Those are all run of the mill game animals nothing special

2019-05-14 17:10:48 UTC

Well atleast whatever he's hunting he's gonna get a good peace of meat

2019-05-14 17:11:10 UTC

If I recall he wanted to get one of those heads mounted, don't recall which one though

2019-05-14 17:11:33 UTC

Anyone works I guess

2019-05-14 17:12:12 UTC

Well if it's his first hunt in SA then he must abide by this tradition ☝ https://www.reddit.com/r/WTF/comments/a22eca/guy_goes_on_a_hunt_and_singlehandedly_carries_his/

2019-05-14 17:12:47 UTC

Oh hes gonna get some blood and guts πŸ˜‚

2019-05-14 17:12:59 UTC

This ain't his first rodeo.

2019-05-14 17:13:22 UTC

Did he do it in SA

2019-05-14 17:13:23 UTC

And taking an .458 Will be overkill for everything but the buffalo

2019-05-14 17:13:49 UTC

Yep, he does all his African hunts in SA

2019-05-14 17:14:01 UTC

Ah ok lol

2019-05-14 17:14:04 UTC

He wanted to do it in Kenya but their laws suck apparently

2019-05-14 17:14:17 UTC

2019-05-14 17:14:59 UTC

Go to Tanzania. My uncle handles the hunting part there

2019-05-14 17:15:38 UTC

He's not sure if he'll have the money to go again after this trip, he retires in five years. He wanted to finish his African hunts with the 5 he most wanted to get.

2019-05-14 17:15:55 UTC

Oh okay

2019-05-14 17:15:57 UTC

He works at a print shop so he's not a rich man, he's been saving for years.

2019-05-14 17:17:08 UTC

Hey a job is a job

2019-05-14 17:17:55 UTC

He's got a hell of a gun collection, but he's left handed so I can't shoot most of his bolt-action hunting rifles.

2019-05-14 17:18:19 UTC

Lol. Atleast he has something to look at

2019-05-14 17:18:42 UTC

What animal is this?

2019-05-14 17:18:57 UTC

2019-05-14 17:19:20 UTC

Those are some badass horns

2019-05-14 17:20:07 UTC

Its a beast.

2019-05-14 17:20:11 UTC

I'm left handed but shoot right handed (right eye dominant)

2019-05-14 17:20:49 UTC

I shoot right and im right handed

2019-05-14 17:23:47 UTC

I shoot right handed, but this guy puts left handed stocks on all his hunting rifles (you can see it in one of the pictures), so you can't hold the rifle correctly if you're right handed

2019-05-14 17:24:26 UTC

Yea I see

2019-05-14 17:37:45 UTC

Moer mooi koedoe

2019-05-14 17:39:09 UTC

Dis kak om so mooi ding te skiet

2019-05-14 17:41:29 UTC

Ja but that's how we get biltong.

2019-05-14 17:41:50 UTC

Yea. Shit happens

2019-05-14 17:43:05 UTC

But I do agree. Hence why I'm not in favour of hunting for sport. If it's for consumption then it's not a problem.

2019-05-14 17:43:56 UTC

The animals need to die naturally.

2019-05-14 17:44:03 UTC

2019-05-14 17:45:36 UTC

Well it depends what you classify as natural death in the bush πŸ˜‰

Every day lions, cheetahs, leopards and hyena make kills to survive. That's the natural order of things in the wild.

That's what the majority of animals die from. a minority die from illness and old age.

2019-05-14 17:47:10 UTC

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCV6HJBZD_hZcIX9JVJ3dCXQ/featured can see their way of life every day on SafariLIVE

2019-05-14 17:47:38 UTC

Some say the also die naturally from a bullet

2019-05-14 17:48:54 UTC

But like I don't hunt for sport. I hunt cause its my family's tradition to hunt

2019-05-14 17:49:03 UTC

I'd say they're misinformed. Not natural to die from a bullet but sometimes necessary in some specific cases such as wild boars tearing up agricultural land.

