Eh, it's Discord. Just having the name doesn't really help unless you have the numbers to go with it.

2019-05-19 18:27:33 UTC [Sparta #general]

So I wouldn't worry about censoring the name.

2019-06-03 13:49:56 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

I'm...cautiously pro-Trump? Last candidate I was actually properly for was Ron Paul. Since then, it's more of a least-bad sort of deal, but Trump took that title last election by a country mile even if I am wary of him.

2019-06-28 17:13:59 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

Likely refused the stabber's sexual advances.

2019-07-11 16:45:47 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

It's fine. India and Sri Lanka will stop fighting over fishing rights once China comes up with a 5th century map that proves that own the entire Indian Ocean, I'm sure.

2019-07-14 14:24:11 UTC [Sparta #politics-free-for-all]

Honestly, at this point, I think it's time for the west in general to wash it's hands of the matter. Regardless of what side you fall on, there's worse shit going on in Africa and South East Asia that doesn't get a peep out of the UN. No reason to lose shit over two local ethnic groups going at each other in the Middle East either.

2019-07-15 13:43:06 UTC [Sparta #general]

Was about to say, I run Pop!_OS, but no experience with nmap.

2019-07-15 13:43:32 UTC [Sparta #general]

What exactly is it doing?

2019-07-15 13:44:09 UTC [Sparta #general]

Hah. Fair enough.

2019-07-15 13:44:55 UTC [Sparta #comp-sci]

@amsalem So what's Nmap doing?

2019-07-15 14:00:27 UTC [Sparta #general]

This one, I think.

2019-07-15 14:05:01 UTC [Sparta #comp-sci]

Hmm...yeah, that's odd. You said Nmap wasn't acting up any more. Is it not reporting those ports as open now, or...?

2019-07-15 14:06:34 UTC [Sparta #comp-sci]

Well, if they were both acting up at the same time, that suggests an issue outside of the two programs that was the common cause.

2019-07-15 14:07:01 UTC [Sparta #comp-sci]

Something wrong with a shared dependency or something acting odd in the network itself.

2019-07-15 14:07:39 UTC [Sparta #comp-sci]

Ah. Well, as long as it works. Might be something off with the network itself, then.

2019-07-15 14:08:30 UTC [Sparta #comp-sci]

Networking is a school of the blackest magics.

2019-07-15 14:09:29 UTC [Sparta #comp-sci]

How's Kali, by the way? Never tried it, but have and am using several other Debian derived distros.

2019-07-15 14:10:32 UTC [Sparta #comp-sci]

Mm.

2019-07-15 14:13:04 UTC [Sparta #general]

No problem.

2019-07-15 14:18:18 UTC [Sparta #comp-sci]

I'm good. Not much of a networking guy in general.

2019-07-31 19:35:16 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

Because they control much of the media and academia.

2019-08-05 13:40:45 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

I would presume that it's actually likely good for your immune system as long as it's not already compromised.

2019-08-05 13:43:09 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

Regular exposure to small amounts of non-too-dangerous bacteria is good for the immune system.

2019-08-05 13:48:18 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

Just letting your kid play in the dirt is basically enough, yes. Overly protective parents never letting kids get dirty is thought to be one of the causes behind rising numbers of food allergies and the like. Immune system has nothing to do, it turns on the body.

2019-08-15 13:38:11 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

Pffff. Ahmed Skeptic.

2019-08-15 13:38:40 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

Eh, I've been lurking for ages. I just don't talk much.

2019-08-16 23:50:04 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

"just 4.1 billion"

2019-08-16 23:50:16 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

Those poor babies.

2019-08-16 23:52:22 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

Basically. If we were serious about sending aid, it would be teachers and industrial/farming hardware, not liquid cash.

2019-08-17 11:25:44 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

imaginemyshock.jpg

2019-08-19 17:10:51 UTC [Sparta #general]

I'm gonna take a guess and assume a decent portion of that is directly connected to the rising value of housing.

2019-08-19 17:15:47 UTC [Sparta #general]

I mean, we sorta kinda did to some extent, but pretty sure it almost entirely effected property held by banks rather than actual people.

