in orbit above those five planets. lol
It's funny how they want to pull the 'women can lead too!' card in a movie where the good guys are getting absolutely pasted by the enemy.
With repeated mistake after mistake, defeat after defeat.
Exactly. Hyperspace is a separate dimension. The ship would not have crashed into the first order fleet, just gone through it.
Even if you ignore it just taking all of the older movies and lightning them on fire, TLJ even takes what TFA itself was setting up and then tosses it out a window.
Scotland seems to be pushing to give asylum-seekers and the like the right to vote.
It's only racist if it's coming out of the mouth of a white person, remember?
