@Converted Weeb Is the welcome chat this channel? Why do people need to be filtered?
People are led to believe only two options exist, and they vote accordingly, even when those choices are extremely unappealing.
Seems third parties have to get the support of 15% of the electorate to even be included in the debates.
And how do they reach 15% if people don't see them as an option?
Are those similar to ranked-choice voting?
Tim does a great impression of Alex Jones.
Will look up his channel. Does he play music?
On a totally unrelated note, I enjoyed the close-up of Timcat in yesterday's video. 😺
Fifty-eight percent of men and a third of women are into that? I'm seriously questioning those research methods.
Yeah, I wonder how they drew their sample for that survey. As for soy, I don't get the animosity surrounding it in some communities. The few studies I've found that show negative effects deal with obscenely high levels of soy consumption. I mean, really, who drinks three quarts of soy milk on a daily basis? http://journals.aace.com/doi/abs/10.4158/EP.14.4.415?code=aace-site
Seems like soy protein isolate is in a lot of junk food. Is that what you're referring to?
Soybean oil is also fairly pervasive, I think. Basically, I try to avoid the super-processed forms that are devoid of nutrients. I'm not worried about edamame and tofu.
YouTube removed it and gave him a strike for "harassment."
You're welcome. Glad there's another way to view the video.
Is Tim's livestream from today still online?
Thanks, I found it but can't get it to work right now. Will try again later!
I actually got the video to come up by clicking on your Twitter link. Still not working. The most recent livestream I'm seeing on your YouTube home page is from a month ago. 🤷
@RyeNorth Oh, no! Did I miss a guitar session?
Yay, it's finally working! Had to click "Play All" option in the livestream section.
@RyeNorth I agree, though. More guitar. Also, skateboarding. 😁
I've seen it - love that part of the stream. Omg, it's late. Here's hoping I don't dream about clowns throwing sausages at bananas tonight!
More common, maybe, when he's not covering an event.
Part of a really good thread posted by Tim recently.
"Santa's lucky, 'cause he only eats cookies." 😆
Ah, okay. Has her channel already been removed?
I can't find it. That just seems really fast. I mean, Elliot Rodger's channel still exists.
It's hard for me to believe her videos were taken down due to "severe violations" of YT policy.
@Chijohnaok Yeah, the inconsistency bugs me. I wasn't aware of the jihadist stuff, but there's a lot of gory content available. Up-close-and-personal surgeries. How-to-field-dress-a-deer videos. And did they ever remove those disturbing finger family songs? I saw a handful of her videos, and only one included some animal cruelty footage. A couple of them had to do with exercise. Wacky, yes, but I can't imagine what was so in violation of YT's Terms of Service, given the stuff that's still on the site.
@Ghostler Zoom in on Betsy taking a bath and catching up on zzzs. 😺
I watched that yesterday. Not really a gamer here, but it resonated, because the same goes for certain movie reviews. People have to be able to get out of their heads sometimes, and it's frustrating to see various forms of recreation judged by whether or not they provide a particular commentary on the state of the world.
Yeah, it feels like everything is being critiqued to death. Maybe we should steer clear of reviews for a while. 😄
I'd tune in, for sure. She could discuss movies, too.
That was a very interesting podcast, I thought, especially when they were talking about modding, the statistical breakdown of men and women who play different types of video games, and how accommodating games should be in terms of demographics. Also, how all of this relates to the culture at large - the James Damore memo, for instance.
"Aw, man. Tim's about to zoom in again, I can just feel it. Gotta clean up for my close-up!" ~ Betsy
Betsy definitely needs her own beanie.
Oh, the beanie's talking now? Wouldn't you miss Tim?
So he's currently a dude named Huan? Are you making this up as you go, or is it well-known background info around here? 😁
Now that you mention it, I seem to remember some references in the YT comments.
