trump isnt that stupid

2019-07-24 13:50:43 UTC

not stupid at all

2019-07-24 13:50:46 UTC

but hes playing the game

2019-07-24 13:50:51 UTC

Governments will just take over energy and transportation. Create massive eco beurocracies that will never go away and we will just be poorer people on the cusp of a disaster

2019-07-24 13:51:07 UTC

you can incentivize renewable development without nationalizing the industry

2019-07-24 13:51:11 UTC

just provide tax incentives

2019-07-24 13:51:35 UTC

the oil industry as is receives massive subsidies

2019-07-24 13:51:48 UTC

People will buy green technology if they can afford it. Id buy an elecrric car tomorrow if i could. Takes time for things to get cheaper

2019-07-24 13:51:56 UTC

for sure

2019-07-24 13:52:00 UTC

I agree that they shouldnt

2019-07-24 13:52:02 UTC

Oil that is

2019-07-24 13:52:17 UTC

but the market is being purposefully blocked in its present state by incentivizing oil rather than domestic renewables

2019-07-24 13:52:40 UTC

even if that were reversed it wouldnt happen immiediately but it would happen much faster and would have positive impacts on the economy imo

2019-07-24 13:52:45 UTC

jobs and again less imports

2019-07-24 13:53:07 UTC

Agreed. Oil companies being involved with the government is a good indicator that green technology companies being involved with the government will also lead to corruption

2019-07-24 13:53:24 UTC

lobbying is an issue in general yeah

2019-07-24 13:53:33 UTC

military industrial complex

2019-07-24 13:53:35 UTC

the jail system

2019-07-24 13:53:36 UTC

as well

2019-07-24 13:53:45 UTC

big tech lobbys the left now

2019-07-24 13:54:48 UTC

@chuckayy what are these big oil subsidies? are you talking about the ability of oil corporations to write off expenses? That's just something businesses can do

2019-07-24 13:56:36 UTC

tax subsidies are when the government incentivizes the market by allowing certain industry or companies to pay less tax

2019-07-24 14:02:29 UTC

`In the United States, the federal government has paid US$145 billion for energy subsidies to support R&D for nuclear power ($85 billion) and fossil fuels ($60 billion) from 1950 to 2016. During this same timeframe, renewable energy technologies received a total of US $34 billion. `

2019-07-24 14:19:47 UTC

Never gonna get rid of lobbying in US am I right

2019-07-24 14:28:59 UTC

yeah idk what the solution is

2019-07-24 14:29:03 UTC

its a catch 22

2019-07-24 14:29:11 UTC

in a free open market

2019-07-24 14:29:14 UTC

you will have lobbying

2019-07-24 14:29:25 UTC

but then lobbying creates a less democratic system

2019-07-24 14:29:32 UTC

in some sense

2019-07-24 14:49:18 UTC

one could argue that lobbying is an extension of competitive market capitalism, by going straight to the government

2019-07-24 14:58:20 UTC

yeah for sure

2019-07-24 14:59:47 UTC

i tend to want to side with the completely open system which will include lobbying but it seems to incentivize detrimental practices such as war, large incarceration rates

2019-07-24 15:04:06 UTC

I agree

2019-07-24 15:10:05 UTC

@chuckayy those subsidies sound legit. I've heard people before include writing off expenses to inflate figures which is bs. But 60b in direct subsidies over 7 decades sounds accurate.

But idk if it's that crazy. It's been a while since I looked at it, but I think state local and federal taxes at the pump are 4x what oil company profits per gallon are. There are no comparable renewable taxes like that.

2019-07-24 15:25:05 UTC

shalom aleichem.

2019-07-24 15:30:49 UTC

anyone watching the mueller testimony

2019-07-24 15:47:31 UTC

Three years of American tax dollars wasted

2019-07-24 15:58:29 UTC

lol

2019-07-24 15:58:36 UTC

so you're not watching the testimony obviously
