2019-12-07 07:30:49 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

The idea was for Presidents to also be elected that way

2019-12-07 07:31:00 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

At first

2019-12-07 07:31:06 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

That was the Temporary Solution

2019-12-07 07:31:20 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Since the country was unstable after the Revolution

2019-12-07 07:31:36 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

They wanted to smooth things out first before letting regular people Vote

2019-12-07 07:31:46 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Which didn't happen until Andrew Jackson

2019-12-07 07:32:09 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

I personally wouldn't want Direct Democracy for Electing the president either, tbbh

2019-12-07 07:32:57 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

@Inept Chronicler There is a difference between using Direct Democracy to Elect and using Direct Democracy as a System of Gov't

2019-12-07 07:33:31 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Like France, for instance, elects their Presidents through Direct Democracy but they're still a Congressional Republic run like the US

2019-12-07 07:34:14 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

That's actually untrue; been debunked numerous times

2019-12-07 07:34:42 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

But even then, that's why I personally wouldn't have the President be directly elected

2019-12-07 07:35:01 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

I favour a Parliamentary System like the UK and India

2019-12-07 07:35:20 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

The US can already do that

2019-12-07 07:35:39 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

It's not even bad

2019-12-07 07:35:53 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Take the Congressional Election that the US has, and just use that to elect your leader

2019-12-07 07:36:46 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Unlike the EC (which has a 90% Popular Victor to Electoral Victor), the US Congress has a 97% Success

2019-12-07 07:38:20 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

^The US Election would be divided like this

2019-12-07 07:38:59 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Basically, the Leader of the Party to Win the Most Seats in Congress becomes President

2019-12-07 07:39:42 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

@Inept Chronicler Pretty straightforward, eh?

2019-12-07 07:39:58 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Works nicely too

2019-12-07 07:40:26 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

And it lets us vote Third Parties because those parties can now freely hold seats in Congress

2019-12-07 07:41:15 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Yep

2019-12-07 07:41:22 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

One District gets one Vote

2019-12-07 07:41:45 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

It's how the UK, Canada, Australia, India, NZ, and Japan do things

2019-12-07 07:43:47 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Another thing that would be good is "Ranked Choice Voting"

2019-12-07 07:43:54 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

This would kill Vote Splitting

2019-12-07 07:44:04 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Getting rid of Spoilers n shit

2019-12-07 07:44:46 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

The US is already a Welfare State

2019-12-07 07:44:53 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Every Developed Nation is

2019-12-07 07:45:09 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Since it has a Police Force, Military, and a Government which provides services

2019-12-07 07:46:06 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

@J.R. BOB DOBBS Welfare just means Gov't Spending. So a Welfare State is just a State where the Gov't Spends Money on things like the Police/Fire/Rescue, DMV, Military, Gov't Institutions, Health Care, Education, etc etc

2019-12-07 07:46:25 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

In that respect, even China is a Welfare State

2019-12-07 07:46:48 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Welfare has no formal definition

2019-12-07 07:47:03 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

The most broad definition is any gov't spending

2019-12-07 07:47:16 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

And that's what the Welfare state does mean, btw

2019-12-07 07:47:34 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

The Welfare in Welfare State does mean Spending on Services

2019-12-07 07:48:00 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Also, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social aren't bad

2019-12-07 07:48:11 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

They're steps in the right direction

2019-12-07 07:48:38 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

I would argue get rid of Medicate and just let everyone have Medicare

2019-12-07 07:49:00 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Well, unless you're talking Health Care

2019-12-07 07:49:10 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

No

2019-12-07 07:49:19 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Private Health Care is awful, lol

2019-12-07 07:49:51 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

You already have Wait times under the Private System

2019-12-07 07:50:05 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

The Private Wait Times are based on the Size of your Wallet

2019-12-07 07:50:12 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Public Wait times are on Need

2019-12-07 07:50:48 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Some rich guy with Stomach Aches in the US is higher priority than someone with a Stage 4 Cancer in the American System

2019-12-07 07:50:49 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

In a Universal System, the wait times regard Priority. Someone with Cancer or who just suffered a Heart Attack, of course, is higher priority than you, who might be in for a minor fever. The higher priority niggas get almost instantaneous care while those who are lower priority might have to wait a little longer.

