I think you only read "We don't need or want to be rewarded" and didn't read the rest of it and completely misunderstood what I said

2018-04-08 11:11:12 UTC

try looking at the context

2018-04-08 11:11:17 UTC

I red all of it

2018-04-08 11:14:11 UTC

I was just saying that people value more what they recieve from the people in their immediate lives as opposed to "society" which is held as a much more distant concept in most people's minds.

2018-04-08 11:15:20 UTC

I thought you were responding to Agenten

2018-04-08 11:16:09 UTC

Yeah, his question of getting people to see the value of hard work. Basically it's taught through the reactions people in our lives have to our hard work.

2018-04-08 11:16:45 UTC

If we work hard and our parents/family/friends don't care, we won't work hard. If they show gratitude and we get some sort of reward that we enjoy, we'll generally keep it up.

You have changed your name to Muhammad Muhammad

this can only end well

2018-04-08 11:21:44 UTC

He asked "how you get people to value hard work without getting getting rewarded by society". The way people get rewarded by society is with money. That's why I responded to you with "fuck that". Because I don't see value in hard work if I don't get payed for it

2018-04-08 11:22:13 UTC

That's why you shouldn't only reward people with money.

2018-04-08 11:22:28 UTC

People need to know there are other rewards for hard work.

2018-04-08 11:22:38 UTC

Such as getting to be around other hard working people.

2018-04-08 11:22:49 UTC

Who are generally well put together and valuable people.

2018-04-08 11:23:49 UTC

You can't raise a child just on money. It can certainly be useful but it has an end as a teaching tool.

2018-04-08 11:23:51 UTC

Hard work is only valuable either because you genuinely love what you do, or if you get payed for it

2018-04-08 11:23:59 UTC

Working hard wont automatically put you with hardwarking people

2018-04-08 11:24:12 UTC

Absolutely not. Hard work is valuable because it can make the world a better place in so many ways.

2018-04-08 11:24:15 UTC

Its more likely to be somewhere where youre just carrying a bunch of slobs

You don't choose to be gay

2018-04-08 11:24:34 UTC

I mean on a personal level

2018-04-08 11:24:43 UTC

That was just an example, obviously there are no guarantees.

2018-04-08 11:24:51 UTC

The fact it helps society is why you get paid

2018-04-08 11:25:17 UTC

But you don't do it to help society, you do it to get paid

2018-04-08 11:25:23 UTC

There are people out there who neither get paid enough nor enjoy what they do, but do it anyway.

2018-04-08 11:26:15 UTC

Even when they don't really have to.

2018-04-08 11:26:45 UTC

I find it very strange that you think money is the only way to get people to do things.

2018-04-08 11:26:47 UTC

I didn't say "enjoy", I said love. If they do it despite not getting paid, than they do it because they love thier work

2018-04-08 11:27:04 UTC

You've got to be kidding.

2018-04-08 11:27:14 UTC

You're mincing words like a wordchef.

2018-04-08 11:27:27 UTC

That's what I meant

2018-04-08 11:27:33 UTC

2018-04-08 11:28:33 UTC

IMO there's plenty more to it than that.

2018-04-08 11:29:10 UTC

I don't know why you think there needs to be another reward

2018-04-08 11:29:34 UTC

I already said, money isn't the only thing people want.

2018-04-08 11:29:46 UTC

You give somthing to society, and you get something back in return (money)

2018-04-08 11:29:52 UTC

That hiw it works

2018-04-08 11:30:03 UTC

That hiw it should work

2018-04-08 11:30:07 UTC

and that's just one aspect of life

2018-04-08 11:30:28 UTC

and there's the whole rest of being a person and having wants and needs

2018-04-08 11:30:31 UTC

the money is the most important factor. its absence poses the entire problem

2018-04-08 11:31:28 UTC

Again, the other reason you might put effort into something is because you find satisfaction in it (again, doesn't mean you necessarily enjoy it)

2018-04-08 11:31:45 UTC

As you pointed out Baraban, money just represents value, so all you need to be able to offer is anything that someone values.

2018-04-08 11:32:04 UTC

Which could even just be jokes.

2018-04-08 11:32:06 UTC

the insult makes it harder to find the satisfaction

2018-04-08 11:32:22 UTC

Some people work hard just to hear some jokes and have some laughs.

