Those are all run of the mill game animals nothing special
Well atleast whatever he's hunting he's gonna get a good peace of meat
If I recall he wanted to get one of those heads mounted, don't recall which one though
Anyone works I guess
Well if it's his first hunt in SA then he must abide by this tradition โ https://www.reddit.com/r/WTF/comments/a22eca/guy_goes_on_a_hunt_and_singlehandedly_carries_his/
Oh hes gonna get some blood and guts ๐
This ain't his first rodeo.
Did he do it in SA
And taking an .458 Will be overkill for everything but the buffalo
Yep, he does all his African hunts in SA
Ah ok lol
He wanted to do it in Kenya but their laws suck apparently
Go to Tanzania. My uncle handles the hunting part there
He's not sure if he'll have the money to go again after this trip, he retires in five years. He wanted to finish his African hunts with the 5 he most wanted to get.
Oh okay
He works at a print shop so he's not a rich man, he's been saving for years.
Hey a job is a job
He's got a hell of a gun collection, but he's left handed so I can't shoot most of his bolt-action hunting rifles.
Lol. Atleast he has something to look at
What animal is this?
Koedoe
Those are some badass horns
Its a beast.
I'm left handed but shoot right handed (right eye dominant)
I shoot right and im right handed
I shoot right handed, but this guy puts left handed stocks on all his hunting rifles (you can see it in one of the pictures), so you can't hold the rifle correctly if you're right handed
Yea I see
Moer mooi koedoe
Dis kak om so mooi ding te skiet
Ja but that's how we get biltong.
Yea. Shit happens
But I do agree. Hence why I'm not in favour of hunting for sport. If it's for consumption then it's not a problem.
The animals need to die naturally.
Lol
Well it depends what you classify as natural death in the bush ๐
Every day lions, cheetahs, leopards and hyena make kills to survive. That's the natural order of things in the wild.
That's what the majority of animals die from. a minority die from illness and old age.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCV6HJBZD_hZcIX9JVJ3dCXQ/featured can see their way of life every day on SafariLIVE
Some say the also die naturally from a bullet
But like I don't hunt for sport. I hunt cause its my family's tradition to hunt
I'd say they're misinformed. Not natural to die from a bullet but sometimes necessary in some specific cases such as wild boars tearing up agricultural land.
Culling is a necessary practice at times. Of course necessary for us not necessary for the animals.
And cause biltong is lekke
Agreed. I'm on the same boat in that regard. I cannot stand trophy hunters. But hunting for food is a valid and decent job it is what puts food on the table after all. Hell even the Khoisan and Bantu would hunt if the opportunity arose.
Agreed
Is it true that Malema is secretly a gay communist furry, or is that just a lie spread by the alt-right
Never heard that, but that's hilarious.
Funny but I have no idea
He certainly seems like a commie.
Wasn't Mandela in the communist party?
SACP yup.
The anc and eff are communist so yea
The SACP was founded by William H. Andrews a Brit...
Ironic lol
A capitalist country making a communist party
I know it's confusing. Honestly tired of all that kak, I'm burned out on all this political stuff.
Need a long break from it.
Yea. To mosselbaai we go
A week or 2 at the beach or in the mountains will do me good
If I didn't need to buy a new computer I'd hop on a plane and head out to SA to see the place, all the pictures I've seen look great and I've been told that if you stick to the touristy areas or with friends you'll be fine.
Yea true
Just get someone that knows the erea
wawaweewa
Looks like that was a fun hunt!
Best gun in sandstorm
LOL
Figured this would be of relevance
The seige of jadotville
A few hundred underequipped UN soldiers against several thousand african militia and french mercenaries
BEST MOVIE EVER
Its amazing the UN guys managed to all return home, alive
They were low on ammo, had ww2 era reserve equipment, while under mortar barrage and even being strafed by a training jet
i've watched it like 3 times and still think the irish goverment is assholes for just abandoning them
No medals, no compensation
Hell, even threatened em with courtmartial
The commanding officer resigned and never served again after that
but yea if you can stand against the most decorated member of the frence legean then you deserve medals
The french foreign legion?
yea
Sheesh, i thought they were just mercs
nope
at the end of the movie its says who he was
Damn
Thats tough
i know
Would be awesome if this mod could have a point on a map that aims to recreate that UN base
Maybe even a few reference easter eggs too
That would be a great tribute to that battle
because its a border war mod i think its only gonna have the south african stuff
but we'll see
@everyone sign up for the Squad community event 22nd June. details on RM Discord
https://discord.gg/aCFgJfs
Come on guys. We need more meat for the grinder! Remember the server will be locked down on the night, no randoms/casuals so join the RM Discord and sign up!
