2018-05-09 23:41:00 UTC

but if you want to play that game, sure, BREAKING your bone doesn't make it stronger

2018-05-09 23:41:15 UTC

that would be the equivalent.

2018-05-09 23:41:28 UTC

Semantics, guys.

2018-05-09 23:41:36 UTC

but repeated stress applied to parts of the body, when given periods of rest, grow back stronger

2018-05-09 23:41:49 UTC

your body reacting to a change in your every day requirements from it

2018-05-09 23:41:55 UTC

So, anyone on a healthy diet can build muscle, correct?

2018-05-09 23:42:14 UTC

They can lift weights

2018-05-09 23:42:16 UTC

get swole

2018-05-09 23:42:28 UTC

That's just an accepted fact.

2018-05-09 23:42:32 UTC

Right?

2018-05-09 23:43:05 UTC

I'm actually asking if that's more or less your point.

2018-05-09 23:43:54 UTC

Lacking an answer, I'll continue.

2018-05-09 23:44:24 UTC

i'm fucking eating cunt

2018-05-09 23:44:27 UTC

give me a minute

2018-05-09 23:44:29 UTC

jesus

2018-05-09 23:44:55 UTC

any normal person, yes. not technically everyone. i'm, not count anomalies

2018-05-09 23:47:01 UTC

So, two people on the same workout should be able to, say, lose weight, or build muscle at the same rate?

2018-05-09 23:47:58 UTC

roughly the same weight, same age range, same food intake, similar living environments, same sex

2018-05-09 23:47:59 UTC

yes

2018-05-09 23:48:41 UTC

that's not a war face

2018-05-09 23:51:19 UTC

"Genetic factors influence the rate and quantity of muscle growth for an individual throughout his or her resistance training program. According to Vladimir M. Zatsiorsky and William J. Kraemer, authors of โ€œScience and Practice of Strength Training,โ€ muscle growth is influenced by muscle fiber type, fat distribution, hormone levels and the quality and duration of your exercise program. Although you cannot change your genetic makeup, you can design a muscle-building routine that will be the most successful for your genetic ability to develop enhanced muscle strength and size."
https://www.livestrong.com/article/332806-is-the-ability-to-build-muscle-genetic/

Here is the list of the most important inherited traits that affects your success in bodybuilding:

Your maximum number of muscles fibers;
Your percentage of fast-twitch and slow-twitch muscle fibers;
The shape of your muscles when theyโ€™re fully developed;
Muscle insertion;
The size of your bones and joint structure;
Somatypes;
Your metabolic rate;
You can use this information on genetics to determine your own genetic potential.

Genetics: The Cold Hard Truth
This probably isn't what you want to hear, but your progress is largely dependent on your genetics.

Recent research shows that some individuals respond very well to strength training, some barely respond, and some don't respond at all. You read that correctly. Some people don't show any noticeable results. Researchers created the term "non-responders" for these individuals.

A landmark study by Hubal used 585 male and female human subjects and showed that twelve weeks of progressive dynamic exercise resulted in a shockingly wide range of responses.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! That's a war face!

2018-05-09 23:52:06 UTC

It looks like several people surrounding the bodybuilding scene disagree with you, Grenade.

2018-05-09 23:55:21 UTC

So, research seems to indicate that people have variations on how quickly and how much progress they can make.

2018-05-09 23:58:15 UTC

fine, i'll just assume all those studies took those people from birth, and made them grow up the exact same, just to see the exact inherited differences.

2018-05-09 23:59:02 UTC

Are you going to argue that bone structure and metabolic rate are environmental?

2018-05-09 23:59:27 UTC

You're moving towards the point of genetics meaning nothing, and they most certainly mean *something*.

2018-05-10 00:04:16 UTC

they do mean something. i don't think we have come close to sequencing the entire genome, and cataloging all their interaction. But we know at least some of these genes appear to have an on off switches, and i'm curious how the environment, particularly while still developing, affects that.

2018-05-10 00:05:21 UTC

Tim is basically explaining that "purge" episode of rick and morty ๐Ÿ˜›

2018-05-10 00:06:09 UTC

I wouldn't argue against that being a factor in a genetic lineage

2018-05-10 00:06:11 UTC

genes do much, but ingesting chemicals while young will do more.

2018-05-10 00:06:38 UTC

so i still question research that is still more or less correlation

2018-05-10 00:06:54 UTC

use it more as a guideline rather than the rule

2018-05-10 00:07:11 UTC

You're asking for a branch of science that's been deemed unethical.

2018-05-10 00:07:36 UTC

yes, i am

2018-05-10 00:07:43 UTC

bit a problem, isn't it?