So what you're saying is you're a troublemaker. 😝
I don't know jack about MTG, but this card gives me the heebie jeebies. It's pretty much the picture-form realization of Stephen King's short story I Am the Doorway.
Tim's latest has me wondering: 1. Is there another word in the English language that's as aggravating to pronounce as "rural"? 2. Was that a plunger in the background? 😆
@Somi Cool. For a minute there, I thought you'd invented a word!
After hearing the pronunciation of "syzygy," I still say "rural" tops the list when it comes to unwieldy terms. 😁
That one's actually familiar to me, because I took a medical terminology class years ago. Ear/nose/throat specialist, right? A lot of syllables, yes, but "rural" is just too awkward. I can't think of anything that compares, lol.
@Dr.Wol "Krocsyldiphic" should be filed under fake news, I guess? Haven't seen South Park in ages! Is that Kyle in the clip? Ugh, spelling bees. Always dreaded those.
It does look great! I didn't see him hang a lampshade on the camera, though.
Oh, it's code! I'm learning a whole new language for this discord. So when "lampshading," he's just being upfront about the camera to ward off any naysayers?
And thanks, I'll cross those blue-link bridges when I get to 'em. 😁
Okay, gotcha. Wish I could help you out with the camera info. Hopefully you'll find an answer soon!
However, I'll listen to Tim "nerd out" about the series whenever he wants to, lol.
I saw six of them, and that was enough. 😁
If I had to pick a trilogy to rewatch, I'd go with the original.
Is there supposed to be an actual 10-12 trilogy at some point?
I'm growing weary of prequels, sequels and remakes. 😆
@Dr.Wol When I clicked on the video, there were "no views," and it had been published for around half an hour.
Is he uploading today's stream to his second channel? I didn't finish watching.
Did you guys have a chance to watch his stream from Wednesday? I only caught about 40 minutes of it.
He's live now? I haven't even finished his "YouTube is whack" video yet.
How does someone wind up here if he/she hasn't been exposed to Tim's content?
What's the deal with the last two livestreams? Is YT removing them immediately after they end?
Before I cut out the soft drinks, Dr. Pepper was my jam.
@LotheronPrime Not a fan of the cat, huh? I don't buy it.
I missed the first 30 minutes and the last 10. What did he say about the cat?
As far as I know, he hasn't uploaded the past two. Did he mention anything about YT channels being shut down in that last one?
"Only industrial - not fruit - fructose intake was associated with declining liver function."
"Still, it's worth cutting back on fructose. But don't do it by giving up fruit. Fruit is good for you and is a minor source of fructose for most people. The big sources are refined sugar and high-fructose corn syrup."
The Walmart here is really pushing Scan & Go. I was pressed four times yesterday to leave my checkout line. 😒
I get how the system might be convenient for people without much produce in their carts who don't have an aversion to cameras. Those I've talked to prefer having a cashier, though.
Yep, she did a review of Far Cry 5. It's on Subverse.
Nothing creeps me out like insects in multitudes.
@WHAT Or reading it could just make that person a non-biblicist. 🤷
9 times out of 10, when I have to pause a Tim vid, I catch him mid-blink.
So because a perfect environment is out of reach, we shouldn't make any improvements?
Aren't batteries recyclable? What's an ICE car?
Yes, the on/off thing is epigenetics, I believe. "Genes load the gun, but environment pulls the trigger."
@Grenade123 YAY for reducing consumption. Animal agriculture is also a big contributor to GHGs, arguably having more of an impact than transportation. Fortunately, diet is a matter of choice for most of us, and we have the option to lower our intake of animal products.
I recently discovered the snipping tool. #scissorhappy
@Arch-Fiend Agreed. It's strange to find myself empathizing with Johnny Lawrence.
Does it have to do with the word "kids" in the description?
The nursery rhyme videos are gone now on my end.
Took four years of Spanish, but I've forgotten a lot.
I'm thinking that's a video he's working on.