Squad is 50% off on steam https://store.steampowered.com/app/393380/Squad/
@everyone Hay sins the new v14 SDK is finally out i will be starting to update the mod and fix any errors there are if any and will maybe work a bit on our Shooting Range map again because that's what we will be using to test out everything has we work on the mod and start adding more stuff. And will post images in the squad SDK channel of my progress has things go's along
So whatever happened to this mod?
@GOD We still working on it @Springbok is just away working so when he comes back in September he will continue modelling the R4 but i have bin working on the mod in the background
Aye
So when we gonna get a semi finished version?
Or at least a test run
we've done 2 tests and im glad to say that most of the things work very well
i cant wait to play this..
Same here bru. Just got a shit load of work ahead to get there ๐
well luckily im patient and i think my this is something my dad will enjoy playing since he was a SADF paratrooper
I'd smile like a cheshire cat if an oummane plays the mod at some point
You've seen the work in progress vehicle models right?
yes i have
Show them to your father?
he actually showed me a picture of the rifle models and thats how i became interested, i have no idea where he got the picture tho. but when i showed him the vehicles he got quite excited and asked me a few questions so i think they peeked his interest
Lekker! I wonder where he saw them too as they have only been posted in a few places
Artstation, discord and SQUAD forum. And maybe Reddit if I remember correctly.
How possible would it be for us to get more "casual" character models
Such as the picture above?
yeah
i think maybe one of his friends sons maybe showed it to his dad and it got sent aroun, really have no idea
That's the one thing that's miffed me a bit about squad - I want to play with a plate carrier over my t-shirt and trainers on lol
it will be a while before we add our own custom characters sins we need to make them
I'll be sculpting them as soon as I get back
Will purchase Zbrush as soon as I'm home War.
like this
lol
Springbok - I'll donate to the mod if you ever feel like setting something up
I'll consider it, although it may be detrimental as bare skin is easy to spot in the bush
help with your overhead costs
I will be setting that up as soon as I'm back
good deal
Will be home late sept. We close on the 22nd
What SWAPO will look like
The typical rice fleck uniform
SADF version of the logistics truck. Mine resistant so drivers will be safe from small arms and landmines
ahhh the Kwรชvoรซl
Samil 100 Kwรชvoรซl
Can carry a lot more troops than the US trucks too
The gameplay will be slightly different to vanilla squad. Each Squad will have a vehicle to work alongside and transport it around the operational area. Choice between a Ratel, Casspir, samil or Buffel
Took this pic at youngsfield military base the other day
And hopefully the 100 player support comes in soon as Op Savannah will def need it.
Lekker pic!
Fuel trucks would be fun to have.
Though will have a look at that at a later stage.
I'd also like to be accurate with the changes in equipment over the duration of the war.
Such as early ops will only have bedfords, landrovers and elands
Later ops will have ratels, casspirs, buffels and samils
that would be really cool
Same with uniforms, aircraft and weapons
R1's early on, R4's later on, alouttes early, pumas, alouettes and super frelons later
Though initially I will be focusing on the 1980's
well i cant wait for the allouette 3 or the puma
As I already have the R4 and 1980's vehicles almost done
Ja same here
Will be hectic seeing alouettes flying above firing down with their 20mm's on the enemy.
I'll also be making the SANDF by the way
To compete with the other modern day factions
Will be interesting how the Rooivalk, Rooikat and Ratel take on the Russians, Brits, Militia and US
Although no scopes for SANDF personnel... that will be a disadvantage
Won't be a problem with the SADF vs SWAPO and FAPLA though as neither had scopes. So they're even there.
Aren't you the guy who posts all those cool pictures to reddit?
Springbok? Ja that's me.
There's another called Vektor2000 that isn't me.
Could easily make the Rhino as it uses the same hull as the Samil 100 kwevoel. Though I believe it was a police vehicle. Never issued to the SADF?
Athough those okes in the pic are wearing SADF browns...
@Kooijpolloi any knowledge on this?
could be koevoet
Possibly although I believe they wore their unique camouflage uniforms by the this time.
Koevoet will also be included
They'll be up against SWAPO. Would probably be easier to fight against for the players on the SWAPO side. As there won't be any Ratels or Elands available to Koevoet. Only Casspirs.
Every so often I find a weird vehicle that looks like either a Casspir or a Kwevoel but not quite. In this casw it looks like a kwevoel that wants to be a Casspir.
Players complain about flipping vehicles in SQUAD when it is only reflecting reality
My word
@Springbok Some police units wore browns as well
not impossible for the SADF to use that vehicle
I think this pic is from the Border War. Most likely FAPLA vehicles?
Bmp-1 and BM-21 Stalin Organ
@Kooijpolloi any idea whether identifying symbols such as that red star were common on Angolan ground vehicles?
I'm going to have to find a way to make UNITA and FAPLA vehicles identifiable from each other. Otherwise whenever there are UNITA vs FAPLA layers there will be a clusterfuck of friendly fire...