2019-08-19 17:16:52 UTC [Sparta #general]

I mean, really, in the end, it's fairly stupid to use property value as a proxy for overall wealth in any sort of situation where you're living on said property anyway.

2019-08-19 17:17:07 UTC [Sparta #general]

Ah, fair enough.

2019-08-19 17:17:49 UTC [Sparta #general]

There are people that can barely afford food and property taxes that are wealthy on paper because the house the family has owned since 1920 is theoretically valuable.

2019-08-19 17:20:20 UTC [Sparta #general]

...man, I thought housing prices were bad here.

2019-08-19 17:20:37 UTC [Sparta #general]

That's just painful. How much of that is due to Chinese investors buying up property?

2019-08-19 17:20:55 UTC [Sparta #general]

I've heard here and there that they're buying a lot of land in some of those places.

2019-08-19 17:22:33 UTC [Sparta #general]

Mm. Mostly the same as in the US, then. A lot of the increase is population increasing way faster than new housing is being built.

2019-08-20 16:43:46 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

Yeah, not gonna happen at 1.) Anything like the pricepoint for previous consoles, and 2.) Not at the size of previous consoles.

2019-08-20 16:44:49 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

More likely, it'll be in line with a lower end Zen 2 CPU with a downclocked RX 5700. So mid-tier PC at best.

2019-08-20 16:56:17 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

Indeed.

2019-08-20 16:56:38 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

Not to mention some leaks from fairly reliable sources are pegging the CPU's clock speed at 2GHz.

2019-08-20 16:56:54 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

So basically, laptop CPU speeds.

2019-08-20 16:58:04 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

And that's assuming they actually use the full power of the leaked specs rather than downclocking like Nintendo did with the Switch to save on heat and power.

2019-08-20 16:59:34 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

Indeed. Even 2GHz is going to pump out way more heat than any previous console, with eight cores. They'll need, well, desktop grade cooling for that. So either jet-engine loud, or like, double the size of current gen consoles to fit the cooler.

2019-08-20 17:00:39 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

And it'll be power hungry as hell too. Not going to be room for a powerful enough integrated PSU, most likely, at the current size. So again, either PC sized, or external power supply.

2019-08-20 17:01:22 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

They *might* manage with a laptop style power brick, at best.

2019-08-20 17:01:32 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

So not...massively inconvient, but notable.

2019-08-20 17:02:11 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

All you have to do is look at gaming-grade laptops to see all the design problems they'll have to face.

2019-08-20 17:02:30 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

The higher end ones require *two* normal laptop power supplies to run.

2019-08-20 17:02:45 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

And are *loud*.

2019-08-20 17:05:36 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

Not to mention, projected release dates for this range from Summer to Winter of 2020. The tech will be a generation old by then.

2019-08-20 17:06:05 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

PCs will be preparing for DDR5 at that point.

2019-08-20 17:07:39 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

Eh, sorta kinda. Frankly, a lot of the issue the last few years has been general tech stagnation, mostly because AMD wasn't offering any real competition to Intel or Nvidia.

2019-08-20 17:07:51 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

They finally stepped up their game, and now all three are starting to move again.

2019-08-20 17:08:08 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

Exactly.

2019-08-20 17:08:42 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

Intel got to sit on their asses basically just tweaking existing CPU designs for years on end, and Nvidia, while progressing decently in power, jacked up their prices.

2019-08-20 17:09:00 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

Because if you wanted top end GPUs, you HAD to buy from Nvidia.

2019-08-20 17:11:48 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

But yeah, things are looking up this generation. Zen 2 actually has decent performance, if still a tad shy of Intel's 9th gen Core chips. AMD also has a good upper-mid tier graphics card at a decent price, and Intel is getting ready to *finally* release 10nm CPUs, first in laptops, then in a year or two on desktops, and are also preparing to enter the graphics card market.

2019-08-20 17:12:11 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

And a new faster memory standard is about to be released in the same timeframe.