@RyeNorth Did you see the ContraPoints video on JBP? I liked it. Entertaining/informative.
"You can lose weight in lots of ways that aren't very good for you. Smoking cigarettes ... chemotherapy ... getting profoundly depressed ... I don't recommend those approaches."
Ornish is a doctor, not that doctors are typically educated in the field of nutrition. I'm unable to post here the very brief abstract from the study cited in the video, but if you look up "New England Journal of Medicine Steven Smith," there should be a link. Apparently, you have to subscribe to obtain access to the entire study.
He did mention the study, but yeah, I wish whoever made the video had included a link.
This kind of lines up with what Dr. McDougall says at the end.
It's sad that Twitter has become a place where you have to walk on eggshells to avoid getting blocked.
Once someone blocks you, the conversation ends. Where do you go from there?
Well, yeah, in the case of harassment I'd eventually mute or block.
@Arch-Fiend Going back to the subject of white rice, I'm not sure where the author got that bit of info. The studies listed in the reference section merely establish a relationship between elevated intake and the development of diabetes in Asian women.
This video, about halfway through, points to a decline in rice consumption among the Chinese from 1989 to 2011.
The studies discussed at around the 3:20 and 4:15 marks show how protein amplifies the insulin spike from high-glycemic foods.
So the diabetes epidemic could be more about what's eaten alongside the rice than the rice itself.
I haven't heard anything about MSG lately. What are they saying now?
Might be the type of protein, I don't know.
Oh, I was looking at your previous comment comparing Asia to other cultures.
So what do you think has caused the high rates of diabetes there, when they had some of the lowest rates twenty years ago?
As in, they're eating more rice? Are you agreeing with that author?
You don't think the rise of fast food has anything to do with it?
What about channels that focus on health issues? They may not be sponsored by CBD companies, but surely there is discussion of that product. I just watched a video of someone talking about her Ayahuasca experience.
From May 2017. The writer gives an account of what it was like to apply for a job with The Knife.
I like The Knife's approach to news. What stood out to me from the Paste article was the evasiveness with someone inquiring about a job. I found that odd.
@LEER Yeah, I don't know how people regularly sit through entire videos. I've also wondered how many take Jones seriously, and how many are simply entertained by his antics.
"Dude, the pollen in my nose is not bacteria. Leave it alone. It's nothing." ~ Tim talking to his immune system
So CBD is banned, but YouTube only cracks down on creators who post videos that include ads for CBD companies? No concerns about those, some with tons of subscribers, who discuss at length the benefits of CBD?
@zero_consequences Pretty sure he was referring to the leader of a white nationalist group, the Republic of Florida.
I think this is the video Tim was talking about today. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UV6cA5z9NDE
@zero_consequences Did he even mention the Tommy vid during yesterday's talk with Bunty? As far as I know, Tim has received two strikes from YT, and only the first - from back in February - has been removed.
I can see why people would assume that, considering the latest strike was for the TR vid. But when he brought up the strike yesterday, he also said it had been removed, which leads me to believe he was referring to the one from February.
@LotheronPrime Yes, from what I gather, he's down to one strike now.
The first guideline strike is discussed here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fldo-3sJ8AA
Perhaps the Popeyes review guy is guilty of appropriating Korean culture by doing a mukbang. 🙃
That's a bit steep for a nostalgia fix.
"Only 1 left in stock." It's been saying that for months.
@0x90909090 Nearly 100 bucks, and it requires an adapter that isn't included? Either way, I'd need to see a substantial price drop before buying it. At this point, even a used one will have to wait - my Ninja blender bit the dust recently, and taking care of that situation comes first. 😁
You can always count on YT subtitles to take a serious conversation in an altogether different direction. 😛
Duck rights weren't something on my radar until I found out about foie gras.
I'd never heard of this before yesterday's podcast.
That's the punching game I grew up with.
