I think we could have easily known that there were no more WMD's. Hussein had used chemical weapons against his neighbors in the past. The fear of him using them again was the only thing keeping them at bay. Had he not been coy about still having them publicly, his enemies might have taken him out for us. I think he played a game of chicken for a long time and was in a no-win situation.