2019-08-20 17:12:46 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

Ayp. And Intel entering into the GPU game is going to push both AMD and Nvidia.

2019-08-20 17:13:27 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

There have been occasions where Nvidia and AMD/ATI have basically played games with the market to maximize profit for both.

2019-08-20 17:13:37 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

Intel don't play that game. Intel wants all the money for Intel.

2019-08-20 17:13:58 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

Intel will bleed Intel if it means bigger loss of blood for AMD and Nvidia.

2019-08-20 17:15:34 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

True, but it's still going to push AMD and Nvidia. They use the same base hardware for their Quadro/FirePro cards as for their general consumer cards.

2019-08-20 17:15:50 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

So a lot of the competition in that space will still push development for gaming cards.

2019-08-20 19:28:51 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

Yeah. Real pity.

2019-08-20 19:35:15 UTC [Sparta #vidya-games]

Possibly even a beta cuck 4 lyfe.

2019-08-21 16:53:58 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

One would presume facing Sol.

2019-08-22 04:04:47 UTC [Sparta #general]

Sounds like a great way to John Belushi yourself.

2019-08-23 14:44:46 UTC [Sparta #general]

Makes sense. Favoring sweetness would be a strong survival trait.

2019-08-23 14:45:05 UTC [Sparta #general]

Sweetness generally means carbs, which means easy to break down energy.

2019-08-23 14:48:26 UTC [Sparta #general]

Yeah, that's kinda like saying that the majority of rats in a study favor running away from fire over cocaine.

2019-08-23 14:48:43 UTC [Sparta #general]

These are very strong evolutionary pressures.

2019-08-23 15:11:53 UTC [Sparta #general]

But have they ever tried DMT?

2019-08-24 14:30:26 UTC [Sparta #general]

Drunkeness.

2019-08-24 16:52:56 UTC [Sparta #general]

HAHAHAHA

2019-08-24 16:54:38 UTC [Sparta #general]

He's not sorry though. He meant every bit of it, he's just trying to weasel out of trouble for saying it.

2019-08-26 12:22:28 UTC [Sparta #general]

Yeah, it...actually takes a great deal of effort to keep tabs on your own subs.

2019-08-29 06:17:02 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

4QQQQQQQQQQQQQ7Y

2019-08-29 14:26:49 UTC [Sparta #general]

No such thing as war, famine, human sacrifice, or cannibalism. Never.

2019-08-29 14:27:00 UTC [Sparta #general]

Europeans brought all that to the Americas.

2019-08-29 14:29:26 UTC [Sparta #general]

The problem with projecting modern day morals and judgements on historical Europeans is that everyone else, at any given time, is either equally as bad, or notably worse.

2019-08-30 13:39:28 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

A man must have made her do it.

2019-08-30 13:39:36 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

The boy was asking for it, with his penis and all.

2019-08-31 15:57:34 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

Ask Elon Musk. If anyone has a vast underground base just sitting around, it's him.

2019-09-04 08:06:36 UTC [Sparta #general]

Sound vaguely familiar. New York, I think?

2019-09-04 08:06:47 UTC [Sparta #general]

Might be thinking of another cop killer though.

2019-09-04 08:08:21 UTC [Sparta #twis]

Aye. Building houses doesn't mean shit if they're in bumfuck nowhere with no jobs in the area.

2019-09-04 08:09:20 UTC [Sparta #general]

That might have been the guy I was thinking of.

2019-09-04 08:09:41 UTC [Sparta #general]

That's the one you were thinking of, I think.

2019-09-04 08:10:11 UTC [Sparta #general]

Sounds right.

2019-09-04 08:46:13 UTC [Sparta #general]

When you think the government is facist, but you also want them to take away all firearms from the populace.

2019-09-17 09:44:06 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

Pretty sure I've seen a zombie flick that starts this way.

2019-09-18 23:10:29 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

He already said hippos. Why are you repeating him?

2019-09-22 20:37:45 UTC [Sparta #breaking-news]

If I recall, the River Thames froze solid sometime in the 1600's or so.