I'm thinking MPLA symbol on FAPLA vehicles. And UNITA will have their own although that rooster would look ridiculous on any vehicle...
I wonder whether this is a bosvark? I don't have any decent images of one. And all I know about them is that they were unimogs with a "bathtub" put in the back for some mine protection.
That symbol for FAPLA vehicles?
While looking for refs I found this armoured Special task force bakkie
The Ratel 81 is going to be a real nuisance I reckon. Due to it being able to relocate quickly. There is far less of a chance of it being overrun like a static mortar squad.
It gives the game new challenges
If the ratel is located it can easily be taken out by an RPG
And yes the unimog is a bosvark
what are the SADF using for there logis?
The kwรชvoรซl
@Kooijpolloi any knowledge on when the change of uniform cut took place? Notice pointed front pockets vs straight rectangle pockets.
Samil 50 and 100
Both armoured and soft skin versions
Pity the Ratel logistics was never adopted
i was about to say having an armored logi would be a neat game mechanic.
if not lightly armored
Top two are the armoured samil 100 kwevoel
Bottom is the samil 50? Soft skin
Samil 100 and samil 50 are the same truck I believe just the 100 has two extra wheels
Or more if they're double
Fapla used the btr-152 early on but quickly switched to the btr-60 after Op Savannah IIRC.
Captured FAPLA vehicles during Op Protea? BRDM-2, PT-76, T-34'85 and a GAZ 66? Only one of those vehicles is currently in SQUAD
Thank you for the additions to my Bush Wars folder
You're welcome.
Got plenty, plenty more
I'm up to ~68 pictures, always looking for more
Hows this one? A really weird looking vehicle. Can't remember its name.
You'll probably like these ones
Awesome stuff, thank you!
Maybe Dana could ID that vehicle?
Possibly
G6 Rhino always looks amazing in every picture.
Would be fun to have the jakkals in at some point. Small with a big 50 on it.
Seen one with dual 50's too
Interesting how they used the orange square on the lid to avoid friendly fire from above. Troops had orange squares inside their boshoeds too. Turn it inside out and you're identifiable from above. No fancy strobes like the US has today. Though my boshoed doesn't have an orange square...
Looks like that. It's apparently called dayglo
what would the marksman weapon be for SADF?
Don't think there were marksmen to my knowledge.
They were all marksmen by default
So, the R4
Only scoped R4 I have seen during the Border War.
This Ratel is able to detect enemy artillery barrages and pinpoint where they fired from I believe. Which allowed the SADF to fire counter barrages.
I'm assuming all of the above pictures are from SA and not Rhodesia, right? Just for folder sorting
Yes
All SA
Rhodesia never had Ratels
Those are Rhodesian
Crocodile and Leopard
Looks like something from Mad Max
Rhodesian hueys delivered by Israel
Rhodesian take on an armoured "techie"
Rare arid Rhodesian brushstroke
Rhodesian with an R1
Rhodesia also used the Buffel in small numbers I believe
Have pics of them using some but not on my phone.
@Springbok uniform changes were around the same time they switched from R1 to R4 iirc
@Springbok and yes the red star was on a lot of vehicles but afaik that was not the norm with most vehicles simply being that olive green color
@Springbok @Colonel Clint @Ruanhead marksman rifle was an accurised R1 with some german scope on cant remember which. My dad was issued one
Was still used as a DMR till like 2009?
Some also had Weaver V7 scopes
Lekker stuff @Kooijpolloi glad to have you around! Marksmen will have an R1 with that scope then. Gotta get up for work. Chat later this afternoon. Have plenty more questions ๐
100%
Marksmen did exist but scoped R1's were few in far between. I just spoke to my father who was a designated marksman and he said they trained on R1s and were issued R1s even when the R1s were being fased out. They were trained to use iron sights as shooting at range was impossible due to the lack of open space to clearly see a target. The scoped R1s are still used by marksmen today especially by the recces and the MRS
So most marksmen used ironsights in the SADF? I figured that the thick bush would be a problem as time after time I've seen short engagement distances due low visibility mentioned in the books I've read.
Rare pic of the milkor y2 mgl in use during the war. I wonder how common these were at the squad level...
Anyone know if that palm tree symbol is just "nose art" or an actual unit insignia?
This picture was listed as Rhodesian Selous scouts but I don't believe it is as I don't recall the Rhodesians ever using nutria uniforms
I like the foliage on the helmets. Would be nice to have such an option.
Mortar squad. One thing I dislike about Squad's mortars is that they feel very static. It is difficult to relocate as it costs you build points to assemble and you don't get them back when disassembling the mortar as far as I know. Would be far better if those build points used were restored to the logi when digging down the mortar.