2018-04-08 11:32:52 UTC

nobody is going to work for the jokes

2018-04-08 11:32:56 UTC

I guess you could ask for something else other than money, but l don't know why you would

2018-04-08 11:33:07 UTC

probably not for too long, no, but it's an example

2018-04-08 11:33:08 UTC

Money is simpler

2018-04-08 11:33:20 UTC

in fact if you have a good sense of humor it might be hardert to get people to work hard

2018-04-08 11:33:25 UTC

anyway, obviously I don't know how to explain this to you

2018-04-08 11:33:41 UTC

I tried

2018-04-08 11:33:50 UTC

Maybe

2018-04-08 11:33:55 UTC

now it's just frustrating

2018-04-08 11:34:06 UTC

I can't take care of people by giving them nice feelings to have, and i can't get them to do anything, because i suppose they dont see how their skills might carry over

2018-04-08 11:34:34 UTC

well taking care of people isn't the same as encouraging hard work

2018-04-08 11:34:44 UTC

we're obviously thinking on different wavelengths

2018-04-08 11:34:48 UTC

rightfully they shouldnt work hard where they actually are, but they shouldnt stagnate while theyre there

2018-04-08 11:35:42 UTC

It seems to be that it's the people who value hard work for reasons other than money that will be the ones to work hard even when they aren't getting paid well and don't "love" or "enjoy" it.

2018-04-08 11:36:03 UTC

Those people appreciate pure hard work and discipline because they know all the other benefits they bring.

2018-04-08 11:36:40 UTC

I mean, money is an aspect no doubt but not the whole picture.

2018-04-08 11:36:47 UTC

its the entire picture

2018-04-08 11:36:53 UTC

well we disagree

2018-04-08 11:36:56 UTC

lol

2018-04-08 11:37:11 UTC

I don't think you should work hard just for the sake of hard work, that just some pointless

2018-04-08 11:37:17 UTC

I'm not religious but to use religious imagery, God is the entire picture.

2018-04-08 11:37:21 UTC

so take that

2018-04-08 11:37:23 UTC

the problem is caused by lack of money, perhaps the scales being offbalance

2018-04-08 11:37:45 UTC

ok well, money is god, in the particular situation

2018-04-08 11:38:19 UTC

how about this--how do i get them to value the development of their skillset? i am not trying to fill them with virtue

2018-04-08 11:38:41 UTC

a gun

2018-04-08 11:38:45 UTC

how about that

2018-04-08 11:38:49 UTC

throw em in chains

2018-04-08 11:38:59 UTC

you want them to have the skills they need and theyre in a place where their practice only benefits someone else

2018-04-08 11:39:17 UTC

make em forget their names

2018-04-08 11:39:24 UTC

someone else will do that to them

2018-04-08 11:39:27 UTC

only let them see the sun once a day

2018-04-08 11:39:33 UTC

that'll do the trick

2018-04-08 11:39:42 UTC

<:think_woke:378717098681171988>

2018-04-08 11:41:43 UTC

maybe my question lacks articulation

2018-04-08 11:44:29 UTC

lets say i work a deadend job and i have a sideventure on weekends and i need some people. i work with 10 dummies and 2 smart people who are lazy at their job because why shouldnt they be. i need them to demonstrate some basic proficiencies and a desire to improve themselves so we can all make money together on weekends or i won't even think of them.

2018-04-08 11:47:10 UTC

find out what they want and give it to them

2018-04-08 11:47:18 UTC

money

2018-04-08 11:47:24 UTC

hint: maybe not

2018-04-08 11:47:32 UTC

you jus have to think better than that

2018-04-08 11:48:11 UTC

like maybe it's a cool product that they'd feel proud contributing to

2018-04-08 11:48:19 UTC

on top of the potential for money

2018-04-08 11:48:48 UTC

Im just saying you're gonna have to have a lot of money if that's your only selling point

2018-04-08 11:49:01 UTC

if it's a shit project then no one is going to want to do it

2018-04-08 11:49:10 UTC

but you probably shouldn't be asking me anyway

2018-04-08 11:49:18 UTC

they wont even know about it until someone sees them working

2018-04-08 11:49:19 UTC

like I said, check out How to Win Friends and Influence People