Culling is a necessary practice at times. Of course necessary for us not necessary for the animals.

2019-05-14 17:49:05 UTC

And cause biltong is lekke

2019-05-14 17:50:25 UTC

Agreed. I'm on the same boat in that regard. I cannot stand trophy hunters. But hunting for food is a valid and decent job it is what puts food on the table after all. Hell even the Khoisan and Bantu would hunt if the opportunity arose.

2019-05-14 17:50:50 UTC

2019-05-14 17:50:55 UTC

Is it true that Malema is secretly a gay communist furry, or is that just a lie spread by the alt-right

2019-05-14 17:51:08 UTC

Never heard that, but that's hilarious.

2019-05-14 17:51:25 UTC

Funny but I have no idea

2019-05-14 17:51:39 UTC

He certainly seems like a commie.

2019-05-14 17:51:45 UTC

Wasn't Mandela in the communist party?

2019-05-14 17:52:12 UTC

SACP yup.

2019-05-14 17:52:28 UTC

The anc and eff are communist so yea

2019-05-14 17:53:16 UTC

The SACP was founded by William H. Andrews a Brit...

2019-05-14 17:54:25 UTC

Ironic lol

2019-05-14 17:54:56 UTC

A capitalist country making a communist party

2019-05-14 17:55:52 UTC

I know it's confusing. Honestly tired of all that kak, I'm burned out on all this political stuff.

Need a long break from it.

2019-05-14 17:56:18 UTC

Yea. To mosselbaai we go

2019-05-14 17:57:40 UTC

A week or 2 at the beach or in the mountains will do me good

2019-05-14 18:02:33 UTC

If I didn't need to buy a new computer I'd hop on a plane and head out to SA to see the place, all the pictures I've seen look great and I've been told that if you stick to the touristy areas or with friends you'll be fine.

2019-05-14 18:03:19 UTC

Yea true

2019-05-14 18:04:18 UTC

Just get someone that knows the erea

2019-05-17 19:56:14 UTC

2019-05-17 19:56:32 UTC
2019-05-17 19:58:24 UTC

2019-05-19 20:57:59 UTC

Looks like that was a fun hunt!

2019-05-26 12:33:30 UTC

Best gun in sandstorm

2019-05-29 10:33:34 UTC

2019-06-03 12:57:33 UTC

Figured this would be of relevance

2019-06-03 12:57:43 UTC

The seige of jadotville

2019-06-03 12:58:17 UTC

A few hundred underequipped UN soldiers against several thousand african militia and french mercenaries

2019-06-03 12:58:45 UTC

2019-06-03 12:59:03 UTC

Its amazing the UN guys managed to all return home, alive

2019-06-03 12:59:46 UTC

They were low on ammo, had ww2 era reserve equipment, while under mortar barrage and even being strafed by a training jet

2019-06-03 12:59:48 UTC

i've watched it like 3 times and still think the irish goverment is assholes for just abandoning them

2019-06-03 13:00:02 UTC

No medals, no compensation

2019-06-03 13:00:19 UTC

Hell, even threatened em with courtmartial

2019-06-03 13:00:37 UTC

The commanding officer resigned and never served again after that

2019-06-03 13:01:16 UTC

but yea if you can stand against the most decorated member of the frence legean then you deserve medals

2019-06-03 13:01:45 UTC

The french foreign legion?

2019-06-03 13:01:54 UTC

2019-06-03 13:02:12 UTC

Sheesh, i thought they were just mercs

2019-06-03 13:02:18 UTC

2019-06-03 13:02:39 UTC

at the end of the movie its says who he was

2019-06-03 13:02:48 UTC

2019-06-03 13:03:00 UTC

Thats tough

2019-06-03 13:03:06 UTC

i know

2019-06-03 13:03:38 UTC

Would be awesome if this mod could have a point on a map that aims to recreate that UN base

2019-06-03 13:03:53 UTC

Maybe even a few reference easter eggs too

2019-06-03 13:04:16 UTC

That would be a great tribute to that battle

2019-06-03 13:05:58 UTC

because its a border war mod i think its only gonna have the south african stuff

2019-06-03 13:06:16 UTC

but we'll see

2019-06-14 19:51:05 UTC

@everyone sign up for the Squad community event 22nd June. details on RM Discord

Come on guys. We need more meat for the grinder! Remember the server will be locked down on the night, no randoms/casuals so join the RM Discord and sign up!

