Not quite sure how to get this to link directly to the telegram group but copy paste into a url then switch to the app and you should be g2g.

So I saw the cheap $25 radio and got mixed reviews. What's the least you can spend for a radio what's worth a fuck.

2020-04-28 02:41:09 UTC

If you're going above Baofeng, the Yaesu brand has a good following. Same with Wouxun.

2020-04-28 02:42:13 UTC

When it comes to cheap radios, steer away from "Onn" brand. They're trash

2020-04-28 02:45:10 UTC

Thanks ill look into both of the other brands

2020-04-28 03:29:33 UTC

So around $100 is the minimum starting price.

@[TX]YimYam You wanted something over the $25 starters, this is the next tier.

2020-04-28 03:33:46 UTC

But they are worth while right?

2020-04-28 03:35:08 UTC

Ham operators swear by them. You will eventually upgrade if the bug bites you.

2020-04-28 03:37:41 UTC

Ok cool I wanted a good one for emergency use and there is no signal where I hunt and my buddy and I both wanted one. Thank you so much.

2020-04-28 03:41:42 UTC

Read up on MURS, FRS, and GMRS. Those are FCC regulated frequency bands. MURS and FRS are unlicensed while GMRS is licensed but no test. It is a $70 application fee good for 10 years.

2020-04-28 03:42:29 UTC

Hmmm I have some reading to do

2020-04-28 04:09:27 UTC

It's quite fun and useful to get two radios and see how well they work out where you hunt. You'll probably be disappointed at the distance at first but then you buy better antennas and learn how to make it work for you

2020-04-28 14:27:39 UTC

I found that the Motorola T465's are awesome. Multiple ways to charge them, 35 mile range, around $85 for two of them. There's multi-packs up to 8 and 10 on Amazon I believe.

2020-04-28 14:35:03 UTC

For the price, baofengs may be more versatile. Of course there's way better, stuff like higher end Motorola, kenwood, yaesu, and so on

2020-04-28 14:36:06 UTC

Yeah, I’ve fucked with Motorola and that’s some badass shit.

2020-04-28 14:42:12 UTC

Motorola's real products, not the consumer grade soccer mom road trip stuff, is built like a tank. Very robust equipment.

2020-04-28 14:43:08 UTC

My dumbass coworkers still manage to break them though >.>

2020-04-28 14:44:22 UTC

Me being around a FD, I can attest

2020-04-28 14:47:28 UTC

The T465 are like, medium-duty consumer radios. Not total junk like most FRS radios, but they're still limited by the FRS rules (2 watts, fixed antenna) and the price indicates they're not quite as durable as a $3000 APX. But for hunters or whatever they probably work great

If it fits your needs, go for it. Personally i have a uv-82 but whatever you go with, I'd suggest getting an extended battery and a nagoya antenna

2020-04-28 17:59:48 UTC

You need the cable too right to program it?
