We have laws that prevent the federal military from being used in a domestic role, except for nonviolent means

I think soldiers just can't take over American residents

They're often used for disaster relief or provide logistical support to other ongoing internal operations, but they're legally not supposed to get directly involved in conflicts, as that is supposed to be the role of the police and state agencies

So you can't demand people to let soldiers stay in their homes basically

With the border, I think the most expedient legal solution would be to build some shithouse bases near the border and have them maintain their own perimeters, which could conveniently mirror the border.
