Forgot about the Christotokos vs Theotokos issue

2018-12-30 23:35:31 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

Most modern problems inside the Church and with the personal and internal faith people have can be explained through a close examination of the heresies in earlier times. Even 'secular' people in my country (with a capital famous for it's weed and prostution) fall for a lot of the early heresies unintentially.

What country is famous for it's prostitution, weed and annual pride parade? (tip: it's Western European)

2018-12-31 00:00:42 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

It's the Netherlands. I actually am from Amsterdam originally. Luckily my parents were so smart to leave when i was young.

2019-01-11 20:17:55 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

@TOES (SURPLUS BINGUS) From Vienna go to the Melk Benedictine Abbey. It's only about 1 hour and 30 minutes (depending on the connection). I would skip Moldova although it is the poorest and thus one of the cheapest of the countries in Europe.

2019-01-11 20:19:35 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

Probably a very interesting experience. Actually being interrogated by some KGB agents has it's charm i suppose

2019-01-11 20:22:45 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

Would sort of work, i think. Altough saying that you like Putin would also do the job.

2019-01-11 20:23:57 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

That's actually sort of retared as Moldovian is literally Romanian in Cyrillic. Moldovans are just Romanians in denial. Just like they are actually Latins in denial.

2019-01-11 20:25:42 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

They are Romance speakers just like a whole part of Europe.

2019-01-11 20:27:44 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

The distinction is artificial. True, the Russian influence is and was much greater there than in Romania proper

2019-01-11 20:30:21 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

You know that if Boris I of Bulgaria wasn't a pussy and said no to the wanted expulsion of Latin missionaries by the Byzantine Emperor, the Romanian people (or Vlachs) would be Catholic. Also the Bulgarians messed up a lot for them afterwards.

2019-01-11 20:30:55 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

As Boris I specifically wanted missionaries from Rome

2019-01-11 20:33:32 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

True but the inherent Byzantine Rite is sort of not fitting for them as the ROC (Romanian Orthodox Church) is the only Romance speaking Orthodox Church. That should somehow ring a bell that something is not alright. The Roman rite (which was is and will ever be in Latin) is much more appropriate.

2019-01-11 20:34:52 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

Sadly we can't change history anymore

2019-01-11 20:35:02 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

What done is done

2019-01-11 20:35:41 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

Although the Romanian state and the ROC are literally destroying Romanian Catholic churches.

2019-01-11 20:35:58 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

Or at least taking them from Catholic hands

2019-01-11 20:37:23 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

I am aware of that but i am strictly speaking about the Greek Catholics

2019-01-11 20:38:37 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

It luckily mostly concerns property issues as the result of the mess left by the communist government

2019-01-29 13:39:06 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

Imagine becoming a traitor to your own salvation giving faith and heritage just because your Church makes a strange jump with Vatican II: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evloghios_(Hessler)
"Archbishop" Evloghios (Hessler) passed away last week on the 21th of January. He was the head of the Holy Synod Of Milan, a small True Orthodox church which was in and out of communion with various accepted and not accepted Orthodox churches.

Just so you know.

2019-03-01 22:05:33 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

@Quarantine_Zone You do know that the Presbyterians (i.e. followers of the Westminster Standards) are the inferiors in the 'Reformed' tradition? They don't understand that the Continental Reformed tradition (mainly the Three Forms of Unity and the Helvetic Confessions) have an agreeable but different mindset all together.
An interesting thing happens with Lutheranism in a couple of confessions (especially the Consensus of Zurich and the Tetrapolitan Confession), that they where very anti-lutheranism in nature, mostly in the disagreement about Memorialism (specific Zwinglian ideal) and the Sacramental Union most Lutherans believed. Only later the 'threat' of Amyraldism was dealt with in the Helvetic Consensus of 1675. Amyraldism has made a distinct mark on a lot of congregationalists in the Americas and in turn changed Reformed tradition at least a bit over there.

