Its because many jobs can't be performed online, and when states or countries go on lockdown those people don't have a job basically.

It depends but I think it's mostly temporary.

That's still at least a few months of what's essentially unemployment though, which isn't sustainable for many people.

Are people who got laid off getting financial support?

That also depends, so i can't really give a concrete answer there.

A lot are filing for unemployment though as well.
