its ridiculous

2018-12-29 14:42:55 UTC

It is. And they'll not have much more coverage than this.

reddit /u/Imnotmrabut posted a new link in /r/MensRights
The term “toxic masculinity” has become ubiquitous over the last few years after laboring obscurity for the better part of three decades - https://redd.it/aaknk0

2018-12-29 15:20:58 UTC

its hypocritical for feminists to claim to be the arbiters of what masculinity is to begin with; they criticism men for "mansplaining" over womens experiences,, yet do just that in reverse (and call it mansplaining to disagree!)

2018-12-29 15:34:13 UTC

That article says the term toxic masculinity was coined by an MRA...

2018-12-29 15:48:27 UTC

Well, the MMM, which I guess is one of the earlier men's movements. I think the article is flawed though in that the meaning and usage has completely changed since it came into the mainstream.

The origin of the particular phrase doesn't matter, because no one refers to it in that manner, not that the original manner was particularly good anyway

2018-12-29 15:49:23 UTC

I only skimmed it and several other topics so feel free to disagree with me if you think I'm wrong

2018-12-29 19:35:37 UTC

Of course there is such a thing as toxic masculinity.

2018-12-29 19:36:25 UTC

As like there is toxic femininity huh

2018-12-29 19:36:32 UTC

Yes, there is

2018-12-29 19:36:48 UTC

That's why it's unnecessarily gendered

2018-12-29 19:37:06 UTC

Except they are different phenomenons

2018-12-29 19:37:23 UTC

Men can also use psychological manipulation which is termed as toxic femininity

2018-12-29 19:37:38 UTC

Women can use violence too

2018-12-29 19:37:40 UTC

By who? It is not

2018-12-29 19:37:54 UTC

None of those things are linked to what you claim they are

2018-12-29 19:38:22 UTC

Emotional manipulation is primarily a female thing

2018-12-29 19:38:35 UTC

And not toxic femininity

2018-12-29 19:38:36 UTC

Like violence is primarily male

2018-12-29 19:39:18 UTC

And none of these things are related to either toxic masculinity or toxic femininity

2018-12-29 19:39:34 UTC

So what is your point?

2018-12-29 19:40:10 UTC

My point is when men are being violent, it's called toxic masculinity

2018-12-29 19:40:21 UTC

No it is not

2018-12-29 19:40:35 UTC

Anyone who says that is poorly informed

2018-12-29 19:40:38 UTC

And when women use emotional violence it's toxic femininity

2018-12-29 19:40:48 UTC

And Yet It Is Not

2018-12-29 19:41:07 UTC

It's the mainstream view though

2018-12-29 19:41:22 UTC

You keep making these ridiculous claims that show you have no clue what you are talking about, but it really is not

2018-12-29 19:41:33 UTC

Let's hear your definition of both

2018-12-29 19:44:17 UTC

Societal expectations of __________ that are harmful to the gender they are applied to.

IE hyperstoicism for men and unrealistic beauty standards for women

2018-12-29 19:48:19 UTC

When a man uses violence, your kind of scholars like Kimmel says that it's him seeking to be dominant than what he really is.

2018-12-29 19:48:35 UTC

My man Indigo, your passion is bright, but you come in guns-a-blazing, and it will hurt you more than help you in most cases, so I'm glad you asked for definitions. Add your own for the term "toxic" in reference to -ininities.

2018-12-29 19:48:57 UTC

Which is in fact a societal expectation of men to be dominant

2018-12-29 19:49:28 UTC

But is it harmful to that man?

2018-12-29 19:49:48 UTC

Violence? Then it is

2018-12-29 19:50:01 UTC

Dominance? Then it depends

2018-12-29 19:50:15 UTC

And specifically how is violence harmful to the man?

2018-12-29 19:50:28 UTC

I would not contest that society still views that men are to be the more dominant, but the definition of proper domination is changing, and the inequality is beginning to fade. This will be a totally different discussion in 20 years.

2018-12-29 19:51:16 UTC

@Dan da Dad just debating dude.

2018-12-29 19:51:37 UTC

Proper meaning actionable. Work/pay bills/make financial decisions/decide where family lives - currently still expected of men moreso than women
