I'm not self hating or whatever. I genuinely care about my fellow 2nd generation immigrants, but part of caring about them is acknowledging that our community has a lot of problems.
The WASPs, despite how they are now, used to be pretty damn tough on integration. My grandfather had to convert to marry my grandmother.
My fathers first language was Italian And i can barely understand my grandpas English lol
lol my first language was Polish
Hello [[[my fellow 2nd gen immigrants]]]
hahaha
Are you subverting the immigrant community
unironically yes
@Jacob How do pronounce stuffed cabage? Halupki?
it's gołąbki in Polish
My great grandmother apparently tried to teach me some Danish (I don’t remember, she died when I was 6,) but I refused and apparently told her “Danish is icky.”
Do you have a polish setting on your keyboard
I stand by that tbh, it’s a horrible language.
ł is pronounced like w and idk how to explain the pronunciation of ą but it sounds like a French vowel
@Asatru Artist - MD Lol...just got that.
Is it nasal or something
Ha
Ashamed to say I don't
Yeah @ophiuchus but let's not kid ourselves. Every immigrant community changes the nation. Washington wasn't dropping his kids off at kindergarten and going to grab a brew at the biergarten. It's just that over 3 generations, whites tend to assimilate and we don't really care too much if our culture becomes adulterated with more bierhauses and Irish pubs and Italian food after a while
@fgtveassassin yes I do
Press 2 for English
Press 3 for English
*hiccups in Danish*
Oops just said like 10 words
BILINGUALS GTFO 😂
But race is really the thing we can't overcome. Chinatown will never feel like America. Nor will Mexican neighborhoods. Etc.
I unironically think you guys should use me as a tool. I just don't feel morally right coming here and lying to people. If my community has problems I'll admit it.
@Mr Snow unless it’s in Europe in which case preserve those cultures
Based legal 2nd generation dual citizen immigrant
I’m not meaningfully French, but did learn French when I lived in Montreal as a kid with my aunt. My great-grandfather was an oppressive Anglo banker in Quebec.
Europe luckily has extremely similar people and cultures, which sets us apart from literally the rest of the Planet
To be honest I consider it in my best interests to just tell the truth. My friends and I went through a lot of problems growing up like this.
Sure. I like the generic identity for a few countries as a European outpost
If you aren't learning German to Yödel at your local hofbrau, what are you even doing?
But yes if a European identity has any chance it'll be here. Because identity is both internally and externally derived. If you think of yourself as Polish and I think of myself as German but our political adversaries see us as "white" well then hey brother, welcome to the tribe
The people that think a) America has no culture or b) American culture and European culture are super different have clearly never been to a non-western country
I wonder what percent of IE is second gen. Probably very disproportionate compared to the broader white population
I’m gonna drop you in the middle of China, come back and tell me how different the culture of the US and the UK are.
@NateDahl76 second Gen here actually
I’d prefer that the culture between European countries be distinct
