Yeah I'm gonna have to go with this being an overall good thing if done properly and with caution
I'm sceptical of gene editing. Too many uncharted waters.
Can we remove certain physical limitations? Muscle mass, height, weight, bone density? What about things like pain receptors?
Can we remove or edit things that have a negative effect on the human condition - keep ourselves more focused and higher achieving? What about removing empathy? Or certain inclinations of free will?
Is the end result even human?
@bspon002 what better a destiny for man but to see every uncharted water mapped
We're more likely & closer to having a worldwide technological collapse than we are to colonizing other planets
Yeah, I'm generally opposed. I certainly don't think we should *initiate* it, but if we have to do a little bit just to stay competitive... 🤷
@Papa Pizzagate You can already remove emotions by cutting certain parts of the brain
We've got like 5 billion years before the sun implodes I'm sure we're gonna get there
Gonna gene edit my kids to be smaller so we can have gnome villages
I also don’t see anything wrong with making traits which are already well represented in our population even more popular, such as strength and objective reasoning. Also if we tone down this super gay pathological altruism it would lessen the risk of our people becoming soft and repeating history
@ChippedStones hell yeah
@Kingfish personally I think it'd be far safer just to let people reproduce and have kids wihh stronger people if possible. Messing with genomes could backfire hard
Can we start Identity Grandmas Garden?
Look guys. Gene editing is like identity politics. Once one group does it, you need to do it or you're screwed.
@ChippedStones I'm in
I think we already have meddled with evolution so much we've drastically affected it. Might as well direct in ourselves now
Good point Jacob
Gene-editing our kids to have brutally unyielding in-group preference <:usinnoodle:420778112226164736>
@Jacob not sure about that. What if gene editing leads to long term consequences like the lack of fertility
Ah yes gene editing
We cant really adapt to anything but modern civilization anymore so we might end up needing to do it anyway

Edit genes enough, you're no longer white but some new race
gene-editing + advances in AI = bad time for humans
eventually we'll build our replacements
@missliterallywho hot take I don't care
No
Right, but the end result may not even be man, is my point @Kingfish - but some aberration build upon the husk of what man was. We may end up creating a new "Race" or subspecies, that may not look kindly on us as their intellectual and physical lessers.
I for one will welcome our new super human replicant overlords
There's some things I just don't think man was meant to tamper with. It's like playing God. Could backfire hard
@Goose ...or our replacements will "build" us <:nervous:359009898115104770>
Gene edit till we become food from sausage party
Lmao I'd love to see designer babies all be sterile
If my line is healthier, Stabler, more successful line than before I don't care if I'm evropan
> Be Chinese gene editing company
> Have different gene options/packages available, ranging from mitigating health issues to choosing race
> Provide lowkey incentives for parents who choose nonwhite children
> Profit from special interest groups subsidizing such business behavior
I don't trust governments to actually regulate this responsibly.
If we secure our future and use these technologies to our advantage it wont matter
one major concern are backdoor flaws in the "design" of said engineered human
I want gene editing so we can end the manlet health crisis
It’s not like completely foreign genes are being added, just making the top ten percent more like the top 80 percent
@TylerHess Pretty naive to think this tech would aid in equity.
