That's also a distortion to the market

2018-11-17 15:40:21 UTC

How so? It stands to reason that the more hours of the day a person must devote to work, the more valuable he judges his time.

2018-11-17 15:40:57 UTC

If he works 8 hours a day, then losing another 2 to 3 hours is more valuable to him than the previous 8, as he now has comparatively much less time to see to his own affairs in a day.

2018-11-17 15:41:04 UTC

My point is that there may be people willing to work straight time after 40. If they do, shouldn;t they be permitted to?

2018-11-17 15:41:16 UTC

Ah, I see. Yes, you have a point.

2018-11-17 15:41:44 UTC

Speaking as an employer, I would gladly let my staff keep working beyond 40hrs a week in many circumstances (busy day) but do not due to OT.

2018-11-17 15:41:44 UTC

to be clear, I'm not against Minimum Wage laws.
Im against too high minimum wage

2018-11-17 15:41:58 UTC

The market would crash

2018-11-17 15:42:08 UTC

Only way to do it in a stable manner is annual increments

2018-11-17 15:42:25 UTC

I'd give a yearly max. OT Limit

2018-11-17 15:43:00 UTC

Is it possible that you recoil at the idea of no OT because you benefit from OT?

2018-11-17 15:43:12 UTC

In some cases you have to do overtime but you can't employ another two or three people because it only happens once for 2-3 Weeks per year

2018-11-17 15:43:21 UTC

I'm serious, just this week I sent people home when I could have used them because I wasn't willing to pay OT.

2018-11-17 15:44:11 UTC

Some of my staff would have stayed and been paid regular time but the law prevents me from allowing that.

2018-11-17 15:44:30 UTC

I literally have to babysit their hours or be accused of unfair labor practices

2018-11-17 15:44:30 UTC

That's the way increased minimum wages have already been implemented already

2018-11-17 15:44:49 UTC

The annual system

2018-11-17 15:44:53 UTC

That is government interference in the market, yes.

2018-11-17 15:45:01 UTC

They do it per dollar, etc every year on smaller business

2018-11-17 15:45:07 UTC

Any libertarian worth their salt would say they should be allowed to work under those conditions.

2018-11-17 15:45:32 UTC

I have no issue with minimums because our pay to get qualified workers is above even our high state minimum.

2018-11-17 15:47:28 UTC

My staff are all licensed medical professionals many of whom make around $70/hr. OT makes that over $100/hr. You can see why I have to be very cognizant of OT but also why they would be willing to work a few extra hours straight time...but can't due to labor laws.

2018-11-17 16:28:05 UTC

Lie by omission

2018-11-17 16:30:28 UTC

That is intriguing. I would love to se a plot of Salaries, both mean and average plotted for the US from the 1900 and to today with a clear indication of minimum wage plotted in as well. And for comparison I would like to see the same for a country without labor legislation. E.g. Denmark or Norway.

2018-11-17 16:30:55 UTC

does blocking MEE6 do anything negative?

2018-11-17 16:33:33 UTC

Gives you ligma

2018-11-17 16:34:10 UTC
