Greetings

The nsfw ban makes sense though

with the current climate you don't want to give any of the political opponents anything to hang you with

I think it's got a good logical basis

@Alexanderjac Do you really think we could keep them out?

That's true but keeping everything perfectly "equal" or "even steven" is impossible to accomplish because of the natural human condition.

We just have to do the best we can and accept some dissention within reason. Things are rarely ever perfect.

Amen on the furry artist comment. I remember browsing deviant art in my youth. It was always a beautiful and slightly disturbing experience

Always browse that shit now with parental locks on

@Alexanderjac Enjoyed? Naw. It's not the worst thing in the world but I've probably never been exposed to the most extreme corners of it. It's whatever though. As long as everyone is having fun right?

I also tend to take the "live and let live "approach. I mean we are all strange to someone . It's more of a question of "what kind of filthy degenerate are you?" It's a spectrum and how weird you are depends on their position in relation to your own.

Plus I'm old and I've been on the internet for some time. While I avoid most of the freaky stuff directly, I've seen and heard about a lot of things.

The internet used to be the wild fucking west. With all the censoring and stuff now it's not nearly as bad lol

@Brokkr And what 'Vanilla' means also varies to different people.

True that.

Kids now don't even know what floppy disks are for.

I volunteered at a community center once and they were using old floppies for art projects.
Turning them into coasters

Kids had no idea what they were lol

Lol. To be fair I only know of him because of my father.

But take comfort in knowing that you are at least young and hip enough to have social media

I have zero social media.

I never know wtf is going on with anything or anyone.

Except what I get from the news, independent sources on youtube or just living in the general craziness.

@Alexanderjac Shhh the adults are talking

Never had facebook. The concept always creeped me out

I do have LinkedIn if that counts.

@Alexanderjac I'm just teasing. Like I said that more of my Dad's thing lol

If he wasn't a software engineer I would have zero fucking clue who that was.

@Brokkr At least I'm not as unplugged as I Thought
And yeah but when you are a kid you don't really care about that stuff, (Being the father of an invention, or even where something came from) Unless someone teaches you to respect it or think about it.

@Alexanderjac That's a good point. I think maybe he just mainstreamed the concept?

Maybe. I think it's just one of the tid-bits of knowledge that is nice to know but not crucial. You can still love games and stuff without knowing the expansive history. I think as older people we typically have a lot of respect for the things we remember or experienced. It's not bad the younger generation doesn't know about it or care.

They'll be in our shoes eventually too.

I also believe it would have happen regardless of slavery, mainly because of the ideological/power difference between the Northern and Southern states

How this would have played out in an alternative time line I'm not sure. Sure most civilizations have a civil war of sorts but why it happens and how it plays out depends on many factors.

I'm not an expert on that portion of American history so I'm open to ideas and theories.

The Civil war is always a hot button issue in American politics. Everyone has emotions and opinions tied up in it.

I just don't understand why the American public is so rabid about that issue.

I mean, for the sake of argument, it means either of those things. I just always come back to so what?

It can mean whatever. It's not worth beating people to death in the streets.

And is the "n-word" banned here? Are we not allowed to say it?

I've never understood why people are so ready to freak out about a word.

Even if someone uses it as insult against you. It's still just a word.

It's a problem. Especially when one side of the argument thinks they are righteous.

Doing Violence in the name of "righteous-ness" is always risk business.

And those are the most dangerous people to deal with

Whether it's religious righteous-ness or political.

It allows you to justify whatever you do.

Yes but it always swings back. Eventually. Today it's this group. 10 years from now who knows who it will be.

I sometimes feel like people cannot be balanced or neutral as a whole

As the pendulum swings back we get periods of balance in society but it always ends up going too far in some direction.

It's a really curious part of the human condition that I'm not sure how to address.

Is AntiFa, and BLM really that similar to the KKK?

I have almost zero interactions with the KKK in the modern day

So I have no idea what they are up to

BLM and AntiFa are running rampant. The KKK seems kinda dead to me

@Brokkr Watching it now.

I think I've seen some clips of it before

Hmmm I didn't know that about her.

@Gamer man boy boy boy man Do we consider the types of racism from minority communities to be coming from the left? I understand that main stream leftism has a lot of blatant well known racism, however in some minority communities you wouldn't believe the types of racism and beliefs that go on.

I just wouldn't classify that as a typical leftism but I'm not sure how other people see it.