2019-06-25 17:42:16 UTC
2019-07-01 00:43:45 UTC

@everyone Hay sins the new v14 SDK is finally out i will be starting to update the mod and fix any errors there are if any and will maybe work a bit on our Shooting Range map again because that's what we will be using to test out everything has we work on the mod and start adding more stuff. And will post images in the squad SDK channel of my progress has things go's along

2019-08-24 12:22:47 UTC

So whatever happened to this mod?

2019-08-24 12:38:14 UTC

@GOD We still working on it @Springbok is just away working so when he comes back in September he will continue modelling the R4 but i have bin working on the mod in the background

2019-08-25 08:35:30 UTC

2019-08-25 08:35:48 UTC

So when we gonna get a semi finished version?

2019-08-25 08:35:53 UTC

Or at least a test run

2019-08-25 08:42:47 UTC

we've done 2 tests and im glad to say that most of the things work very well

2019-09-03 14:08:24 UTC

i cant wait to play this..

2019-09-03 14:09:07 UTC

Same here bru. Just got a shit load of work ahead to get there πŸ˜‰

2019-09-03 14:09:22 UTC

2019-09-03 14:09:52 UTC

well luckily im patient and i think my this is something my dad will enjoy playing since he was a SADF paratrooper

2019-09-03 14:10:56 UTC

I'd smile like a cheshire cat if an oummane plays the mod at some point

2019-09-03 14:11:54 UTC

You've seen the work in progress vehicle models right?

2019-09-03 14:12:00 UTC

yes i have

2019-09-03 14:12:06 UTC

Show them to your father?

2019-09-03 14:13:27 UTC

he actually showed me a picture of the rifle models and thats how i became interested, i have no idea where he got the picture tho. but when i showed him the vehicles he got quite excited and asked me a few questions so i think they peeked his interest

2019-09-03 14:14:26 UTC

Lekker! I wonder where he saw them too as they have only been posted in a few places

2019-09-03 14:15:00 UTC

Artstation, discord and SQUAD forum. And maybe Reddit if I remember correctly.

2019-09-03 14:15:11 UTC

How possible would it be for us to get more "casual" character models

2019-09-03 14:15:24 UTC

Such as the picture above?

2019-09-03 14:15:28 UTC

2019-09-03 14:15:49 UTC

i think maybe one of his friends sons maybe showed it to his dad and it got sent aroun, really have no idea

2019-09-03 14:15:53 UTC

That's the one thing that's miffed me a bit about squad - I want to play with a plate carrier over my t-shirt and trainers on lol

2019-09-03 14:16:15 UTC

it will be a while before we add our own custom characters sins we need to make them

2019-09-03 14:16:38 UTC

I'll be sculpting them as soon as I get back

2019-09-03 14:16:59 UTC

Will purchase Zbrush as soon as I'm home War.

2019-09-03 14:17:00 UTC

like this

2019-09-03 14:17:03 UTC

2019-09-03 14:17:19 UTC

2019-09-03 14:18:00 UTC

Springbok - I'll donate to the mod if you ever feel like setting something up

2019-09-03 14:18:02 UTC

I'll consider it, although it may be detrimental as bare skin is easy to spot in the bush

2019-09-03 14:18:05 UTC

help with your overhead costs

2019-09-03 14:18:26 UTC

I will be setting that up as soon as I'm back

2019-09-03 14:18:31 UTC

good deal

2019-09-03 14:18:41 UTC

Will be home late sept. We close on the 22nd

2019-09-03 14:19:55 UTC

What SWAPO will look like

2019-09-03 14:20:11 UTC

The typical rice fleck uniform

2019-09-03 14:21:46 UTC

SADF version of the logistics truck. Mine resistant so drivers will be safe from small arms and landmines