@zero_consequences Nah, Sparta's just clued-in to the fakery. 😸
So according to that pyramid, Rodney King was supporting white supremacy? 🙄
A clip from Terry Gilliam's Brazil, a satire inspired by 1984.
"Scanned from the cover of a pamphlet published by the SPA in 1915." https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Socialist_Party_of_America_-_Logo.gif
@zero_consequences They look like ice cream cones, lol. Maybe torches?
Democratic socialism is different from social democracy, right? From my understanding, one is about replacing capitalism, and the other is about reforming it.
I've just wondered if people are mixing up their terms when they say "democratic socialism."
Are they against private property, for instance?
Seems to me using these terms interchangeably is a bad idea.
@Timcast Enjoyed hearing your thoughts on the Ocasio-Cortez platform.
"If you didn't vote, you let Trump win." Thank you. People have been spouting that kind of thing since long before the election, and it still drives me bonkers. Apparently, voting for a third party or staying at home isn't a valid choice. I'm afraid we'll never hear the end of it.
Quick bit about MLK, Bernie and identity politics around 4:20.
I guess something's up with my computer, b/c I still don't see the rules.
"No right, no wrong, no rules for meeeee. I'm freeeee." 😛
Okay, I see them. Just had to scroll up some. There are only a bazillion channels now.
@I AM ERROR Bernie's a social democrat, interested in making changes to the current system rather than abolishing it. Folks need to clarify what they mean when they say "democratic socialism."
I'm confused about the DSA. Isn't Kyle Kulinski part of that group?
I watched his political compass test vid and didn't get the impression he's for giving capitalism the boot.
@zutt Thanks for posting those videos. I haven't been keeping up with his stuff lately. I like what he says in the Ben Shapiro vid about virtue signaling. Also interesting: that part about cutting out the
"unnecessary, for-profit, price-gouging middleman" to save $17 trillion in healthcare costs.
What the USDA will and won't allow egg companies to say about their product.
Laws can become oppressive. If Jesus had been a stickler for the law, he wouldn't have healed on the Sabbath.
Glad I missed out on those 16 notifications.
Pretty sure YT subtitles got it right this time and Tim actually said that. 😝
Props to Dingo for making an appearance today on the second channel. 🐶
Don't know if the guy was "reaching" or not, but once he's on the ground, why does the cop keep shooting?
I thought tasers rendered people immobile? How is that a threat?
Looked to me like the guy had his hands up until the cop said "I'm going to tase you" and started moving in.
De-escalation needs to be a thing. I didn't sense any from that cop.
Anyway, if a suspect's on the ground not moving, I see zero reason to swap taser for gun and start shooting. Also, I heard gunshots before the tasered man even hit the ground.
Did anyone see that Manhattan panel video?
I hope Tim and Carlos were able to smooth things over at the bar, b/c that immigration discussion at the end was getting kinda tense. <:timcat:463067464016855040>
Well, Tim is really churning out the videos now, lol. Hard to keep up with him alone.
Yeah, Channel 2 is great. I've been watching some of those vids on 1.5 speed. Hope that doesn't negatively affect his view count.
Oh, Ant-Man and the Wasp. Thought that said "A & W" for a minute. As in root beer. 😛
I still haven't seen Ready Player One. Need to add to my Netflix queue.
Assuming it's out, Lotheron. Went to my regular, not saved, section.
The green revolution bit is a joke. He explains within the first few minutes of yesterday's 6 p.m. video.
This reminds me of that podcast with Coleman Hughes, when they're talking about white people who are scared to call someone "black."
According to Wikipedia, he's "the patron saint of sailors and abdominal pain." What a combo.
@zero_consequences Could be. That sounds funny. I don't think I've ever seen a whole episode of Family Guy.
No evidence to the contrary that I know of. What makes you ask?
Oh, really? Yeah, I took it a long time ago, too.
Always thought the types were fairly static, though.
That would be cool. Does it have a lot of questions?
