So just some thoughts I had while watching Tim's video today: it seems to me that this is a major failing of the (two-)party system. You cease voting based on shared ideals and stated principles or policies, and end up voting for A primarily because you don't like B - whether the image of B is accurate or the distorted and demonised characterisation.

And I think that's why you see loads more voter fatigue/apathy and political disconnect; people knowing that the candidates they believe will do the best job will *never* get in because another candidate has more funding, or has pandered to the wider audience, or has broken down their ideas into more appetizing soundbytes or buzzwords - and so what's the point.

And then you have the problem of de-radicalization. How do you get the hyperpartisans and ideological zealots to step down and come to public forums to discuss their ideas and be able to compromise, instead of harassing or attacking their opponents.

Flak?! is that you?!

2018-10-23 20:54:02 UTC

@Inquisition yep 2 party system is a scam

2018-10-23 20:54:10 UTC

It is pretty fucked up

2018-10-23 20:54:17 UTC

@Inquisition YOU cant just come in here and spread that kind of fake news!

2018-10-23 20:54:24 UTC

kappa

2018-10-23 20:54:50 UTC

As a person living in a country with MANY parties

Your 2 party system isn't much worse

2018-10-23 20:55:00 UTC

I am trying to deradicalize people, but, they keep doubling down....

2018-10-23 20:55:07 UTC

In my country, a group with 15% of the votes gets to push their ideology on people too 😉

2018-10-23 20:55:25 UTC

What's particularly fucked up is that the entire reason we've got these two drastically different parties is because of a *serious* modern miscommunication on founding principles.

2018-10-23 20:55:26 UTC

Cause they bitch

2018-10-23 20:55:35 UTC

@Dr.Wol I live in Canada, so we're sort of in the same boat; we have like 3 and a half major parties.

2018-10-23 20:55:52 UTC

current dutch ruling government is 4 parties

2018-10-23 20:56:01 UTC

Yay, coalition.

2018-10-23 20:56:12 UTC

oh gawd how does anything get done @Dr.Wol

2018-10-23 20:56:19 UTC

well

2018-10-23 20:56:20 UTC

it doesn't

2018-10-23 20:56:23 UTC

it does actually

2018-10-23 20:56:24 UTC

let me explain

2018-10-23 20:56:25 UTC

that's the good part

2018-10-23 20:56:28 UTC

The "Libertarian" party

2018-10-23 20:56:32 UTC

Sold out EVERYTHING they campaigned for

2018-10-23 20:56:35 UTC

Literally 😄

2018-10-23 20:56:39 UTC

lol

2018-10-23 20:56:42 UTC

😩

2018-10-23 20:56:43 UTC

The parties create coalitions

2018-10-23 20:56:48 UTC

Of course they did.

2018-10-23 20:56:51 UTC

Basically, you wind up with 4 parties

2018-10-23 20:56:58 UTC

three of which band together to form a majority

2018-10-23 20:57:01 UTC

to bully the third.

2018-10-23 20:57:12 UTC

they campaigned for a referendum right for the people

And now they are the biggest advocates for abolishing it, for this reason
"It gives people the sense they're not being listened to"

Because they actively ignore the referendums people call for

2018-10-23 20:57:19 UTC

You can almost set a watch - If Ukip becomes a serious contender in an election

2018-10-23 20:57:30 UTC

no joke

2018-10-23 20:57:39 UTC

Lol, did you guys see Glen Beck on the Rubin Report yet?

2018-10-23 20:57:42 UTC

You're going to have a coalition of Labour and Tories against them.

2018-10-23 20:57:47 UTC

It's going to be ridiculous.

2018-10-23 20:57:49 UTC

same party wants the state paid media to check independent media for "fake news" 😄

2018-10-23 20:57:55 UTC

lol

2018-10-23 20:58:11 UTC

Yeah lets have the people with a conflict of interest be the judges on what is fake news and what isn't