2019-12-07 12:47:35 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

That is untrue

2019-12-07 12:47:48 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

You're literally only looking at the NHS

2019-12-07 12:47:55 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

There are other systems too

2019-12-07 12:49:03 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Such as the French/German System (regarded as the Best in the World) in which Private Health Care Companies still exist but the way you pay for said insurance is with Taxes

2019-12-07 12:49:26 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Multi/Single-Payer Systems are Objectively better than the Private System

2019-12-07 12:50:02 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

You really think the Private Oligopoly Competes in the US? There's like 12 Health Care Companies and they're all in the same Big Club

2019-12-07 12:50:28 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

As a result, Health Care costs in the US are the HIGHEST in the Entire World (let alone the Developed World)

2019-12-07 12:52:15 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

There are some things that just should be off the Table from the Private Sector; ya wouldn't want to have Private Policemen or Firefighters, now would you?

2019-12-07 12:59:06 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

"Help! My House is Burning Down!"
"That'll be $30,000"
"I c-can't afford that"
"Welp, pack up boys. There's nothing we can do ab it now"

2019-12-07 13:01:01 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

@Death in June Because things like Universal Health Care are something everyone benefits off of; extremely popular services, to the people. Thus, if the Right Winged Party even tries touching the Health Care System, it's seen as Political Suicide

2019-12-07 13:03:58 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Only exception are the Tories in the UK who, under Tony Blair and David Cameron, literally raped the NHS to death, taking it from the #1 in the World to lower than the US' Health Care System; but the only reason the Tories didn't end up killing their party with that is bc people just hate Corbyn and the Labour Party a fuck ton more

2019-12-07 13:04:08 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Times are so divisive, at this point

2019-12-07 13:04:17 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

2019-12-07 13:04:37 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

@FitnessByHeatherHeyer That has more to do with Institutions rather than Insurance

2019-12-07 13:06:48 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

I mean, for my Data Management Project, I looked at comparing Obesity Rates to quality of Health Care and I did find a direct correlation

2019-12-07 13:07:05 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Japan has one of the Best Health Care Systems and one of the lowest Obesity Rates lol

2019-12-07 13:07:33 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Obamacare is Shit, anything new?

2019-12-07 13:07:48 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Not really

2019-12-07 13:07:55 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

It's bc the US is a Corporatocracy

2019-12-07 13:08:26 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Whenever the Gov't gets involved, it's bc the Corporations have paid the Gov't to pass regulations that would help *them*

2019-12-07 13:09:15 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Everyone knows the US is the most Corrupt Country in the Developed World

2019-12-07 13:09:25 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Corruption is literally Legal

2019-12-07 13:09:48 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

The SCOTUS has affirmed this for over a century now

2019-12-07 13:10:19 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

@Death in June Well, Obamacare was the Originally the GOP's Health Care Plan that Obama Stole

2019-12-07 13:11:27 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

RomneyCare

2019-12-07 13:11:34 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

Made by Mitt Romney

2019-12-07 13:12:03 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

And the Wikileaks have shown that Romney was paid by the Insurance Companies to give them this plan since it would benefit them

2019-12-07 13:15:35 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

The US is functionally an Oligarchy; what we'd call a Corporatocracy; a System of Gov't in which the Big Corporations control the State

2019-12-07 13:16:31 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

This is actually an Argument I often use against Socialists who try blaming America's problems on Capitalism

2019-12-07 13:18:39 UTC [Athens #us_politics]

The United States ain't a Capitalist Country, it's actually a Socialist Country...one of the Most Socialist Countries in the World; the difference is that differentiates the US from other Socialist Countries and makes em appear to be Capitalist is that all of that Socialism is for the Rich; Corporate Welfare; what we would call "Corporatist"

@Uksio estimates say it was up to 12M

Also, there arenโ€™t 100M Jews

They say 6-12

โ€œHitler was not a bad guyโ€

Yes he was, wtf?

Psychology is interesting because Hitler, still being a Human Being and all, became the Evil man that he was through a gradual process of rejection

He did good but did way more bad

@Hommedaction No, Hitler didnโ€™t care about women, in the first place. The only reason he engaged with Eva was because she was so psychotic about him that she shot herself because he rejected her and he felt guilty

Hitler was Evil

Regardless of whatever you say about his transformation, he was still evil and unjustified

Just as Stalin, Mao, Pinochet, Pol Pot, and Genghis Khan were Evil, Hitler was also Evil and there is no denying it

The transformation he had to becoming evil is the part we in psychology find fascinating
