Yeah.

2018-07-03 04:35:14 UTC

It's basically just fancy hearing protection for the operator.

2018-07-03 04:35:33 UTC

If it were possible to make guns 100% silent. Every gun in the Armed forced would have them.

2018-07-03 04:36:08 UTC

Every grunt. Marine etc. Not solely spec ops. That would be an extreme combat advantage.

2018-07-03 04:36:54 UTC

They go for a more practical solution, kill the target before the sound waves arrive.

2018-07-03 04:37:00 UTC

BRRRRRRRRRT

2018-07-03 04:37:06 UTC

Comparative to the cost of the firearm itself. A suppressor is nothing.

2018-07-03 04:37:42 UTC

Not to mention sound is typically what is used to identify the direction and location of an attack.

2018-07-03 04:37:57 UTC

If you could shoot without making a peep. Your enemy would stand no chance.

2018-07-03 04:40:37 UTC

The reason Camouflage is so common is because it makes it harder for the enemy to spot ya. They'll know which direction the shooting is coming from. So if your harder to spot. It negates that problem a bit. Totally silent guns would be so effective in combat that a Marine could go into battle dressed as a clown and still be competent in achieving the mission objective.

@Somnio Hey, the 249 is all we have for high volume suppressive fire in 5.56. 7.62 NATO is nice, but sometimes you just need a big cone of lead.

2018-07-03 15:59:29 UTC

they should've made it not suck penis

2018-07-03 16:00:14 UTC

maybe make a smaller 5.56 version of a M60 or M240, or steal the soviet design and make a 5.56 RPD

The semi-auto conversions for civilian use are finicky

2018-07-04 02:27:03 UTC

Original Full-auto RPDs are incredibly reliable and they're still used today in heavy combat around the world even though they were designed in 1945

2018-07-04 02:28:30 UTC

The RPK replaced the RPD in the 60s only so that standard infantry and machine gunners could interchange magazines so no one person ran out of ammo unless the entire squad ran out of ammo
