Don't disagree, I have a great milsurp place down the block from me.

But sometimes with milsurp stuff, weight isn't much of a consideration - depending on age - which is critical for backpacking

good stuff can be had somewhat cheaply if you do your research very carefully.

"Best budget backpacking xxx" brings up lots of listicles with valuable info.