2019-09-03 14:22:26 UTC

ahhh the KwΓͺvoΓ«l

2019-09-03 14:23:23 UTC

Samil 100 KwΓͺvoΓ«l

2019-09-03 14:23:53 UTC

Can carry a lot more troops than the US trucks too

2019-09-03 14:25:28 UTC

The gameplay will be slightly different to vanilla squad. Each Squad will have a vehicle to work alongside and transport it around the operational area. Choice between a Ratel, Casspir, samil or Buffel

2019-09-03 14:25:46 UTC

Took this pic at youngsfield military base the other day

2019-09-03 14:26:23 UTC

And hopefully the 100 player support comes in soon as Op Savannah will def need it.

2019-09-03 14:26:32 UTC

Lekker pic!

2019-09-03 14:26:50 UTC

Fuel trucks would be fun to have.

2019-09-03 14:27:15 UTC

Though will have a look at that at a later stage.

2019-09-03 14:29:29 UTC

I'd also like to be accurate with the changes in equipment over the duration of the war.

Such as early ops will only have bedfords, landrovers and elands

2019-09-03 14:30:03 UTC

Later ops will have ratels, casspirs, buffels and samils

2019-09-03 14:30:09 UTC

that would be really cool

2019-09-03 14:30:23 UTC

Same with uniforms, aircraft and weapons

2019-09-03 14:31:00 UTC

R1's early on, R4's later on, alouttes early, pumas, alouettes and super frelons later

2019-09-03 14:31:17 UTC

Though initially I will be focusing on the 1980's

2019-09-03 14:31:32 UTC

well i cant wait for the allouette 3 or the puma

2019-09-03 14:31:38 UTC

As I already have the R4 and 1980's vehicles almost done

2019-09-03 14:31:58 UTC

Ja same here

2019-09-03 14:32:38 UTC

Will be hectic seeing alouettes flying above firing down with their 20mm's on the enemy.

2019-09-03 14:33:11 UTC

I'll also be making the SANDF by the way

2019-09-03 14:33:31 UTC

To compete with the other modern day factions

2019-09-03 14:34:13 UTC

Will be interesting how the Rooivalk, Rooikat and Ratel take on the Russians, Brits, Militia and US

2019-09-03 14:34:36 UTC

Although no scopes for SANDF personnel... that will be a disadvantage

2019-09-03 14:35:27 UTC

Won't be a problem with the SADF vs SWAPO and FAPLA though as neither had scopes. So they're even there.

2019-09-03 14:54:38 UTC

Aren't you the guy who posts all those cool pictures to reddit?

2019-09-03 14:59:28 UTC

Springbok? Ja that's me.

2019-09-03 14:59:47 UTC

There's another called Vektor2000 that isn't me.

2019-09-03 15:03:43 UTC

Could easily make the Rhino as it uses the same hull as the Samil 100 kwevoel. Though I believe it was a police vehicle. Never issued to the SADF?

2019-09-03 15:04:16 UTC

Athough those okes in the pic are wearing SADF browns...

2019-09-03 15:04:34 UTC

@Kooijpolloi any knowledge on this?

2019-09-03 15:23:57 UTC

could be koevoet

2019-09-03 15:25:15 UTC

Possibly although I believe they wore their unique camouflage uniforms by the this time.

2019-09-03 15:25:40 UTC

Koevoet will also be included

2019-09-03 15:27:27 UTC

They'll be up against SWAPO. Would probably be easier to fight against for the players on the SWAPO side. As there won't be any Ratels or Elands available to Koevoet. Only Casspirs.

2019-09-03 15:29:37 UTC

Every so often I find a weird vehicle that looks like either a Casspir or a Kwevoel but not quite. In this casw it looks like a kwevoel that wants to be a Casspir.

