Brains are made of fat! Not to ape-post again but there is a reason chimps are more clever than gorillas and the reason is omnivorous diet. Also high fat meat frees up time to develop (proto) culture. Watch gorillas, all they do is graze, like a cow. Chimps are much more lively.

Without going into much detail, Becoming A Barbarian is a bit vague on identity and such. It's more about attacking the system as void and encouraging a community/tribe outside of the system and outside the culture. Not a whole lot for us to use in that aspect.
