It's a similar trick the Jews pulled when they conquered Israel, although in their case it was more relatable, but still immoral.

The moment China stops trying to gobble up other nations, that's when we can maybe start considering it nationalist. Until then it's not a fitting label.

China had been planning military bases around India, also been invading Bhutan to build roads to India, it obviously wants to invade India. They have the debit generating belt and road that many developing African countries have falling into, also they have been kinda planning an invasion of Taiwan.
So why would they do that? Power of course.

2019-10-20 15:00:30 UTC

Yep

2019-10-20 15:00:46 UTC

Slow and methodical these days, slow and methodical. Subversion over time, not brutal regime change.

2019-10-20 15:01:34 UTC

It's the core of China's whole policy, both nationally and internationally

2019-10-20 15:02:07 UTC

If you take babysteps, people will eventually either forget, or get tired, or just get replaced by a new generation that doesn't remember

A painless conquest

2019-10-20 15:09:24 UTC

aye, i was becoming complacent in the idea to start buying things from China, its so cheap! but reality is they want to specialize in manufacture make it impossible for competitors and then they can jack the price up, also in doing this they are racking up a massive debit for them selves. Hopefully that debit pops. And the party falls.

2019-10-20 15:10:44 UTC

that might be a bit incoherent of me, 2 am bed time.

2019-10-20 15:27:15 UTC

i fail to see how expanding means not nationalist

2019-10-20 15:43:01 UTC

Well alright, I ready some more about it and apparently the term expansionist nationalism exists

2019-10-20 15:44:18 UTC

Not a term that I've ever heard being used before, but I'll have to learn about it before I can say if I consider it valid or not. So I concede, you have a point.

2019-10-20 22:20:30 UTC

China is nationalist, but it's a different kind of nationalism than we're used to. It's an assimilationist nationalism - absorb everything, make it chinese. Plus old school imperial and strategic planning (take stuff over and make it serve the state)

One China is not about "everything within these borders should be unified".
One China is about "Everything will become China"

2019-10-20 23:54:39 UTC

"We are the Borg. Lower your shields and surrender your ship. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile."

2019-10-20 23:59:04 UTC

SHATTAP USA BOI NOT CHINESE ENOUGH YOU NEED USE MOAR SWOGANS

2019-10-20 23:59:07 UTC

2019-10-20 23:59:10 UTC

But seriously...

2019-10-21 10:07:53 UTC

"Ruptly is live from outside Westminster Magistrates Court in London on Monday, October 21, as a hearing is held to determine whether Julian Assange can be released from prison.

Assange has been ordered to appear before the court in person. The 48-year old WikiLeaks' founder has been held in custody at Belmarsh prison in London since being dragged out of Ecuador’s embassy last April. He’s currently fighting extradition to the US where he may face up to 175 years in jail if convicted.

Assange supporters have called for a gathering outside the court."

Chile needs the 2nd amendment

2019-10-22 10:17:27 UTC

@ETBrooD over here

2019-10-22 10:17:49 UTC

We should be in the debate channel actually

2019-10-22 10:18:19 UTC

I don't think this is debate worthy.

2019-10-22 10:18:23 UTC

It isn't heated enough.

2019-10-22 10:29:22 UTC

I don't usually post in here but I was just having a shower thought and figured I'd share - just how many of the social, political, economic and cultural problems that humanity is having (and has had for the past 100 years) can be traced back to Karl Marx?

2019-10-22 10:29:36 UTC

Seems like damn near every single one.

2019-10-22 10:29:47 UTC

What do you fellas think?

2019-10-22 10:32:13 UTC

Eh, maybe, a lot of issues are caused by human nature as well.

2019-10-22 10:32:25 UTC

Fractional reserve banking seems to have caused a lot as well

2019-10-22 10:32:45 UTC

Yeah, I suppose if ol' Karl had never existed, there'd still be bad ideas from another source

2019-10-22 10:32:48 UTC

That too, Silent.

2019-10-22 10:33:31 UTC

Just boggles my mind a little bit how influential on the course of human history Marx has been

2019-10-22 11:38:34 UTC

I dont know id say that. Communism is at its root plutocracy, and those have been around forever.

2019-10-22 11:39:26 UTC

All Marx did was put a rational/humanitarian veneer over it.

2019-10-22 12:14:30 UTC

But plutocracy is highly unequal in all regards

2019-10-22 12:15:56 UTC

The mighty and the wealthy rule over the rest to maintain their power, and the common man has either legally no voting rights, or effectively, since democracy gets undermined
