Which is why I told my 2nd Gen northern Italian coworker yesterday that in New America, only whites can vote and immigrants can only vote after 3 generations so as not to disrupt the the native vote. It's true though. Generationally his father is Italian, speaks Italian, and loves Italy. His son doesn't speak Italian but still has a slight affinity for Italy and travels there occasionally. But his kids will have about as much attachment to Italy as I do to Germany which is nothing at all.

Yeah @ophiuchus but let's not kid ourselves. Every immigrant community changes the nation. Washington wasn't dropping his kids off at kindergarten and going to grab a brew at the biergarten. It's just that over 3 generations, whites tend to assimilate and we don't really care too much if our culture becomes adulterated with more bierhauses and Irish pubs and Italian food after a while

I’m not meaningfully French, but did learn French when I lived in Montreal as a kid with my aunt. My great-grandfather was an oppressive Anglo banker in Quebec.