I'm of African descent but I moved to The US as kid and I've seen some shit @Brokkr . Especially between the African American and Hispanic community.

@Jeremy Don't do anything to dox yourself. I'm sure I'm too stupid to know though. I'm socially retarded.

I'm not sure about the hispanic community but arent a lot of African american families "broken" in general though? I'm not sure they have a lot of emphasis on family

And @Brokkr I notice that a lot too. However I'm not from Africa, I'm from the UK. My father is from the UK and my mother is from the states

The native Africans I went to engineering school with are very different from the people who were born here but it's mostly cultural differences. They have to work hard to come here so the entitlement complex isn't there.

@Jeremy That is true in a lot of ways but not completely true in others.
I didn't last very long in North American Public schools. The other African American kids made my life hell.
I talked funny, I did my homework, and my Father was bi-racial.
I was huge target.
I still don't understand why it happened. I never understood the hatred I experienced. I thought I was part of the tribe by being black (or biracial myself) but I was an outsider.

@Jeremy Suppose that's what didn't make sense to me. I assumed the tribe was "all black people" It's still strange. That's a weird form of collectivism. It almost seems like it wasn't based on race at all

It was all behavioral. I got my ass beat every day after school. But White kids who adopted their behavior was okay. They'd get shit on sometimes but I got the worse bits of it

Wow Thanks @Mr. Jesus

Wow. I was way too fucking meek to act like that.

I was dorky, lanky, and very obedient.

I didn't shape up until high school

Until that point I just learned to be literal wall paper

Yeah, I think all kids are like that. I left school and travelled with my dad up until highschool. Spent a lot of time in International school which was good for me

Everyone is a cultural outcast in international school so you can't clique up based up on those things. I learned a lot about who I was during that time. Got into running and gymnastics during that time too. By the time I came back to the states I was much more confident and ready to knock someone on their ass if they bugged me.

I suppose. @Jeremy Have you seen the documentary "72%" I found it englightening

Kinda shocking

@Jeremy I thought it was different because it looked directly at the African Perspective on those issues. How they perceive it is interesting

I've heard that University in America are like that. I'm lucky enough to not have been exposed to it.

I went to a top 5 engineering school in the United States. You could only be an engineer at my University. We didn't have any other majors so a lot of that stuff didn't come up

I only heard about those things online.

Yeah that blew my mind. But we don't argue about gender or anything like that at my University. Everyone is struggling to stay alive and not get weeded out.

I'm now doing my graduate work in Boston for Bioengineering. Prepping for my MD/PhD and Wew lad are things different

I see all kinds of stupid shit now.

I miss the sanity of strictly technical Universities

@Brokkr Preach.

idk man I think every community has "unique" issues.
The Anglo-sphere with their white guilt and desire to destroy themselves is amazing to me
@Jeremy and @Brokkr

I think that's crazy unique. Never seen anything like it

Wow what a narrative I missed.
@lunemarie Are you from North America? I've never experienced the attitude that you are talking about amongst doctors. I'm pretty sheltered though. I'm coming from engineering and I'm just dipping my toe into medicine. It's probably too naive but I'd like to think I'm in it to help people. I'm on the struggle bus right now as it is prepping for this goddamn MD/PhD.

@Brokkr Respect for your background, even though I'm a bit more sentimental and flowery about the patients. I always kinda digged the Hippocratic Oath. I felt like it had a nice ring.

I'm very curious about male birth control and why that isn't more of a thing. I suppose male reproduction is harder to control since it's not a cyclic as the female counterpart. I also expect it would be a shit show to get funding for. I feel like people wouldn't take it well.

@Brokkr Enlighten me? I'm fucking retarded about this industry. I'm literally getting into it because I want to help people. Worked on a project were I got to interact with consumer/patients and changed my whole life plan

Oh I see. That kind of corruption. I heard about that happening with epipens too

Yeah that was appalling but this is on the prescription drug side. Like Pharma
Is there anything wrong with practicing physician side of medicine?

Wow dude that's fucked up

Jfc

Do you think it's the regulations or public ignorance that allows this to continue

I'm really surprised by that. I had no idea

Yeah it seems like a pretty multi-faceted topic.

I'm barely keeping up googling stuff and following the chat.

It's fucking interesting stuff though

yeah @Jeremy is there a book I can read to brush on the topic.
Maybe my childish and somewhat naive desire to help people could use some reconsideration.
I find the whole thing interesting though.
