@Misomania you sir ~~ are a liar and spreader of fake news ~~. Euthanasia is illegal in denmark. I Would like for you to source this opinion you are spreading.

2018-11-21 19:44:06 UTC

@tritrium you have been lied to

2018-11-21 20:45:11 UTC

looks like the New York Times published a big pile of <#399204742846349312>

@4AM_critter 🐉 you from denmark then?
I have no idea about denmark i only know its possible in belgium but under very strict conditions

2018-11-21 21:13:11 UTC

Yep, as the Americans say. I am a sugary piece of pastry

2018-11-21 22:04:29 UTC

Addendum:
It seems there was a mixup between denmark and netherlands, two tiny european countries.

2018-11-21 22:05:19 UTC

you mean two, don't you?

2018-11-21 22:05:35 UTC

Yep just edited 😃

2018-11-21 22:07:47 UTC

Danes and Dutch. The classic mixup.

2018-11-21 23:39:15 UTC

was juggling another article about the suicide tourism industry actually at the same time, and others about how certain advocate's activities are promoting the allowance of it's spread and others about the expansion of those cases in existing national laws and how they seem to be gaining traction as it spreads through other nations (canada and the US as well). Just swapped two of them in that giant stack of articles I was cross referencing.

I absolutely *love* articles like this. They hit you with the results of the poll right in the headline (which too few people will read and move on without going through the article). Scroll down a ways and you find out they only polled 2,000 people to represent all of Canada (36.7 million people). The article isn't worded to inform people either, it reads as though it is attempting to convince me why the poll represents the truth (whether it does or not).

2018-11-22 03:34:11 UTC

And of course more Canadians wouldn't support Trump. You guys in the U.S. have an America First president, while up here we have a Canada Last prime minister and as a result Trump can pretty much have his way with us because there's nobody to fight him on it. When Trump tries to get the best deal for the U.S. it will mean that Canada probably won't come out on top which is enough to make a lot of Canadians dislike him at least somewhat. Our media also doesn't really like him either (not quite CNN levels of partisanship, but getting there) which doesn't help Trump in Canadian public opinion. I'm actually surprised that public opinion of Trump isn't worse up here.

2018-11-22 03:44:37 UTC

I bet it is lower tbh

2018-11-22 03:45:24 UTC

I used to be able to convince people that it wasn't as big an issue as they thought but after we got re-shafted on nafta that stopped

2018-11-22 03:45:35 UTC

We need a Canada First party

2018-11-22 03:47:27 UTC

As much as I'd like an actual Canada First party, those kinds of things have a tendency to attract the wrong type of people unfortunately. I'd much prefer a Common Sense Party of Canada, comprised of center-left and center-right libertarians looking to get rid of political extremists and ideologues so we can get back to focusing on actual important and relevant issues.

2018-11-22 03:48:20 UTC

by "get rid of" I mean specifically to eliminate their ideas through debate

2018-11-22 03:50:20 UTC

I'm just gonna throw my weight behind Mad Max

2018-11-22 03:54:16 UTC

@H E C K , I want such a party here too.

2018-11-22 03:56:14 UTC

@H E C K shame that those ideas cannot be argued because of the sunk cost fallacy. Proving them wrong in their mind makes them right

2018-11-22 03:58:53 UTC

just a shame that debate often causes those your debating to double down even harder in the face of overwhelming evidence that they are wrong, it's a wierd result

2018-11-22 03:59:13 UTC

The people being debated may not have their opinions swayed, but the people watching the debate could be convinced. Perhaps not all, but some. Of course there are people with crazy levels of bias that they could never accept that their position is wrong (I've seen some shit like this on Dr. Phil), but they will be a minority.

2018-11-22 04:00:43 UTC

On the other hand, silencing these people instead of debating them will not only confirm their beliefs to them but it will convince others that they are right. At least debate will keep the amount of political extremists to a minimum

2018-11-22 04:08:34 UTC

I'd like to think there is some opinion adjustment going on here. I certainly have been putting a lot of thought into what I have heard here.

2018-11-22 04:13:20 UTC

Same here. My opinions have changed dramatically over the past two years, originally starting on the center right and listening to Ben Shapiro and Milo Yiannopoulos. Now I'm center left, listen to Tim (obviously) and other people on the left. I'm even starting to purchase some books on politics and philosophy which will probably change my opinions even more. I think people can change their opinions quite fluidly when they become cognizant of the tribalistic workings of their brain.

2018-11-22 04:13:48 UTC

It's true, opinions rarely change over the course of a conversation, but seeds can be planted.

2018-11-22 04:14:57 UTC

the other big issue is the massive numbers of personal attacks.
You will not change anyones mind by attacking them.
But that is largely how people treat politics now.

2018-11-22 04:16:09 UTC

I had a friend that decided to never speak to me again for pointng out when they were spouting propaganda and giving them links to sources like snopes to show them what the truth was, but they just said I was a dirty trump supporter and a bad person who hates brown people.

2018-11-22 04:22:22 UTC

That's likely because the only people who attack others based on politics are not interested in finding truth regardless of where it lies, but rather they simply want their tribe to be right. I don't blame them entirely, it's a function of the human mind that once served us in terms of self-preservation. When you are completely disconnected from any group, then you won't have that drive to see your tribe win. In my opinion, it's one of the best ways to ensure that your own political biases are kept to a minimum. As for your friend, it's really unfortunate to hear that they were willing to give up a friendship over politics. Back in high school I had a friend who was a self-proclaimed democratic socialist. At the time I was center-right, which he knew about. We never had any issues in our friendship, political or otherwise.

2018-11-22 12:46:12 UTC

@Beemann mad max all the way!

2018-11-22 12:46:45 UTC

It's hard not to think that the Liberal Party has open disdain for the average Canadian

2018-11-22 12:47:06 UTC

Are they that power drunk or just malevolent?

2018-11-22 12:47:18 UTC

The US is definitely a more attractive option

2018-11-22 18:52:50 UTC

@The Yellow King you showed them Snopes, of all websites, and they still called you a dirty tumper? Yikes.

2018-11-22 18:53:38 UTC

Yeah
