I think that's the part that really has so many people looking at this and immediately thinking it has to be some kind of bigger plan, some greater event, some sinister hand behind the curtain pulling the puppet strings.

If he was just some crazy moron without a plan... his target selection was weirdly precise.

If he is actually intelligent... or whoever controlled him is intelligent if you want to go conspiracy theory...
Then ... yeah... it's either a huge false flag op by the dems and they were too stupid to target active candidates to give individual boosts, they just picked big names to make mainstream news. (Which would fit their NPC level logic circuits.)
Or there's another step of this yet to come out as the entire story gets twisted at the last minute to reveal something similar to what I suggested.

I'm not saying either of these are accurate, he really could've just picked his targets via dumb luck selection. But again, the weirdly specific and narrow choices he hit on are what is prompting these suspicions.

i think it's a bit too much to expect some nutter with a dozen priors to be intelligent enough to think of or even participate in a plan like that

2018-10-27 18:47:22 UTC

simplest and most likely case, he's just some random trumpist who snapped and tried sending bombs to high profile targets despite being ignorant on how to make them

2018-10-27 18:48:05 UTC

I rather agree with that statement myself, I was merely toying with the reason why it has the easy makings of a big conspiracy theory.

2018-10-27 18:49:17 UTC

oh, aye
he carried it out so spectacularly and dramatically but without any competence or chance at success, it really invites conspiracy theories

2018-10-27 18:49:40 UTC

my natural reaction is "nobody can *really* be that stupid, surely"

2018-10-27 18:50:23 UTC

but they can, apparently

2018-10-27 18:55:02 UTC

That is kinda one of the big things that lends this whole situation a level of unrealistic incompotence that begs for conspiracy theories.
The one thing a bomber needs to do is... make bombs that can actually go off. And he failed to accomplish even that. So... Yeah.

DB admits shooter was anti Trump. People calling him the “ MAGA Shooter” are spreading fake news.

Agreed. This guy is the horseshoe where right and left come close together at the extremes. He's no more the Repubs than Timothy McVeigh was. If anything, Trump's "fault" would have been letting his daughter marry a Jew. Oh I can imagine how THAT point would go over.

@Exiled Sentinel How dare you let any facts get in the way of the Narative!

I’ve been a bad boy.

2018-10-28 17:40:37 UTC

The horseshoe theory debate is a function of discussing a plethora of positions on complex issues along a single categorical axis. When can it die?

2018-10-28 17:42:54 UTC

It's hard for human beings with our limited brains to give up simplistic models

2018-10-28 18:09:36 UTC

Whoops, how'd that happen?

2018-10-30 13:54:21 UTC

We actually had this happening in my area in 2016...but, the other way - Republican votes were being switched to Democrat...The workers were telling people to check their ballot before hitting submit

2018-10-30 13:54:23 UTC

if they're rigging the machines, you won't actually see the vote flip, it'd do it after you're done

2018-10-30 13:55:35 UTC

The one I heard was that there were lots of cases where you had straight ticket boxes at the top and people would then check something different down-ballot.

I mean, if you were writing the software, what are you supposed to do? The point of straight ticket is to make things simple and easy. So there's not a clear reason to display all the candidates already. And the answer is ambiguous if you do.