A translation of the head:

The Swiss Bishops' Conference has asked the Pope whether Niklaus von Flรผe and Dorothea Wyss may be venerated together as a married couple. A theologian explains what venerating a couple means."

2019-03-14 18:59:03 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

Not bad.

2019-03-14 18:59:09 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

But why Spanish?

2019-03-14 19:00:11 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

Oh the heritage obsession of the New World people.

2019-03-14 19:01:25 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

So you took up Spanish just because of the heritage thingy?

Why are Americans always so airheaded when they come to Europe? They have like a very frustrating gullible additude.

2019-03-14 19:07:05 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

They probably think that the world revolves around them, but in all actuality it revolves around Europe and if not: Jerusalem.

2019-03-14 19:07:29 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

Not meaning that.

2019-03-14 19:09:47 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

You know that more and more Europeans have a severe dislike for anything Anglo? Most British who come here are drunk, rude and just go to the hookers (Amsterdam...) Americans are the stupid nephews who are at times hated with a passion due to their guillible nature.

2019-03-14 19:16:55 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

I think about this when Americans or British (youth) are mentioned:

@Deleted User Can you explain why that rag of a constitution document is so important and why is literally worshipped like a god by many Americans?

2019-03-14 19:20:12 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

You mean the Windsors?

2019-03-14 19:22:17 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

Americans can't deal with a monarchy. I cringe every time i hear American Catholics about the abdication of the pope. The Papacy is not a democracy (thank God it's not).
Just to be clear, i do not like Pope Francis.

2019-03-14 19:23:28 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

@CRYSS โณฉ Compare the wife of the heir and the amerimutt that the second in line 'married'. I doubt that she actually got the approval of grandma.

Hopefully Catherine is not Diana'd before he ascends the throne.

2019-03-14 19:27:57 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

I heard that Queen Elisabeth still actually believes in an orthodox way. Not sure about the externals though.

2019-03-14 19:29:07 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

In groups about monarchism, Americans are hilarious. They are in world of makebelieve.

I guess familiarity with English makes the title self evident for the most of you

There are still some (semi-)sane people.
"The interview of a child psychiatrist in the magazine "Spiegel" recently caused a sensation: Alexander Korte, Senior Physician at the University of Munich Hospital, is worried about the increase in cases. "We are obviously dealing with a zeitgeist phenomenon here," he says. The number of diagnoses today is five times as high as in 2013. They would be swamped by inquiries, the waiting time for new patients would be up to one year."

About the 'glorious' US:
"This does not only apply to Germany and Switzerland. In the United States, according to a study, 150,000 teens, ages 13 to 17, feel transgendered. Also in the UK over 2,500 children registered at the drop-in center last year. In 2010 there were 97. The World Health Organization responded in June. Transgender people are no longer considered mentally ill."

Time to bomb the US into oblivion.

2019-03-24 18:49:44 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

@GodFearingEnglishman Why the F do you have to explain that to your family? Do they hold sway over your concience? I thought only God was behold to that right.
Since when do you have to justify that you won't be receiving communion? The amount of times that people receive communion is absurdly high. Why do we need to receive it every week (religious and priests excluded), we simply should not as laypleople. Also the weekly communion was in origin a pious act and not strictly speaking normative.

2019-03-25 12:45:47 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

@GodFearingEnglishman
"As we speak I'm hiding in the toilets to avoid explaining to my family why I refuse to receive communion"
Maybe saying that they have sway over your conscience is a bit harsh but still the question still stands.

@Uncle Zoob I thought that Catholics where an anomily in Pakistan, purged by their 'benevolent' fellow 'citizens'.
A while back i found out that even Old Believers have followers there.

2019-04-01 20:27:30 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

Could be. A friend of mine had a long relation wit a Catholic Paki girl. He visited her once in Pakistan.

2019-04-01 20:27:45 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

Didn't work though.

Father went al retarded. He suddenly forbade any communication. And after that (the engagement was already celebrated) the communications went to very silent. He made several attempts to get her to my country, but without permission she could not go, so she stayed.
The mother and the older brother came as refugees but blew their interviews so were not approved as 'refugees' and are to be send back. The guy was unjustly blamed for this.

