Meant for hunting Big Game. But totally unregulated. Why it's allowed to have a Suppressor because compressed gas propels the bullet instead of an contained explosion.
Do suppressors make guns more dangerous?
Sure a Traditional Firearm and out perform it no doubt. But point is. Decent range. And can kill a person just as easily too.
No.
Suppressors just reduce noise of the gun being fired. IE so it does less damage to your ear drums and safer to fire.
As for the myth that a Silencer or Suppressor can make a gun 100% silent like in movies and video games. Total Bullshit.
@DanielKO By the progressives measure, since it requires more regulation, yes.
Kinda like how just shooting a gas tank of a car makes it explode like unstable Nitroglycerin.
```
A typical gunshot is around 150-160 decibels, a level that can cause hearing damage. Suppressors can reduce that sound by around 20-30 decibels, depending on the gun, ammunition, temperature and even humidity.
[...]
It’s important to note that suppressors are intended to lower the sound for the shooter, not the target. Jeremy Mallette, who has researched suppressors for Silencer Shop, estimated the sound of suppressed gunfire would go up 10 to 15 decibels downrange -- making the impact of the suppressor even lower for those on the receiving end.```
So they make the sound louder for the target.
Unless your shooting that Gas tank with incendiary rounds. Or an RPG odds are extremely low to ignite the gasoline and cause the iconic explosion.
Yeah.
It's basically just fancy hearing protection for the operator.
If it were possible to make guns 100% silent. Every gun in the Armed forced would have them.
Every grunt. Marine etc. Not solely spec ops. That would be an extreme combat advantage.
They go for a more practical solution, kill the target before the sound waves arrive.
BRRRRRRRRRT
Comparative to the cost of the firearm itself. A suppressor is nothing.
Not to mention sound is typically what is used to identify the direction and location of an attack.
If you could shoot without making a peep. Your enemy would stand no chance.
The reason Camouflage is so common is because it makes it harder for the enemy to spot ya. They'll know which direction the shooting is coming from. So if your harder to spot. It negates that problem a bit. Totally silent guns would be so effective in combat that a Marine could go into battle dressed as a clown and still be competent in achieving the mission objective.
help looking for FNAL around eastern PA
@DanConway 30k? Defaq?
@Somnio Hey, the 249 is all we have for high volume suppressive fire in 5.56. 7.62 NATO is nice, but sometimes you just need a big cone of lead.
they should've made it not suck penis
maybe make a smaller 5.56 version of a M60 or M240, or steal the soviet design and make a 5.56 RPD