2019-09-03 15:32:43 UTC

Players complain about flipping vehicles in SQUAD when it is only reflecting reality

2019-09-03 15:49:07 UTC

2019-09-03 16:52:14 UTC

My word

2019-09-03 17:35:00 UTC

@Springbok Some police units wore browns as well

2019-09-03 17:35:17 UTC

not impossible for the SADF to use that vehicle

2019-09-04 00:03:56 UTC

I think this pic is from the Border War. Most likely FAPLA vehicles?

2019-09-04 00:04:21 UTC

Bmp-1 and BM-21 Stalin Organ

2019-09-04 00:05:35 UTC

@Kooijpolloi any idea whether identifying symbols such as that red star were common on Angolan ground vehicles?

2019-09-04 00:07:04 UTC

I'm going to have to find a way to make UNITA and FAPLA vehicles identifiable from each other. Otherwise whenever there are UNITA vs FAPLA layers there will be a clusterfuck of friendly fire...

2019-09-04 00:08:23 UTC

I'm thinking MPLA symbol on FAPLA vehicles. And UNITA will have their own although that rooster would look ridiculous on any vehicle...

2019-09-04 00:10:08 UTC

I wonder whether this is a bosvark? I don't have any decent images of one. And all I know about them is that they were unimogs with a "bathtub" put in the back for some mine protection.

2019-09-04 00:12:17 UTC

That symbol for FAPLA vehicles?

2019-09-04 00:15:53 UTC

While looking for refs I found this armoured Special task force bakkie

2019-09-04 00:17:27 UTC

The Ratel 81 is going to be a real nuisance I reckon. Due to it being able to relocate quickly. There is far less of a chance of it being overrun like a static mortar squad.

2019-09-04 00:18:20 UTC

It gives the game new challenges

2019-09-04 00:18:40 UTC

If the ratel is located it can easily be taken out by an RPG

2019-09-04 00:19:07 UTC

And yes the unimog is a bosvark

2019-09-04 00:19:09 UTC

what are the SADF using for there logis?

2019-09-04 00:19:24 UTC

The kwΓͺvoΓ«l

2019-09-04 00:19:30 UTC

@Kooijpolloi any knowledge on when the change of uniform cut took place? Notice pointed front pockets vs straight rectangle pockets.

2019-09-04 00:19:51 UTC

Samil 50 and 100

2019-09-04 00:20:09 UTC

Both armoured and soft skin versions

2019-09-04 00:21:25 UTC

Pity the Ratel logistics was never adopted

2019-09-04 00:21:35 UTC

i was about to say having an armored logi would be a neat game mechanic.

2019-09-04 00:22:02 UTC

if not lightly armored

2019-09-04 00:22:58 UTC

2019-09-04 00:23:19 UTC

Top two are the armoured samil 100 kwevoel

2019-09-04 00:23:42 UTC

Bottom is the samil 50? Soft skin

2019-09-04 00:24:32 UTC

Samil 100 and samil 50 are the same truck I believe just the 100 has two extra wheels

2019-09-04 00:25:02 UTC

Or more if they're double

2019-09-04 00:27:01 UTC

Fapla used the btr-152 early on but quickly switched to the btr-60 after Op Savannah IIRC.

2019-09-04 00:28:33 UTC

Captured FAPLA vehicles during Op Protea? BRDM-2, PT-76, T-34'85 and a GAZ 66? Only one of those vehicles is currently in SQUAD

2019-09-04 00:30:13 UTC

Thank you for the additions to my Bush Wars folder

2019-09-04 00:30:53 UTC

You're welcome.

2019-09-04 00:31:01 UTC

Got plenty, plenty more

2019-09-04 00:31:15 UTC

I'm up to ~68 pictures, always looking for more

2019-09-04 00:32:13 UTC

Hows this one? A really weird looking vehicle. Can't remember its name.

2019-09-04 00:33:11 UTC

You'll probably like these ones

2019-09-04 00:34:31 UTC

Awesome stuff, thank you!

