!agree
dissenter seems pretty cool, would be nice if they could put a number on the icon tho showing how many comments are on your active page
Oh it's FOSS, I could fork it and add that myself when I have time
@Fitzydog I'm thinking something like shift+Ctrl+d to open it as an overlay. But I'll have to take a look at the current code
Tomorrow, on account of it being 5 in the morning
So I took a look at the dissenter extension source code, and I feel the design is rather backwards. What it does is essentially open an entire website every time you click the browser extension. I made a suggestion to add a JSON based API to let us create more user friendly forks. If that goes anywhere, I'll make one.
it's an approach that works, but arguably it'd be lighter to run it off of JSON requests, so you don't have to request all of the data every time
and it'd also be a lot easier to work with for those who want to modify the appearance
Yes. But it's lighter for their servers since they can offload a lot onto the client.
Yeah but they also have to send all the data from the database instead of being selective. For an instance, it'd be nice when you visit the site that the icon changes and shows the number of comments made on said page.
Because right now you have to click the icon and wait for the entire page to load just to see if anyone has been there.
They could also have hashed the url. Then they could see if you had been to a specific page, but not the full range.
Vegetarian nuggz are awesome tho with the right seasoning
I'd take Quorn nuggets over Chicken Nuggets any day of the week. Tho I'm biased because I don't like chicken
So article 13 passed
I used to to be against leaving the EU. But this is the last straw
agreed
I just got an email from the free software foundation, at least they managed to get an exception for hosting of FOSS
*โProviders of services such as (..) open source software developing and sharing platforms, (...) shall not be considered online content sharing service providers within the meaning of this Directiveโ*
If Americans start restricting access to their platforms to the EU, the tech savvy will use VPNs. So it's a win-win for us
Time for a swexit, fruckoff, outstria, exstonia etc
@MountainMan social democrats and SD also voted for I believe
really?
they messed up the chances of further changes to the law
yep
yep
it could have been up for votes on changes if:
The Swedish feminist party FI would have voted yes instead of abstained
The Swedish Democrats SD would have pushed the correct button
The Social Democrats would have voted yes
I just explained
There were two votes.
1. Whether the law should pass (won by a large margin).
2. Whether to allow additional votes on proposals to change the law.
ja
The second one only failed by a small margin.
And would have passed if FI would have voted yes, SD wouldn't have pushed the wrong button, and S would have voted yes
so yeah the feminists are partially to blame for that :>
@I Crane also depends on what you want to do with your code
Arduino: C++
Websites: JavaScript
LUA: game mods
Java: phone apps
Python: Hack random one off projects together quickly
PC programs: lots of different languages
I've been making a lot of stuff around the house that utilize ESP microcontrollers, and just got started on using attiny ones
Gonna trigger some people, but hopefully one day duckduckgo will be useful
I switched over from google as my main search engine, and in 80% of the searches it doesn't give me the relevant information
Not sure if this or comp sci is the best forum for this discussion, but I'm curious what arguments there are:
*Should there be rules on large scale social platforms (such as facebook, google, youtube etc) against algorithmic filter bubbles?*
My own stance is that filter bubbles are bad because it induces tribalism and misinformation. But I have no idea what the solution is.
good idea
I'm listening to the podcast you linked. I've always been for open source, but I really love when he compares it with having to declare what's in your food
so is minds primarily meant for political stuff?
I've been considering creating it, but the only thing I use my twitter for is posting DIY videos and doge memes
ok so I might be boomer af here, but how do I actually follow someone on here? I signed up and found someone I want to follow, but there's no follow button anywhere
any thoughts on the whole subverse thing?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50_F0rfMY8c
It sounds to me like they may have taken that name out of spite, since they'd been in contact and hostile to Tim when he'd covered their Patreon thing
Also if they got banned from Patreon I have no idea wtf they did. I make porn games, I got a message from patreon saying "please make all adult content posts patron only, and carry on"
they're trying to get it on steam and also kickstarter is an american company, so I think he'll have some leverage there
I mean the legal rights are a grey area, but it still rustles my jimmies because the studio sounds like absolute knobs
The problem I'm seeing is they're killing off Tim's brand by having a larger e-penis, and I wouldn't be surprised if they're doing that on purpose
basically they're taking over the brand
subverse appeared this year I believe, Tim has been working on his for 4+
ah
I believe he said he had contacted them about the Patreon thing for a video
it could be a coincidence, but they definitely knew about Tim by the time they picked their name
the creators of subverse were on patreon before
then they got banned, and tim covered that in a story
and he reached out for a comment, to which they replied something along the lines of "you make shitty jordan peterson videos"
no this was before they made subverse
afaik the game holds the UK one, tim holds the US one
so he contacted them about it and asked them if they'd be willing to change their name for their US release
to which they responded that he'll just have to get legal action involved
yeah he has a lawer
but actually battling it in court is expensive
so he's not sure what to do
yeah he wanted to file for a global trademark, but he can't afford it
I hope he sets up his own kickstarter
it'd be the first one I'd back
But yeah, what's really activated my almonds is how big of a dick the game company has been
yeah, but the problem is that because it's a porn game, it scares away investors
yeah
It would activate my almonds so much if the game company were open to actually discuss it instead of forcing it into a court battle. And also they should probably have looked the name up before they actually named their game. It only takes a google search.
International trademark is really bloody expensive tho.
actually it doesn't look that expensive
that too
some guys tried to make an alcohol called "The Pirate Bay" at some point, but were forced to change the name
yeah 390 is tiny
I thought it'd be like at least 10 grand
true, but holding one would likely help his case
as it stands he has no legal precedence to get them to change their name outside of the US
definitely
