One reason the Left has done so well is that they are totally fine with lying to their base, and then moving further Left than them. Also their greater strength is accepting marginal gains, not everything has to be perfect. Trump is doing this. Imagine how many Ted Cruz Republicans would have been okay talking about ending birthright citizenship during the election. Not that many. Now that we are so polarized, I bet tons of them are onboard.
