Like, if you took your high-end renderer and animations systems and stuff
And used it to do less
Things would actually look worse than if you had a shittier renderer or animation system
I think smaller studios usually don't get it either, though
They either want to make Uncharted or whatever their favorite NES game was
Most of the small handful of small studios I _do_ know that are trying something else tend to be full of expat veterans from some large studio
And that sometimes has associated baggage
i go out of my way to search for small, unknown studios with a decent game.
Well Helleau Grenade 😛
Factorio is a great game, with good gameplay, that didn't focus on graphics
I _am_ a big fan of Dark Souls
It's never clear what exactly they spend money on
Dark Souls sucks ass 😛
ah, so you are a masochist
More DkS for me!
"let me roll around, record the boss's steps, and find that one built in flaw in his rotation" - The game
isn't that like old games like mega man?
Dirty secret: that's every enemy in video games
thats where you're wrong kiddo
😛
naw but Dark souls really has that level of "at second 17 until second 20 of the boss's 30 second rotation is the only point where you can attack without getting hit"
sounds like you haven't played dark souls
bosses are not that scripted
and any other move kills you instantly
I have, and they really are 😛
i'm hyperbolic ofc, but its the gist of it
that is grossly hyperbolic
its not that hyperbolic
and at various health levels they change fight rotations/mechanics
a better complaint you could make is getting 4 phantoms to latch onto the bosses face while you smack it in the ass for 2 minutes before it's dead
dark souls isn't perfect
Yeah, they're not that scripted
You have to learn its weaknesses relative to your build
but those criticism are just ignorant
And how you deal with a particular move on the boss can vary a lot on your gear and spec
For some, it's better to dodge
For others, it's better to take the damage
hell, even DS2 had the thing where with the right setup you could just almost oneshot most bosses with some spells
For still others, maybe you dodge in a particular direction
You also only have to repeat when you're doing badly
but I have yet to see any other game do bosses consistently as good as dark souls
