My latest ancestor to the states came in 1844
He was German
@Jacob I think there are two sides to that coin
The settlers weren't so much people who couldn't make it, but people who were willing to go on a multi month voyage and build something new
Fair enough.
My ancestors were straight up crazy fanatics
So there's that
Religious fanatics?
Yeah
Based
I'm not sure. I think puritanism just morphed into SJWism
There's two sides in the sense that immigrants tend to be either very high skilled or very low skilled. The low skill people leave since they can't make it in their own country, and the high skill people leave since they have marketable skills that can make them massive money in the US. The middle people don't really have much reason to leave.
Who here /descendant of heartland farmers/
Gotta baste this bird real quick squirt squirt
I think it's more of a personality thing. Like "F my family dude I'm leaving" which explains why Americans are so itinerant.
Who else mayflower gang?
Real question is who else here is Magna Carta barons gang
Anyway, there's a lot of differences between settlers and immigrants of today. It took some really high agency to just grab what you could in one suitcase, go on a multi month voyage, and get started up without any organizational help.
My dad, for example, just hopped on a plane and had an organization resettle him. Absolutely not comparable to the guys on the Mayflower.
Jamestown gang gang
@Sam Southern - TN me to both fam
We’re probably kin of some sort
You in your local chapter of the barons? I’m joining up after this weekend
Mayflower gang (pretty sure). ⛵
That’d be a trip to find out we’re related
My most recent ancestor arrived in 1996 😬
KY old best friend, AL best friend now
@Sam Southern - TN idk if I’m Mayflower gang but my paternal grandmother’s line dates back to the first Scottish peoples arriving in North America in the 1600s.
I am not, but I’ve considered joining something along those lines. I could join sons of the American Revolution like a dozen times over lmao
Logan's great great etc grandfather was in George Washington's army
Most Americans of colonial British extraction are descended from Edward III, so we’re likely related obscurely
gosh you guys are making me jealous
Yeah I’m applying (really just means submitting the paperwork) to join the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Sons of American Revolution, and Magna Carta Barons. Looking forward to meeting them all and getting some really good contacts going forward in the local business community
@Conway - OK very based
tfw your ancestors fought on wrong side of Civil War <:sad:366743316475281408>
TN AL connection through the SAR/MCB going to run the Southeast 😎
My ancestors were in the same region for at least hundreds of years until my parents broke the tradition
I have white guilt but for opposite the normal reasons
@Sam Southern - TN could join sons of confederate veterans and sons of union veterans
Would be lol, am considering doing
@Jacob Americans trace back 400 years some Euro genealogies can be traced waaayyyyy back