2019-04-01 20:32:11 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

It cost him half his heart and more.

2019-04-01 20:33:41 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

But what do you make of it?

2019-04-01 20:35:44 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

Also what is it with the retarded inbreeding and incestual relations?

2019-04-01 20:36:50 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

The family bloodlines too....

2019-04-01 20:41:38 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

Still it doesn't make sense. But it makes sense as every Islamic society cannot develop further than the early Middle Ages as the religion intrinsically fuels barbarism.

2019-04-01 20:43:39 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

Are you being monitored or something?

2019-04-01 20:49:51 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

@Uncle Zoob How public is the Ahl-e-Hadith movement in your country? And do the themselves say that they are 'Zahiris'?

2019-04-01 20:51:30 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #general]

That actually explains a lot. How are the clashes between the barelvi and the Deobandis?

Sad.

Just found this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luigi_Padovese
"Bishop Padovese was fatally stabbed in his summer residence in southern Turkey on 3 June 2010, and some reports claimed that he died en route to a hospital in the town of Iskenderun later that day.Witnesses claim that the perpetrator shouted the takbir (Allahu Akbar) during the assault, then severed his head."
The bishop is a literal martyr, murdered by his driver because he believed in Christ. How is it possible that he isn't declared a saint?

2019-04-29 21:19:36 UTC [Legio Christi Hangout #book-club]

May not be relevant for a lot of you (yet, i hope) but i want to make a recommendation for a wholesome children's book you can without doubt or worry read to your children. Ditch Harry Potter and it's ilk.
Many Dutch children have read or have been read by their parents Tonke Dragt's magnum opus: The Letter for the King (De brief voor de Koning).

The main strongpoints of the book is the clear destinction of good and evil but that good in the end through hardship will always triumph. It emphasizes duty, chivalry, courtship (no GoT or other garbage nudity etc.) and even masculinity and how a boy grows into his role as a knight and a future fiefholder and supordinate to a king.
Christianity is never mentioned but the story starts with a vigil in a chapel and one of the first character the protagonist meets are brown monks (probably Benedictines), who help him in his time of need without any questions, upholding their duty to assist those in need.
I do not know how the translation in English is, but in Dutch it is a masterpiece of a children's book. It received the Griffel der Griffels (award for the best Dutch children's book of the past fifty years). The authoress illustrated the book with minimalist but fitting black artwork and a good map. Also in Dutch it has reached it's 22nd printing in 2007, i do not know at what print we are today.
In short, highly recommended.

@Mozalbete โณฉ Fraktur (German blackletter) is relatively unpleasant to read, even if you know the language. If you can read and understand English, can do the same with German. It may take a bit of practice but it is quite well doable. It's totally different than writing it, that is a major source of frustration.

"Baum was originally a Methodist, but he joined the Episcopal Church in Aberdeen to participate in community theatricals. Later, he and his wife were encouraged by Matilda Joslyn Gage to become members of the Theosophical Society in 1892. Baum's beliefs are often reflected in his writing. The only mention of a church in his Oz books is the porcelain one which the Cowardly Lion breaks in the Dainty China Country in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The Baums sent their older sons to "Ethical Culture Sunday School" in Chicago, which taught morality, not religion."

@Crux Another pope that steps down after his predecessor did the same, is a disgrace. Remember the Church is not a masonic republic like the United States.

@Marcus Don't forget the detailed sexual assault and rape scenes, including the scenes you already mentioned. I have read some detailed horrible scenes, but this book sort of right hooked me in the jaw through it's suddenness. I had to lay it away for a short wile to let it all sink in.
Although medieval life was harsh, the author makes it all look almost inhuman. And the original protagonist is a degenerate, and a lot of characters seem to care less about chastity and and upright life, in a time that valued it with proportion. They act more on instinct than anything else.
Would not say it is a dumbsterfire of a book but it needs some censoring for it general enjoyment.

@Wrath The Youcat is trash.
