Like...14+ people smashing windows and threatening people if they don't comply spooks me
TL;DR, Antifa forcibly redirecting traffic, smashing shit with batons and sticks
I'm essentially a minarchist/anti-authoritarian, so by neccesity I'm opposed to government controlled welfare and the like.
But ye, I'm honestly painfully minarchist. I just...I don't want the government doing things beyond organizing for defense of the nation, protecting citizen rights, and arbitrating disputes.
Like, anything beyond that has to be on a provisional and temporary basis, and stay within a strict budget.
Brian Brushwood is the dude who did scam school and like, Modern Rogue
@oprahsminge Ye.
The funny thing is, most people in America, beyond the screaming left, actually find my stance to be ameneable and understandable.
Literally the way I get people to see it as a reasonable stance is "Do you really, honestly trust the government?"
If no, then why would you ever want to give it more power?
All a government really is is a corporation with a functional monopoly on violence.
I generally distrust any massive structure of authority or power; that's just a reasonable thing to do.
@LEER Some of it is with good intention, but so is the road to hell paved with such
Well, that's the thing. You need to recognize that, in many cases, people who call for these things are scared, frustrated, or genuinely beleive they will make a positive change.
When an action's intent is to foster a good end, but it's result is the inverse, it is not by act of malice, but of ignorance.
@xorgy Most Americans, sadly, couldn't manage to pass a basic civics course.
But yeah, the way I tend to be able to make headway on political stuff like this is by being painfully reasonable, respecting and recognizing that a person's frustrations are valid, but that we disagree on how to resolve the frustration.
TBH, I think the US political system could probably be solved by one modification
I wish I could just post that jojo gif of "yes yes yes yes yes yes yes"
Well, I'd like to leave the option for the states to do as they please, but on a federal level, all popular vote decisions should be via runoff.
But I meant, in essence, on matter sof federal office
The issue with first past the post is that it immediately fosters a 2-party system because spoiler votes are lost votes.
It's just tiring being politically active in Illinois because of how genuinely toxic it is.
I'll have to look into it. If there's something worth the energy, it's this and maybe term limits.
Hilariously it'd be easiest to sell to Berniebros
Cause he would have been able to run independently and win, since runoff voting would have encouraged everyone to vote Bernie as first choice and then second choice safe pick.
Which is amusing because I really don't like Bernie, but I'd still support the passage of runoff because it'd snipe many even bigger issues.
That's one of the issues with leaving this entirely to the state; the transition will be lopsided. But I guess nothing is ever easy.
TBH I wish there was even like, options for making strawpolls like that
It'd make my life so much easier with running D&D and some other stuff.
Oh, apparently it's in the official feature request roadmap of strawpoll
Indicate via number or order of selection, one's preference order and then perform an IRV of the results.
I could probably make an excel/gsheets setup for it, but having the ability to just plop a strawpoll link would be nice.
@LotheronPrime oof.
https://rankit.vote/ Oh hey, the internet is a lovely place
@Tornzy Combination of soft racism and voter fraud being a big part of certain party action.
I mean, why not just remove name+gender from resume? Blind hiring
@Atkins Ye, that could be a serious issue. Even just how genders may present themselves in cover letters etc might effect it.
Ye, nucc gender from the selection. aim for equality of opportunity and genuine fairness.
The issue is, if we push so hard to favor a gender, is that not just discrimination by another name?
I don't disagree; gender should be irrelevant to selection process, whenever possible.
There are some jobs where gender can have an effect, but if you measure the benchmarks it will automatically select for gender anyway.
for example, if there is a baseline fitness requirement, it will weed out a lot of women, because of hormones and muscle mass and the like.
@Timcast That tends to be true, but it may be a sort of "it's the only role they can do effectively so they end up over represented"
@Blackhawk342 You could require female soldiers to take one of those period-nukin implants.
It'd also remove the chance of them getting pregnant while on duty
@Rabbi Shekels yes.
@Grenade123 That's true, I suppose, but it would be a suitable compromise, I'd argue.
You set the benchmarks, give them an implant, and say "ok, Soldier #155643, go do PT."