2018-05-10 00:08:04 UTC

Aside from that, we can actually study similarities between the parent and offspring, and figure out where bone structure and the like came from.

2018-05-10 00:08:18 UTC

In the same way you can generally trace hair, skin, and eye tones.

2018-05-10 00:08:39 UTC

It's exceptionally easy to observe the differences skin deep

2018-05-10 00:09:40 UTC

But to imply that we haven't done what we could to confirm genetic traits without turning children into lab rats... which we HAVE done similar shit with lab rats...

2018-05-10 00:09:53 UTC

I mean...

2018-05-10 00:10:48 UTC

Here's what I think the bottom line is... IQ and Knowledge are not the same thing.

2018-05-10 00:11:10 UTC

just as physical potential and actual physical status aren't the same.

2018-05-10 00:11:34 UTC

Yes, the on/off thing is epigenetics, I believe. "Genes load the gun, but environment pulls the trigger."

2018-05-10 00:12:09 UTC

but if we want to get back to IQ, if there is one part of the body we probably know the least about, its still the brain. and I still question the value of IQ tests out side of correlation without causation. That, to me, is an interesting fact with no real use yet, aside from telling the obvious: growing up poor, uneducated, in a cesspool, does nothing to help a person.

2018-05-10 00:12:38 UTC

IQ tests measure capability of an individual to recognize patterns, mostly.

2018-05-10 00:12:58 UTC

so we think, anyway.

2018-05-10 00:13:20 UTC

i mean, how do you test the tests to make sure they actually answer the question you think they do?

2018-05-10 00:14:31 UTC

testing muscles is pretty easy. Can you pick up this thing that ways x.

2018-05-10 00:23:21 UTC

oh shit! its blowing up in syria

2018-05-10 00:23:37 UTC

2018-05-10 00:35:21 UTC

"The Israeli army threatens the Syrian regime from being involved against the Israeli move."

2018-05-10 00:40:50 UTC

"The Israeli army: Any Syrian involvement against the Israeli military action against Iranian forces will be faced with extreme consequences"

2018-05-10 00:42:08 UTC

thats a syrian MP

2018-05-10 00:42:33 UTC

2018-05-10 00:43:16 UTC

wwIII shit... once russia gets involved .. then US, UK, france

2018-05-10 00:46:19 UTC

funny this seems to happen just as major ISIS defeats come

2018-05-10 00:51:48 UTC

this is what would happen in NK started a war

2018-05-10 00:51:57 UTC

if*

2018-05-10 00:52:06 UTC

but this should not be a surprise.

2018-05-10 00:52:24 UTC

you think any countries got involved for the good of the people of that region?

2018-05-10 00:52:38 UTC

what do you think nations are? helpful?

2018-05-10 00:53:51 UTC

oh shit.... israel just missiled an SAA base

2018-05-10 06:40:34 UTC

war

2018-05-10 08:20:32 UTC

Pattern recognition is part of IQ. But IQ measures g, the general intelligence, which can predict way more then performance on patter recognition tests

2018-05-10 08:23:30 UTC

Job performance
Task effeciency
Lifetime success
Ability to break a rock into smaller rocks
Memorizing sets of random numbers
Peer reviewed quality of produced art
Etc etc

2018-05-10 08:23:52 UTC

Very few tasks are NOT g loaded

2018-05-10 10:01:12 UTC

"Ready to fight, ready to die" isn't saying you want to fight or die, I agree with Tim in that. However there is a big difference between islam and the other quote Tim is comparing it to.
I wouldn't expect any western person to have this mentality until they are provoked, from the experience I have Islamic people live by this and are in a constant state of readiness for this.
Thus putting it in a single context then the true story isn't really being told is it.

2018-05-10 10:04:54 UTC

An example would be if an athlete and a morbidly obese person both said "I'm hungry", would you take it as having the exact same meaning and seriousness?

2018-05-10 10:06:56 UTC

or "Im starving"

2018-05-10 10:08:09 UTC

interesting how the narrative on last nights attack went down is coming out

2018-05-10 10:09:04 UTC

Israel fires a whole bunch of missiles at syria... world leaders come out and say, it was definitely Irans fault ๐Ÿ˜›

2018-05-10 10:10:43 UTC

I'm not saying it's right or wrong. Just raising a thought on one particular statement

2018-05-10 10:11:37 UTC

So now Iran does have WMDs lol

2018-05-10 10:12:59 UTC

no israel just hit some missile launchers

2018-05-10 10:17:42 UTC

I think the entire middle east is a good demonstration of how non bias news is a pipe dream. There has been so much miss information and cover ups for so long that no story can be in context and completely true.
