if it never stopped i would believe it but

Because it behaves according to our predictions of how the earth's spin would act.

2019-05-18 02:01:41 UTC

i dont think foucault pendulum proves anything

Derek I swear if you keep making claims without evidence or understanding, you're not gonna like what's to come.

2019-05-18 02:02:24 UTC

im not a scientist but if it needs to be restarted and can move in any direction

2019-05-18 02:02:36 UTC

just the fact it needs to be restarted makes no sense

How does that disprove the experiment?

2019-05-18 02:02:52 UTC

the spin of the earth is moving the pendulum right

No, it is influencing it. Totally different.

2019-05-18 02:03:30 UTC

so the pendulum always swings the same way every foucault pendulum in the world ?

2019-05-18 02:03:48 UTC

derek just said it doesnt

2019-05-18 02:04:06 UTC

u guys should hash this out my wifes giving me the angry face cause she knows im flat earth chatting

2019-05-18 02:04:14 UTC

ill get up with u tomorrow maybe

Did he provide evidence?

He just said "it doesn't"

2019-05-18 02:04:22 UTC

he posted a meme

No for the meme.

Memes don't prove anything.

2019-05-18 02:04:50 UTC

i know but u are certain the all swing the same way ?

Well, depending on their coordinates, techincally yes

2019-05-18 02:06:01 UTC

so it depends where they are on earth

2019-05-18 02:06:09 UTC

this seems suspicious imma look it up later

There's the article

You're a globe earther, right?

2019-05-18 02:15:47 UTC

Yep

What did you think of the debate?

Why are you one?

2019-05-18 02:16:41 UTC

I'm not very good at explaining things, but

2019-05-18 02:17:36 UTC

I believe the debate is just another argument over something as big as the Earth

2019-05-18 02:17:43 UTC

(haha, get it?)

2019-05-18 02:18:32 UTC

One side seems to be supporting their claims then the other but the debate is good

๐Ÿค”

2019-05-18 02:19:08 UTC

@Derek Nelson By the way, the M-M experiment was meant to detect the existence of an Aether. Nothing to do with orbita velocity

is it?

2019-05-18 02:23:33 UTC

Incorrect, @ไบ•็€ฌๅทใƒšใƒˆใƒญ. The experiment was for the very purpose of proving earth movement. Orbital velocity being an obvious byproduct.

2019-05-18 02:25:11 UTC

Okay then.

Do you realize how it was done?

2019-05-18 02:25:59 UTC

Are you going to offer me proof? Or ask me questions all night?

2019-05-18 02:26:51 UTC

Oh hey abaddon

2019-05-18 02:26:52 UTC

yo derek off topic but do you go to dexter southfield

It compared theย speed of lightย in perpendicular directions, in an attempt to detect theย relative motionย of matter through the stationaryย luminiferous aetherย ("aether wind"). The result was negative, in that Michelson and Morley found no significant difference between the speed of light in the direction of movement through the presumed aether, and the speed at right angles.

It NEVER talked about the velocity of the Earth; it just said that the speed of light doesn't alter in relation to the position its source finds itself in.

When it says "We found no difference in speed..."

2019-05-18 02:30:36 UTC

Ok so the focault pendulum proves the coriolis force but isnโ€™t that force having to do with atmosphere spinning different speed depending on north south

2019-05-18 02:31:25 UTC

Holy crap, just found out that FTFE was arrested a while back for meth possession. That was why he was out for a few โ€œepisodesโ€ he blamed it on his โ€œpain.โ€ It makes sense, something looked off a few shows. Fidgety, shaking, constantly rubbing his face, sweating, etc. I kinda feel bad for him.

It's not that it's stationary, it's just that the speed of light doesn't change relative to its position on the Earth.

Thus disproving the Aether.

I literally have no clue how you get a flat earth from this.

2019-05-18 02:32:29 UTC

Youโ€™re conveniently forgetting to mention youโ€™re using a theory to postulate your claim.

no a scientific theory is an explanation of a natural observation, a scientific law is an observation of a natural phenomenon

@Derek Nelson So you ignore the first definition to pick the one that suits you? Cha cha, real smooth

2019-05-18 02:39:12 UTC

@Derek Nelson how about you look at the first one

2019-05-18 02:39:18 UTC

If a theory passes the scientific method in itโ€™s entirety, it ceases to be a theory.

2019-05-18 02:40:31 UTC

That's where you're wrong kiddo

@Derek Nelson The opposite, a scientific theory is an explanation of a natural event that can be *repeatedly tested and verified.*

2019-05-18 02:41:03 UTC

according to google โ€œA scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural worldโ€

2019-05-18 02:41:12 UTC

This is about gravity, correcT?

2019-05-18 02:41:14 UTC

If it doesnโ€™t, it remains a theory. And is often still cited as scientific theory, Being postulated as if itโ€™s proven, hoping the average joe is an idiot, and doesnโ€™t know what theyโ€™re saying.

2019-05-18 02:41:18 UTC

all hail google the knower of all

2019-05-18 02:41:34 UTC

read above @Derek Nelson

@Derek Nelson So you know more than someone who works on the field? ๐Ÿค”

2019-05-18 02:42:08 UTC

Scientific theory isnโ€™t the method that determines proof. The scientific method is.

2019-05-18 02:42:11 UTC

@Credibly Charted sorry its not its about what a scientific theory is

2019-05-18 02:42:30 UTC

what i said doesnt say that at all

2019-05-18 02:42:43 UTC

Well we can easily just search up the requirements of a scientific theory and it's definitions

2019-05-18 02:42:49 UTC

^

@Derek Nelson No, but the theory is put trough the scientific method.

A scientific theory explains a natural event of some sort. It makes predictions, and if said predictions are accurate and stand up to testing and verifiabilty, it remains as a theory.

2019-05-18 02:43:49 UTC

It shouldn't be a debate about what it is

2019-05-18 02:44:03 UTC

@Credibly Charted thats what im sayin man

Well if Derek was paying attention to what sort of theory I'm talking about, this wouldn't be a debate at all.

2019-05-18 02:44:25 UTC

^

2019-05-18 02:44:25 UTC

Scientific theory can take elements that are proven by the scientific method, and use it in their hypothesis. Like water being wet, for example. But a scientific theory can say something like, โ€œwater is wet, therefore ball earth.โ€ And still completely qualify as scientific theory, and Fail the scientific method.

*I'm refering to Derek*

2019-05-18 02:46:27 UTC

@Derek Nelson Sorry to tell you Derek but saying "water is wet, therefore ball earth.โ€ is an incorrect statement and the fact that that scientific theories have some type of explanation/proof to be their backbone

2019-05-18 02:47:05 UTC

If a hypothesis can be unequivocally proven. Thereโ€™s no need to even mention scientific theory. You would cite the scientific method.

Like, Derek, my man, boyo, compadre, home slice bread slice.

I literally study these subjects on a daily basis. I'm in college. I'm majoring in phyiscs, and, I'm afraid to say, you're wrong.

2019-05-18 02:47:50 UTC

But real scientists know that earth curvature for example, fails the scientific method for a ball earth of 24,901 miles in circumference.

2019-05-18 02:47:54 UTC

Do you know what a hypothesis is?

2019-05-18 02:48:04 UTC

@Derek Nelson actually it doesnt but ok

Derek, you are embarassing yourself.

2019-05-18 02:48:12 UTC
