German is the most common first language in Europe

2020-02-22 08:58:42 UTC

nordic languages are similar to german

2020-02-22 08:58:46 UTC

same with dutch

2020-02-22 08:58:49 UTC

english to an extent

2020-02-22 09:28:30 UTC

If you're unironically learning German as an additional language (not your first) in 2020, you're a bonafide Nazi

2020-02-22 11:10:13 UTC

It's common that people speak main language + german

2020-02-22 11:10:19 UTC

or that + english

2020-02-22 11:49:00 UTC

German and English is similar

2020-02-22 11:49:11 UTC

Due to the Anglo-Saxons being originally German

2020-02-22 13:14:24 UTC

@Dr.Cosby ```Only AMERICA matters``` So the Monroe Doctrine? 😛

2020-02-22 14:58:24 UTC

But Luxembourg has their own language

2020-02-22 21:15:42 UTC

English is earlier to learn tho

2020-02-22 21:16:21 UTC

"Luxembourgish" is just a bastard Dutch

2020-02-22 21:16:27 UTC

like Flemish

2020-02-22 21:16:47 UTC

it's like, Irish is a language but we all know it's a bastard English

2020-02-22 21:40:13 UTC

But as German takes the cake on being 1st language it would make sense for it to be German

2020-02-22 21:40:30 UTC

As no other English speaking country is in the eu

2020-02-22 21:46:53 UTC

Yeah but we don't care

2020-02-22 21:47:07 UTC

We want to keep our individuality

2020-02-22 21:47:24 UTC

You can go ahead and boot the United States of Europe crap

2020-02-22 21:49:53 UTC

Also if I have to consider every country that has influence, then because of NATO English would take the cake

2020-02-22 22:12:45 UTC

Well, if English would be the best choice then you can say “Hello United States of the West”

2020-02-22 23:05:28 UTC

I love trump.

@Katze Miaulitzer I think one reason that English has been used so commonly as a general language is because of the amount of nations (mainly former colonies) that have English as a first, second or third language

2020-02-23 09:42:41 UTC

And as nations like India grow, that becomes more important

2020-02-23 14:42:32 UTC

Tbh, if Hindi wants to become a well known language it needs to get rid of a lot of the dialects

2020-02-23 19:44:19 UTC

Plus Canada isn’t in Europe

2020-02-23 19:44:27 UTC

The US isn’t in Europe

2020-02-23 19:44:44 UTC

Australia is its own continent

2020-02-23 19:45:07 UTC

India is In Asia

2020-02-23 19:45:18 UTC

South Africa is obviously in Africa

2020-02-23 19:46:14 UTC

The only European colony of Britain is the Republic of Ireland

2020-02-23 19:46:34 UTC

Or country that was formerly British

2020-02-23 19:48:49 UTC

@TheBritishGamer ❤🔑 (Meh) I was talking about the EU not the world

2020-02-24 07:17:45 UTC

Hmm

2020-02-24 14:44:05 UTC

I doubt they'd be able to get rid of their dialects

2020-02-24 17:51:07 UTC

@Katze Miaulitzer malta, cyprus, gibraltar have all been or still are colonised by the uk

2020-02-24 18:19:40 UTC

Gibraltar isn’t even a country

2020-02-24 18:19:59 UTC

And Cyprus isn’t an English speaking country

2020-02-24 18:20:38 UTC

Only that cluster of islands aka Malta is a country that was under British rule that speaks English
