"I voted republican, then claimed i voted dem! How dare the machine switch me to republican!"

2018-10-30 13:53:22 UTC

Sounds really dodgy to me, definitely someone trying to create scandal where there is none

2018-10-30 13:53:51 UTC

Could just be some damn bad miscalibration of the touchscreen

2018-10-30 13:53:55 UTC

this accusation is made every election isn't it?

By both sides.

2018-10-30 13:54:07 UTC

the respsonse is always "user error" or "callibration error"

2018-10-30 13:54:21 UTC

We actually had this happening in my area in 2016...but, the other way - Republican votes were being switched to Democrat...The workers were telling people to check their ballot before hitting submit

2018-10-30 13:54:23 UTC

if they're rigging the machines, you won't actually see the vote flip, it'd do it after you're done

2018-10-30 13:55:35 UTC

The one I heard was that there were lots of cases where you had straight ticket boxes at the top and people would then check something different down-ballot.

I mean, if you were writing the software, what are you supposed to do? The point of straight ticket is to make things simple and easy. So there's not a clear reason to display all the candidates already. And the answer is ambiguous if you do.

Link won't open for me.

@Poppy Rider I just checked and it's still up for me

2018-10-30 13:56:37 UTC

i remembe this making the rounds awhile back

2018-10-30 13:59:34 UTC

I can't even get to the Express site. How strange.

2018-10-30 15:00:06 UTC

I always go with paper ballots when I can.

2018-10-30 15:00:12 UTC

Easier to prove tampering.

2018-10-30 15:19:55 UTC

This doesn't even make any fucking sense. Their pivotal lie is that the emoluments clause has anything to say about the location of the FBI, even though the matter involves _no foreign state, king, or prince_.

2018-10-30 15:20:33 UTC

It is my _opinion_, you see, that most pigs are yellow, and the sky appears red to everyone except you.

2018-10-30 15:23:30 UTC

They may mean the 'domestic' emoluments clause, which is honestly just as inapplicable.
`The President shall, at stated Times, receive for his Services, a Compensation, which shall neither be increased nor diminished during the Period for which he shall have been elected, and he shall not receive within that Period any other Emolument from the United States, or any of them.`

2018-10-30 15:24:16 UTC

I think they're trying to imply that having the FBI HQ across the street from a Trump hotel is somehow increasing its revenue and is therefore some sort of additional payment to him above his salary.

2018-10-30 15:24:52 UTC

They're gonna strain their muscles stretching that hard.

2018-10-30 15:25:43 UTC

Which is nonsense for two reasons: a) it's not like that building is going to cease to exist if the FBI leaves; another federal department will take it over. and b) even if Trump has been receiving revenue from FBI patronage to his hotel (unproven) then keeping them there will neither increase or diminish that revenue.

2018-10-30 15:26:27 UTC

Moreover, he's the *fucking president*. He can decide where he wants *federal departments* be be headquartered, just like Obama apparently did when he approved the move.

2018-10-30 15:26:53 UTC

@Atkins The U.S. is not a foreign state.

2018-10-30 15:27:20 UTC

It is not a violation of the emoluments clause for the president to receive money from the U.S. government.

2018-10-30 15:27:21 UTC

This also fits into his campaign promise to cut federal spending, and his more recent promise to force all federal departments to cut 5% of their budgets. The FBI has worked with this headquarters for decades, they can keep using it.

2018-10-30 15:27:25 UTC

even _directly_

2018-10-30 15:27:48 UTC

You're thinking of the foreign emoluments clause. There's also a domestic one, quoted above.

2018-10-30 15:27:59 UTC

But it also is inapplicable.

2018-10-30 15:28:13 UTC

This entire article is bullshit. I'm agreeing with you.