2019-09-04 00:34:46 UTC

Maybe Dana could ID that vehicle?

G6 Rhino always looks amazing in every picture.

Would be fun to have the jakkals in at some point. Small with a big 50 on it.

2019-09-04 00:37:36 UTC

Seen one with dual 50's too

2019-09-04 00:40:18 UTC

Interesting how they used the orange square on the lid to avoid friendly fire from above. Troops had orange squares inside their boshoeds too. Turn it inside out and you're identifiable from above. No fancy strobes like the US has today. Though my boshoed doesn't have an orange square...

Looks like that. It's apparently called dayglo

2019-09-04 00:45:33 UTC

what would the marksman weapon be for SADF?

2019-09-04 00:46:07 UTC

Don't think there were marksmen to my knowledge.

2019-09-04 00:46:28 UTC

They were all marksmen by default

2019-09-04 00:46:30 UTC

So, the R4

2019-09-04 00:48:42 UTC

Only scoped R4 I have seen during the Border War.

2019-09-04 00:53:26 UTC

This Ratel is able to detect enemy artillery barrages and pinpoint where they fired from I believe. Which allowed the SADF to fire counter barrages.

I'm assuming all of the above pictures are from SA and not Rhodesia, right? Just for folder sorting

2019-09-04 00:55:12 UTC

2019-09-04 00:55:17 UTC

All SA

2019-09-04 00:55:42 UTC

Rhodesia never had Ratels

2019-09-04 00:58:01 UTC

2019-09-04 00:58:12 UTC

Those are Rhodesian

2019-09-04 00:58:34 UTC

2019-09-04 01:03:40 UTC

2019-09-04 01:04:33 UTC

Rhodesia also used the Buffel in small numbers I believe

2019-09-04 01:04:53 UTC

Have pics of them using some but not on my phone.

2019-09-04 07:36:06 UTC

@Springbok uniform changes were around the same time they switched from R1 to R4 iirc

2019-09-04 07:36:55 UTC

@Springbok and yes the red star was on a lot of vehicles but afaik that was not the norm with most vehicles simply being that olive green color

2019-09-04 07:40:13 UTC

@Springbok @Colonel Clint @Ruanhead marksman rifle was an accurised R1 with some german scope on cant remember which. My dad was issued one

2019-09-04 07:41:50 UTC

Was still used as a DMR till like 2009?

2019-09-04 07:46:24 UTC

Some also had Weaver V7 scopes

2019-09-04 07:50:56 UTC

Lekker stuff @Kooijpolloi glad to have you around! Marksmen will have an R1 with that scope then. Gotta get up for work. Chat later this afternoon. Have plenty more questions πŸ‘Œ

Marksmen did exist but scoped R1's were few in far between. I just spoke to my father who was a designated marksman and he said they trained on R1s and were issued R1s even when the R1s were being fased out. They were trained to use iron sights as shooting at range was impossible due to the lack of open space to clearly see a target. The scoped R1s are still used by marksmen today especially by the recces and the MRS

2019-09-04 13:57:44 UTC

So most marksmen used ironsights in the SADF? I figured that the thick bush would be a problem as time after time I've seen short engagement distances due low visibility mentioned in the books I've read.

2019-09-04 13:59:46 UTC

Rare pic of the milkor y2 mgl in use during the war. I wonder how common these were at the squad level...

2019-09-04 14:01:17 UTC

Anyone know if that palm tree symbol is just "nose art" or an actual unit insignia?

2019-09-04 14:03:42 UTC

This picture was listed as Rhodesian Selous scouts but I don't believe it is as I don't recall the Rhodesians ever using nutria uniforms

2019-09-04 14:05:47 UTC

I like the foliage on the helmets. Would be nice to have such an option.

Mortar squad. One thing I dislike about Squad's mortars is that they feel very static. It is difficult to relocate as it costs you build points to assemble and you don't get them back when disassembling the mortar as far as I know. Would be far better if those build points used were restored to the logi when digging down the mortar.
